I was told by a diesel mechanic to always leave the exhaust brake on. It is supposed to help keep the vgt turbo system working properly. And always use it to quickly warm it up in cold temps. Try it!
Just a little FYI always run your exhaust break no matter what brand truck you drive. Due to soot build up in the veins, even if your just running empty run it.
That's a nice highway trailer. Keep it on smooth roads and you won't have any problems. Aluminum trailers don't like heavy loads on rough terrain. I repaired heavy use aluminum trailers for years. When used properly they are very nice.
Couldn't agree more if you want to take care of an aluminum trailer baby it and give it a nice suspension upgrade it'll go a long way
Using the exhaust brake any time you drive the truck whether towing or not will extend the life of the turbo. It keeps the turbo vanes moving, and helps prevent soot from building up and jamming them up which eventually burns out the actuator.
Seafoam works wonders at keeping them clean as well
@@freedomisntfree_44 You would have to remove the turbo to clean the exhaust side which would be more effort than it's worth. Running the exhaust brake is a simple way to prevent soot buildup.
@@Turndog375 all you gotta do is put seafoam in the tank… after a tank you can literally hear the turbo better and can tell it just responds better
@@freedomisntfree_44 that won’t do anything for the exhaust side of the turbo. That might clean the injectors a bit, but it’s not gonna do shit to the exhaust side.
I’m not a mechanic but could explain why GMs 3.0 has the exhaust brake built into the system. 🤷♂️
The new trailer ties in nicely with the color of the Ram so it's a sweet lookin' combo
Run the exhaust brake all the time. Even though some people have concerns, it does little to no harm to the engine, but it'll save your turbo and extended the life of your brakes massively. It's also easier to drive the truck, basically 1 foot driving much of the time, like an EV.
How does it save the turbo?
@@jesustrevizo3148 The turbo has a sliding nozzle ring that controls the flow of exhaust gasses. This nozzle not only works to reduce turbo lag, it also works as the exhaust brake by restricting exhaust gasses, creating the back pressure that's used to slow the engine down. If you don't use the exhaust brake regularly, the little parts of this nozzle begin to carbon up, which can jam the nozzle. This can destroy the turbo, or parts of the turbo. So, it should just be run all the time.
@@AkioWasRight Is auto exhaust better than full exhaust for driving on exhaust brake all the time when not towing?
I need all of this content. We're planning to buy a 2500 Cummins at the end of the year for towing our camper so I love seeing this.
Another good one Andre. I lived in Littlefun until 2016, my 6.7 took about 35k to really break in. 17mpg until then, 18.7 after 35k. Remember, CO diesel is trash, low cetane because of altitude and foamy as hell in winter because of blend. You will see a bump of 1mpg in summer when they switch over. Other than that, thanks for this, traffic still stupid as ever, looks like that extra lane was completely worthless! Also, change that tranny fluid regularly and get a brace, 68s are known to crack under load. Laughed at 60mph over Ike, we used to call it the Alpine Autobahn
I purchased a 2021 ram 2500,night edition, 6.4 Hemi because of your truck testing. We pull a 28 ft. Travel trailer with it and love it. You have helped many buyers with your information. Keep up the great job. 👍
Tow points and tie-down points are very different things.
What diesel additives do you use? If you're not, you should be. You have a CP4 fuel pump. You really need an additive. Our diesel in America lacks lubricant required for a CP4. You can use Power Service Diesel Kleen which is made for Cummins engines. I now use Opti-Lube XPD in my diesel. Just some friendly advice from one diesel operator to another.
Diesel is $5.08 in New Hampshire right now and climbing.
But if you think $18,000 for an aluminum trailer is a good price, then expensive diesel is not a big deal as well, LOL
still better to drive a 3.0 diesel then a 5.3 v8
@@AmazonWebService98 I had nothing but issues with that 3.0 duracrap. I got more than 30 mpg for the first week. After that, I could barely get 22 mpg.
Aluma trailers are junk rip offs.
I love the exhaust break on my 2011 RAM 2500 6.7L. I also love that when the cruise is set, the exhaust break automatically kicks on when needed.
Getting over 20mpg in my 5.9 consistently. Averaging about 16mpg pulling a 19 foot camper with a atv in the back of the truck. Can't go wrong with cummins. Best investment working from Arkansas to Utah I've made.
I use to live & work in Rifle CO until O Bummer goofed up the oil & gas industry now in Texas.
congrats on 1,000,000 subs TFL Truck!
