Fortunately or unfortunately , however one wants to view it, trump is nothing but the puppet and it has been obvious since the escalator descent. The real danger is the billionaire tech bros and the Putin sympathizers. The old washed out billionaires who have been able to pull strings their whole life and now see more beige people entering the club, and the media moguls. After Sacks hosted a fundraising for Trump, Musk coming out in a big way to support him, and then JD Vance getting selected for VP, my suspicion was Thiel was playing the king maker behind the scenes. All of a sudden he was on Rogan too. This discussion kind of confirms it. Thanks for providing the details on the history and motives!!

What I find fascinating is that people who have availed of the graciousness of the US like naturalization and education and opportunity don’t want to extend the same to others. Are we not supposed to lift people up and bring them along with us, if we have been fortunate enough to be doing well. Diversity that Thiel is not fond of, is the very reason why he is in the US. Not really. Researchers have been trying to warn people for years, but "billionaires are bad, actually" is not a money-making story in the US. Or elsewhere, for that matter.
The problem with this analysis is that it doesn't go back far enough. When it comes to considering how both Peter Thiel (56) and his old business partner Elon Musk (53) are both increasingly anti-democratic and hostile to social justice concerns, you need to go back to their younger years. Thiel was born in West Germany in 1967. His father was a chemical engineer who moved the family between Germany, South Africa, Namibia, and finally the U.S.. Musk grew up in South Africa and was educated there until he was 18. It is simply impossible to say that both Thiel and Musk were not shaped by their exposure to pro-Apartheid ideas during their time on the African continent. Musk's father was actually an anti-Apartheid politician, the father-son relationship was acrimonious and supposedly abusive. Elon himself was said to be quite nasty, as well. While this is all psycho-history, it is hard to separate a person's upbringing from the way they actually turn out. Like a lot of whites that lived through Africa's colonial era, these guys certainly see things nostalgically. Like many such people, the experience probably left them with negative feelings toward liberalism and any sort of social justice movements.
More importantly believe what they do. Last week I read a BBC fact check of Harris. One of the checks was her claiming trump wants to cut social security and Medicare. BBC said that this was false because he's claimed he won't cut it. Then they add some more context that actually he did try to cut it multiple times when power. I was tearing my hair out. The compulsive liar said he wouldn't do it but LITERALLY TRIED REPEATEDLY (and failed) to do it. It's INSANE!
So true but they would not have amassed this much power if the People were not buying their stuff and suffering from greed themselves. There needs to be a complete reset of priorities by all of us. For instance how much social media is actually useful or needed and how much of the constant mind numbing bullshit is affecting our collective mental and physical health. Each one of us has got to start taking personal responsibility for what has happened.
And how about using a little common sense when it comes to supporting the businesses and corporations of these megalomaniacs and stop making them richer. Oh and how about taxing them at a reasonable rate, like 70%.Just voting blue and not using your purchasing power to show these megalomaniacs that the People are in charge is not going to change anything. And you should be questioningwhy it takes billions of dollars to win a campaign and where is that money coming from and stop the flow. There is no way they are raking in millions and millions of dollars from the voters' $5 donation. It is not enough to just vote blue. That is how we got trump and his cohorts.
If you need anything to understand where Thiel is coming from all you need to know is that he's stated, publicly, that companies should strive for a monopoly. A monopoly, as you may remember, is a situation where a company has complete control of an industry and can thus set whatever price they want. Also baked into this is an effort to prevent other companies from having a chance to compete using every means available to prevent a competitor from being viable. Being able to lower the price to undercut a competitor knowing they will not have the money to cover the losses. Being able to pay a visit to important politicians in DC and at the state level to ensure that the government doesn't step in or that they do step in to undermine the competitor. Being able to limit wage and benefits for the employees by denying them an alternative place of work. Thiel knows what he's doing and he knows that what he's doing is harming the middle class and our Constitutional Republic, but it is profitable and that's all that matters.
His personal charisma is woefully lacking, so he's not really qualified to recognizing in others. Not dumb but just incapable in real life situations, very capable in controlled environments, absolute shit in spontaneously generated ones. He'll soon enough be blown to cinders by events he's had no chance to rigg before they actually happen . Just like his neurodivergent buddy he doesn't understand he's just a lucky poorly adjusted guy rather than a predestined genius.
They don’t, since they are pathological narcissists. Other people do not exist, they are merely introject objects that may or may not have a use. For awhile.

