Thanks for this informative video! Was interesting to hear your ownership perspective especially as a fellow Aussie resident driving on our roads. Sounded like things I can live with especially as a 2nd car/weekender. This is also one of my dream cars but I’m 26yrs old and only a few yrs into my career… hopefully one day I can own this awesome machine!
Power concerns? Try RSR. Fogging concern? Lean how to use HVAC. Radiator protection? Buy grills. Gearing? Why are you under 4K rpm? You have PDK. Simply apply right foot firmly. Drone? Change upshift or get a camry. There. All problems solved.
Hitman yeah run that car well above 3k rpms at all times. It’s only gas I mean you can run 4K to 7k rpm for 24 hours straight on a track event. I have a 2000 Boxster and I drive it at high rpms on the old school Tiptronic all the time and it never fails to deliver power or reliability and it’s a base. So 20 years later I decided to keep it when I picked up my new 718 GTS. Seems to me the 981 is an awesome example as well, congratulations now step on that throttle and resist the urge to shift gears set go!
Agree with Leo Watson, there is a risk re the radiators but there are simple products you can get to resolve that. I haven't fitted anything additional to my boxster GTS and had it 2 years with no issues at all. Yes its noisy on long journeys with the sports exhaust in 'loud' mode but there's a switch to turn that off for exactly that reason. I don't find it underpowered (I also have an RS4 and its comparable in speed but the GTS far more enjoyable), I don't find the gear ratios too long and I don't find it too warm in the cabin. It's an almost faultless car, it really is...
#3.. Yes. The rest of these issues, I don't personally find to be an issue. Power, Noise..etc.. I knew what I was getting into and I've loved mine for over 2 years. The only thing I dislike aside from #3, is that my roof squeaks while rubbing against the top of my head rest protectors. Drives me nuts. I've tried 3m fabric and sticking it to the inside of the roof (same black shade so it blends) but when the temp outside warms up, the 3m comes off.. Aside from that, the car has been amazing.
I added the Zunnsport grils to mine. Yes, they're a little fidgety to install, but not that hard as a DIY. Highly recommend and the company was great to work with when I had an ordering issue - it's been a few years, but if memory serves correct, they did Fedex next day from the U.K. to the U.S. at no additional cost to me.
Love the 981 gts just needed a lot more power for me. I ended up buying a 2nd low k 718s tuned and piped it to a 440hp car, insane! Never looked back. My issue with the 718 was always the 4pot and that failure of an exhaust. When l spoke to my engine tech he got me in to listen and drive a tuned 718 with exhaust upgrade. Basically all they did was adapt the left overs from the 981 6 and demanded a good note from it. That points all to Porsche’s design team and the failures that took place in its design process. The 718 needs a lively exhaust designed to get that huge volume of air removed from that amazing 4 turbo. For an all in 110k Aus k, fucking amazing!! I’m glad people have run the car down as there’s no way l could’ve justified spending anymore for that sort of package, 718 are cheap in comparison and with the news from APR for a upcoming 500hp upgrade, wow. I always loved the boxsters, just couldn’t pull the trigger on one where a wrx could beat me at the lights!😂
Ty Thomas Boxing Training prefer a car that goes as good as it looks, 981 is a completely different car to the 982 gen, both have pros and cons, for me the 982 had less cons.
Interesting your No.1 reason is completely solved by the 718, yet is almost universally hated. Have you driven a 718 S? They feel MUCH faster than the 981's.
Awesome, awesome video. I absolutely love the 981 boxster and the GTS is just amazing. Currently looking at the market; the prices of a 987.2 S are similar to a 981 2.7 (with a quite good spec such as PSE, Sport Chrono Plus, etc.); I can't decide!
Mirco Daminelli did you already decide? My wife has a 981 2.7 Black edition with full options. Including the PSE which is a must in my opinion! The exhaust sound is awesome and similar to the S or GTS. Depending on your experience in driving sports cars the speed is not that important, it’s the total package that makes the car feel alive :)
Roy Borgman yep, I’ve bought a 987 Cayman S, there was an offer i just couldn’t refuse; ma next car should be the 981, I love it. Thanks for the advice!
@@xContentx1 I got the 987 but I don't have it anymore, I would've preferred the 981 but prices were very different when I bought it. Still, the best car i've ever owned
DKKC, I want to understand this well because I’m in the verge of a purchase. It gets hot in the cabin quickly, but if the top is up and you use the airconditioning, is it ok? Can you elaborate on your point? Thanks!
First, second and third dislikes.... mmm first one, you already knew what power specs the car had before you bought it, right? Second one, most two door sport cars are like that, I had a M235i and got hot too, no big deal, windows down or AC on. Third, you already knew about the front open grilles before you bought the car, that is easily solved with Zunn grills. Fifht one, the drone, another thing that it is perceived when test driving the car before purchasing...... the only complaint I might understand is the gearshifts, all others are either fixable or may be accepted before purchasing this or any car or, declined and decide on another different car.
Nice review and very subjective, I can see your points given you are not paying Nissan 370Z type money and Porsche do know how to build cars properly. GTS being a run out model have time to get everything correct. I admit these days its become a mainstream model in a Boxster life cycle which is just marketing. The gearing and radiators are definitely valid. But like you said you quantified your list of 5 before you started. Nobody is saying a GTS is not a good car.

nope i haven't - however I am wary of what they sacrificed in that 718 engine, despite it being faster

Planning on buying a used one. So the air conditioning does not work well?
Air conditioning works fine. Just get pretty hot in the cabin quickly
DKKC, I want to understand this well because I’m in the verge of a purchase. It gets hot in the cabin quickly, but if the top is up and you use the airconditioning, is it ok? Can you elaborate on your point? Thanks!
Buy it! There's nothing wrong with the temperature in the cabin for 99% of people. Air con works perfectly.
Ice cold, works perfectly for me if needed.
@@jbringas9582did you buy it? And if so, how is the a/c?
How tall are you
Their is switch called defrost if I know what's that mean
3: GRANTED the rest= NONSENSE
No grills on the radiators easy to clean.
Also easy for stones to damage!
thanks for your video. i just picked up my 2019 porsche boxster gts: th-cam.com/video/a2pUGWDik2w/w-d-xo.html LOVE IT!
