    As a Vancouver-born and bred human, I cannot get over these numbers! I'm 40 now, but all of us in our early 20s were able to modest apartments for under $800. It's wild to hear that people (including us!) are routinely spending $2K+ on 1 bedroom apartments.

    • @littleripper312

    I've lived in Victoria, BC for almost 20 years. I remember when the two bedroom apartment was $800 utilities included with a sheltered parking lot... gone are those days 😢
    I now live in another two bedroom apartment.hw/heat included with a parking space at $1800 which has actually the lower end of the rental spectrum in Victoria

    I guess one important question that you're missing out on is 'how long have you lived in that place?'
    Vancouver has rent control which can be a game changer. My roommate (the primary lease holder) pays 1480$ rent for his 2 bdrm place in KITSILANO because he's had rent control for 9 years. I pay 1000$ as a subletter/roommate so he only pays 580ish with utilities.

    What is interesting, there are long term tenants in the lower mainland that pay less than a 1000 for the same suite in a complex that costs 2500 because of rent control. My friend in White Rock pays 800 a month and his neighbour has the same size unit and pays 1600.

I did the smart thing and saved for two years so i could buy my condo in Richmond. now 20 years later I'm still paying 800 a month for mortgage and condo fees combined heat hot water and electric included 905 sq ft . People stop renting and buy anything you can afford even if it's a smaller place. rent money is spent money you never get it back

These cars can be afforded by people who have stuck in their careers for a while and now earn $100k+ (aside from the bugatti, that's crazy money you need to have) but there are also tons of business owners here in Canada who do very well for themselves. I just signed a pet-friendly studio/ jr 1bed, in Coquitlam near Lougheed station for 2000, not furnished, and I´m starting to think I got scammed 😐😐😐

      Why does it seem like anyone can just decide to come here, yet Canadians moving abroad seems impossible?

    • @herb6000
      @herb6000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SeethingSimp we definetely didnt just decide to come. my father works at an aero engine maintance company here in germany, and they have a place in vancouver as well, ( in china, serbia, and hongkong too ), he is a certified engine inspector, everyone needs someone like him. so we are very lucky. it really isnt easy. we decided to move out of germany because my father has no trust in where the country is heading

    • @SeethingSimp
      @SeethingSimp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@herb6000 Ah, that makes sense. If you're worried over where a country is headed, I really don't think Canada is a good choice (I live here).

      @@SeethingSimp Canada's one of the most stable countries in the world. All things considered. We have so many amenities here, and will not worry about resource supply as other countries will do, once climate change really kicks off.

    Nice video Adam. You should do a video of people who rented this year, the rent has skyrocketed. 2100 apartment must be gone for 2500ish... would love to see that.. otherwise I would feel I am the only one who is paying so much for similar apartment than others in this video :D