This is such a heinous conversation. Now I understand what happened to my son; he lived in Santa Clara and was a tech worker right at the time you are describing. And he made a sharp right turn. We are completely alienated now and have no contact. And I didn’t know what happened. And now I do. It’s very sad.
It comes down to the fact that no one should be able to amass enough wealth (taken from working people through monopoly, gouging, etc) to be able to have such an outsized political influence. There's a diversity of political thought in every society, but such extremism only gets a disproportionate amount of power when they have as much money as many small countries' GDP
Nice to see how utterly fascinated these independent journalists are with their “contrarian” subjects, to the point of apologizing for their most inhumane, disconnected ideas. I’d prefer people who are both knowledgeable and skeptical, like Kara Swisher. Thiel deserves to be examined as hostile to the sort of ethically informed, collectively beneficial, and above all balanced society that defines progressivism. The comments about women alone point to Thiel’s singular and isolated orientation. Why do we hold these people up?
I know people who worked w Thiel back in Palantir. Thiel did not elevate JD straight out of law school, with no resume or anything because of the goodness of his heart. He has thrown serious money and effort for Vance. This is a lot more "behind the covers" going on here.
@@anthonyburee650 Nietzsche gets a bad rap. Hitler's Übermensch is all about race and nationality and codified rights and wrongs, none of which hold any inherent value within Nietzsche's Nihilist framework. I kind of doubt he really read Nietzsche's writing, tbh, since it seems he just mined it for intellectually-sounding words to give his racist genocide a veneer of intellectualism. Nietzsche's Übermensch, meanwhile, is a hypothetical goal about becoming the author of your values, instead of just having them handed to you from god, authority or what have you. It's the version of you that is able to overcome your own base humanity, your weaknesses, emotions and unshackle yourself from dogma. Now. The problem there is that... well, it's nihilism. Nihilism doesn't make you into an asshole, but an asshole that only engages with the surface level won't find anything that explicitly tells them why it's wrong to be an asshole.
@@havcola6983 You're right to distinguish Nietzsche from Hitler. Nietzsche was misappropriated by the nazis. However, Nietzsche was not a nihilist. He is warning against the dangers of nihilism. He argues for new values (a "transvaluation of values" ) in the face of a general collapse of meaning in the west, which he called the Death of God. Because all meaning was anchored in the belief in God, the western world is undergoing a collapse of meaning or an inevitable descent into nihilism. This is Nietzsche's concern with nihilism.

I think they look to a place like Russia for an example. Where the religious zealots control the lowly proles and plebs while the oligarchs silently rule.

@@sumpoosieguy That, or you're just dumb. "Elon is a hero" is a dead giveaway.
No excuses can cover what this man Peter is and stands for
The problem with this analysis is that it doesn't go back far enough.
Just look at Donald's upbringing, with his father's ideologies shaping his worldview.
I don’t think the psycho invalidates your history. Cutting the fact of humans (or the masses) psyche out of the picture is folly.
Thank you for that background.

Did he also mentor Vance to have zero charisma?

He sees himself as a Nietzschian Übermensch. The rest of us folks are inferior. What could possibly go wrong?
Nietze biggest fan was Hitler and you saw where that led
Got it in one!
@@havcola6983 You're right to distinguish Nietzsche from Hitler. Nietzsche was misappropriated by the nazis. However, Nietzsche was not a nihilist. He is warning against the dangers of nihilism.