That premium $18K, 24ft Aluma trailer seems just like something Roman would spring for.
Right now I'd love to be paying $4.55 per gallon. Here in Indio, rip off California, $6.10 to $6.45 is the norm.
Did i miss it? Is the trailer extrusion built?
I have an 07 with a 5.9 and it would do it easy. I hope this one would...
Always like Andre's content. That truck is insane, 800 odd lb ft of torque!!! Incredible machine.
I towed a SXS from Arizona to Oregon with my 2018 Ram 2500, and got 19mpg.
I own a 2022 Ram 2500 Big horn . With the 6.4L hemi /4:10 gears. I absolutely love it so far . I pull goosenecks alot. Actually just pulled 15k this past weekend. Definitely knew it was back there but did great. I normally get 10.5 mpg pulling weights around 10k . Normally get a out 14mpg back and forth to work. That's all on 35" tires.
That's really good mileage considering I get 13.5 mpg with my 2011 Sierra 1500
I recommend to TFL along time ago aluminum with torflex axles. You will never go back to steel with leafs. Those trailers pull like dream after steel…
I just picked up my new ‘22 Chevy 2500 Duramax yesterday. On the 500 mile drive back, I was actually at about 20mpg, which was really nice. These new diesels really get some good mileage.
Thats pretty good mpgs!
My father towed a show car with his Ram 5.9 Cummins & he averaged 19 mpg whether the trailer was attacked or not - very consistent. The down side of that was that the 5.9 had a lot less HP & torque vs. the 6.7. Very impressive👍
I've got an external tank on my f250. Empty, I can go around 1900 miles from full to e lol. But that's all highway
How many fuel tanks do you have?
@@thomassprenkle2967 sounds like one in the bed
When i put a nuclear reactor in my Rivian i'll be able to drive 1 million miles on a pound of u235.

@@mistermister2085 sweet 😎
something you missed here guys... ALWAYS use the exhaust brake, ALWAYS!!!!! Even when unloaded and especially if your emmisions are still installed. The variable vains in there WILL freeze up with the added carbon. PLus the break is always appreciated.
I always have the exhaust break on auto to save the truck breaks. If I have a heavy load/mountain pass I will run a full exhaust break. If you have the tool why not use it and it sounds great.
I also run mine on all the time, not only to save my brakes but it also uses the full range of the vgt which helps keep the soot buildup cleaner off.
If you read the owners manual (I just got a Ram 2500 HD) it does not require a break-in if it's unladen. However, it recommends that you don't tow for 500 miles, then you can tow for another 500 miles at reduced speed of 50mph. Then you can tow at HWY speeds at 1000 miles.
That's for the axles, not the engine. No break-in period for the Cummins.
Hey Congrats > Fellas , you've made it to 1 MILLION Subs!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I am confused. TFL had a vehicle trailer already. Did you sell it? Did something happen to it? Is this just an upgrade for lighter towing efficiency? Arrow dynamics? What is the price difference between this 18K trailer and the other one you had? Questions have been raised. lol
Absolutely love the trailer Thank you for this video I'm checking this place out Thank you and have a blessed day everyone
My deleted and straight piped 07.5 2500 6.7 will do like 600 miles on the highway at 85mph. It’s amazing that something that old still gets significantly better gas mileage than the model that is 15 years newer due to “environmental regulations”.
There was no such thing as def 15 yrs ago on diseal trucks 😂
@@FATDADDYSACK oh, dunce..... Def was required for the 2010/11 model years. 🤦♂️
@@FATDADDYSACK no but there was dpf and that is probably what they deleted
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk not for Rams it wasn’t, DEF wasn’t used on them until 2013.
@@FATDADDYSACK there was still an EGR and DPF which is what he’s talking about. The pre-DEF Rams got worse fuel mileage than newer DEF equipped trucks because they used more EGR duty cycle and had to regen more often to clean out the DPF.
I use my exhaust brake 100% of the time. It's nice to not have to use my brakes as much.
love the trailer and the lights on the bed but they should be flush incase of loading a track vehicle, I think tracks would break them...but love the trailer.
Showing LOVE for my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CHANNELS PERIOD Thank You for another great video once again gentlemen. Have a Blessed day y'all
My 2001 7.3 F-250 will go 400+ miles towing my gooseneck horse trailer. It has a 38 gallon tank. Gets around 12-13 mpg towing on highway.
It’s nice to see someone being honest about mpg while towing. Too often seeing people saying, “oh, I get 25mpg towing my 40 foot gooseneck toy hauler in the mountains all the time.” Yeah sure dude. Maybe downhill. Hahaha
7.3s are a beast
@@ceementality well actually fords best engine for them...

