The father character in Pariyerum Perumal is most heart breaking! We live society where a Female behaving like a man is praised (Tomboy) but a man with a female look and behaviour are trolled! We created a stereotype that a father should be strong, manly and authoritive!Eventhough Pariyan's father isn't manly enough still he is a father!

@@TriedRefusedProductions You should watch fandry if you haven't yet, same director as sairat and explores this subject in a more raw manner. And also, Baalak Paalak (BP) directed by Ravi Jadhav, based on adolescence and loss of innocence as a part of coming of age. Effortless performances by the teenage cast and very sensitively handles the issue of exposure to adult films at a relatively young age.

Glad u mentioned "Pariyerum Perumal" here. It really is hard-hitting. Some of us are so privileged by birth that we fail to notice it. Many of us have also been reduced to silent spectators in many situations. Though we feel that the situation is getting better now, we must really start speaking against it.
The character who executes the honor killings is potrayed in such an impactful manner. Will never forget this film!

@@khawarrizvi45 That's your myopia speaking. It's not that Bale is doing something or has done something unprecedented in the world. That's the problem. We have a tendency to overrate Hollywood actors and other international actors and look down on our own. Kamal Haasan has been doing the stuff Bale's doing now since the time Bale was in his diapers. And yes his body of work and appreciation is far more than Bale. Same for Vikram. Bale works on one physique at a time for one film. And we are awed. What about the fact that Atul Kulkarni in Natarang sported three different physiques over a deadline? Or that Vikram did the same for I and many other films? That Kamal Haasan sir's been doing since the late 70s? Even Aamir Khan sported multiple physiques for Dangal and has undergone rigorous transformations for his films. One thing very unique about Kollywood is, we have both masala entertaining movies of budget of 100crs for diwali release and feel good, socially challenging, thriller movies with just a budget 2 crs. You know we welcome both the movies equally.. superdeluxe,
Pariyerum Perumal, aruvi, were all huge hits in box office. vijay sethupathi was called ambathu latcha ruba hero( 50lakhs hero) because he kept acting in movies of low budget, though it was huge hit., His salary was always around 50 lakhs.
If you had noticed the last scene of the movie, where kathir and annathis father had tea in same kind of glass.. that is the social equality people we want today... not the violence fights to show which group was great. For me Pariyerum Perumal is far better than vetrimarans movie. The incidents shown in the movie 99% real and still happening in rural tamilnadu. Nobody had the guts to show in cinema such raw humiliations the sect of people face..

I dont know how to put it, but when ever you come up with these videos, the ones with number of regional movies ,its a must watch. I feel very excited when ever the next name pops up.. Have watched 3 among these seven films. I feel more engaged to regional movies than Bollywood now, credit goes to you for bringing us names of lesser known movies. Thank you.

'Doshor' is another Bengali film staring Konkona Sen Sharma and Prasenjeet Chatterjee that left an impact on me. Sorta like 'Thappad' in one way but not quite. Plus its beautifully done in black and white.
Also i cant stress this enough Jammy check out 'Jheshtho putro'!

I watched aruvi a month ago. And its undoubtedly one of the best indian moviea. Rated on imdb at #16. Definitely oscar worthy. I bet you cant stop yourself from crying at the climax of aruvi. Emotional and stereotype breaking film. It will definitely change your perspective towards life.
