Dil Chahta Hai not just changed lives but was a game changer for Bollywood entirely and it shaped future films. Audiences were instantly connected with the characters. Also, there are several films like Nightcrawler and before and post these films, where the bad guy wins. The most important aspect that I learnt from films was that, Movies are a medium of telling a story. Any story and anyone's story. It is we as an audience that should be willing to experience it.

One movie taught that everyone is special in their own way, and the other taught us that there is only difference between people- ones who do good work and the others who do bad work

That's the kind of movies worth making & watching.

I completely agree with your list.
    No question.
Personally, I want to add Whiplash(2014) directed by Damien chazzale who later went on to direct La La Land(2016) and Drive(2011) directed by Nocholas Winding Reffn which personally changed me.
And also The social Network(2010) which also really influenced me. It taught me, if you believe and perfect what you do..... You can change the world. And I absolutely adore David fincher and arin sorkin... Also trent reznoik and attikas ross.
I can name another 1000 films but these three are the most relatable to me.

In my opinion you should have mentioned Farhan Akhtar's name as the director of Lakshya & Dil Chahta Hai for the people who are still unaware of the fact.
He is a real gem of the Bollywood industry and there's very few who has the potential of his level. IMO though.
Lakshya is one my all time favorite Indian movies.