You gotta love diesel, Andre 💰🤑
Aluma - made in Iowa!
Very nice trailer. Very lightweight! Cant stand the lights on the floor though, they are just waiting to get smashed.
2001 Ram Cummins, loaded up, slide in Lance 8.6 and loaded 6x12 trailer, 400 miles...done
I wonder what the overall cost of owning the cummins vs the hemi is when you factor in mpg savings on cummins vs cost of the powerplant (10k extra over hemi) , added cost of diesel, and added maintenance costs? How many miles/years would you have to drive it before you realized a cost benefit? I’m about to buy a new 2500 in California and can’t decide between the two. I don’t tow heavy a lot so main interest in cummins is mpg, power and engine longevity
There is no savings it's only more expensive. The overall long-term cost of the engine itself the much more expensive maintenance much more expensive repairs just isn't worth it these days for diesels unless you absolutely need it to tow super heavy. Having a check engine light for some stupid diesel exhaust filter sensor every couple thousand miles just isn't worth it.
A lot of fleets in my neck of the woods are buying gassers again. Diesel isn’t worth the hassle anymore
Briar, as a trucker I can tell you that diesels are good for only one thing: Towing. Towing heavy and towing all the time, and I do mean 24-7. Roman's 2500 is a toy. Watch the videos. It's a toy and he's paying for it at the pump. Andrei did not include DEF fluid in the video. Perhaps it didn't need it. If something goes wrong with the DEF system, the computer will shut your truck down, not just limp mode, requiring it to be towed to the dealer for repairs, yes, the dealer only. This will be mega expensive. Yes, it is a trap. All diesels require this under EPA regulations that were started by YOUR state, California. Maintenance costs are at least double and are not DIY. Example: the cummins diesel requires 3 gallons of oil at every oil change. Thus, unless you're able to use the diesel's capacities on a regular basis, stick with gas. You can't drive enough miles to realize a cost benefit. Sorry.
No more exhaust lights lately 60k on a 17 gmc duramax 20k on a Ford f250 never had a light. They pretty much have the exhaust systems figured out these days. Though I still hate them and would delete if the epa wasn't such a pain in the ass
I am a fan of the diesel my 2018 is my daily driver 53k on the clock never had an issue mine came with a 7 yr 100k bumper to bumper warranty and I only paid 54000 new back in 2018. I do tow a 33ft toy hauler when loaded weights about 12k with over 1300 lbs of tongue weight and my truck pulls it like it wasn’t even there really smooth power and never seems to work hard under the load.
Always enjoy your videos Andre, seems like you’re always the lucky one who gets sent on road trips lol.
$6.50 here in California
4.55 for fuel it's 5.60 in western Pennsylvania
4.55 per gallon is so cheap, in california it's 6.69 about stores.
Think yourself lucky in California, in the UK we are paying about $8.82 for 1 US gallon of diesel (which is 3.785 litres).
4.85 for diesel here in Utah.
$4.55 /gal? when was this filmed? we are well over $5 in PA today
4.59 at Costco this morning, Cincinnati area.
What RPM'S were you averaging on the highway? Just purchases a 2022 Ram 3500 with the Aisin and averaging 1,900 RPM'S unload with no wind, I am getting 17MPG. With a good head wind I average 14.9MPG
$4.55/gallon, boy would I like to see that. It's $6.09/gallon for diesel here in SoCal.
Solid real world test and result IMO
Love me some Cummins 💪
I would like to see a update to a 8 speed transmission for the diesel like they did for the gas engine
What is meant by "excrusion" built?
I would use the exhaust brake in Auto especially since you are going over the Ike
Yes I like the trailer
That's a really cool trailer.
A bit steep on the price tag but that's just the way things go these days.
Of coarse the Truck is GORGEOUS. Every new truck is 🥰
Love the Ram 2500 series
Based on my personal experience with the Ram 2500 Cummins trucks, 2014 Limited and 2018 Laramie Longhorn, your MPG will increase as you accumulate more miles on your truck.
Must be nice for someone to give you an $18,000 trailer
I remember when it was $4.55 for diesel in CA. Seems like a lifetime ago.
awesome truck!
Great looking trailer!
Chit, $2 more here in California. I’ll gladly pay that price shown.
Diesel is $4.99 a gallon at my station in WV.
You guys always seem to make videos with interesting topics. 👍🏻
So you aren’t towing 400 miles with a trailer, but rather 190? A tiny bit misleading on the subject line
Of course it will make it that's a short distance I've choked Bookoo miles with my Ram 2500 like 300,000
Not bad at all!
I don't know that's scary. Alot to expect from a ram
Looks like I need to upgrade from my 1500!
Nice looking trailer, but $18K for a flatbed trailer that I wouldn't feel comfortable overloading by a single ounce? Yikes. @ 9:56 already looks like the trailer is flexing slightly over the axles with just a light pickup truck on it.
I can get that towing our airstream. We really like our Ram 6.7l Cummins. How big is the fuel tank in that truck? Mine is around 32.
I've had to get a hotel many times in Rifle as part of my 11 hour limit.
Nice looking truck
Spare tires are usually a optional item with utility type trailers…
Diesel trucks 🤩
What tire pressures were you running on the trip?
Does that truck have a lift or levelling kit? Or is it running at the regular factory height?
Great video
My 2018 Ram Cummins always shows 1 mile per gallon better than you actually get.
How often do you have to add DEF?
I like the trailer but, a 10-15% weight savings isn’t that important to me with a dually.
Also I’d like to see the load jacks as part of the ramps instead of a little peg leg. I’ve never seen that before.
Just paid $6.05/gallon near Sacramento Ca
I understand why your trailer is different(you said it like 5 times) but you didn't say why it's better.
I have the same engine in a 2019 RAM. Bought it brand new. My manual CLEARLY STATED that no towing was to be done until 500 miles/800 km.
Make sure u bring it to the dealer and get the new fuel pump…on the recall…all,2019-2020…..the 21 22already have the new pump
Thank you for the info. RAM claims the new fuel pump is not available for the recall repair. They said it is still being "designed" and yet to be built. I find that odd because I've heard from several sources that the new pump is on the 21 and 22 RAMS Cummins trucks.
Windshield wiper recall too. Mine has been fixed.
@@46fd04 sounds like a straight up lie given the reporting on the recall. Who knows
The axles, differentials need the break-in. No break-in required for the Cummins
10:18 Please don't use the tow hooks as tie-downs. Always tie down to something unsprung.
Don’t forget the blue pisswater!
It isn't broken in until 100,000 if you guys keep the truck long enough your mileage will continue to get better until you get to 100,000 miles
It has been my experience the the cummis get its best fuel mileage after 60,0000km/37,500miles
I can’t seem to get my daily commute average mpgs above 16.6 on my 2500 Cummins.
Letting you drive all that way home with No spare tire says a lot about the manufacturer and the dealer.
And for 18k, I better get 2.
Wow inflation is a beotch, 2 years ago I bought a 24ft sundowner with all same features a better warranty, matching spare, 8ft ramps, spread axle and color matched fenders for $10k brand new.
Are you guys able to put conversion into km on the screen when you say the miles. It would help us Canadian who love watching your channels
My GMC Owner's Manual says unless you're towing above 75% of max tow rating, you don't need "Tow Haul Mode". Is RAM different? A 2050# empty trailer is certainly below 75% of max on that truck. Why would you use "Tow Haul Mode"? Is it recommended or you just like pushing buttons? Would fuel economy be better in Normal mode? It is in my GMC.
That was my thought exactly. I'd never hit tow/haul mode for that light, empty trailer. May have netted another mpg.
the real question is can you afford a single tank of diesel?
🤣🤣🤣 if you bought that truck you better be able to afford it 😂
It must suck being that poor.
@@jermainec2462 diesel wasn't 6 dollars a gallon when they bought it! 🤦♂️
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk lol if they bought it in the last couple weeks it was 🤣🤣... Like what made you think gas wasn't going to go back up you never know in the world we live in today gas go up and down history repeats itself like come on. 😂
I mean... He just got a $18k trailer.... I think they can afford it 🤣
That ram empty got 20 mpg and my 22’ taco gets 16 mpg. Something wrong with that!
Nice trailer. But 18k!? Ouch
You need a couple of dune buggy whips to keep people from running into the back of the trailer(while parked and on the road).
Ask me how I know.😥
On the good side the whips make backing easier.👍
The downfall about the Dodge Rams are that they expect you to change out the glow plugs and the spark plugs and stuff about every 30,000 miles in order to keep your warranty. Maintenance kills in that lineup for some reason with the ram
Cummins, does not have glow plugs. Has a grid heater. I have a 22 3500 srw
Lol lol real diesels don't have plugs 🤣 😂...
