For those of us who were young adults graduating high school, Skid Row's songs represented who we were so perfectly. This song, I Remember You, there isn't a human on the planet who can't identify with this. Lost love. Sebastian sang it with such feeling that it captivated broken hearts of our generation (mine included) and gave us a way to work through the pain. To this day, the song is so sentimental to me, because of what it meant to me then, and still means to me now.
I agree totally, Skid Row came out when i was at my last year of High School and that song was a huge hit, well, the whole album was a hit that year, with Dr. Feelgood of Motley Crue, Pump by Aerosmith, The Cult with Sonic Temple and also Metallica were still riding on And Justice For All. 1989-1990 was a fantastic last high school year for me.
@@denniscach5060 yea Geoff Tate of Queensryche has an amazing voice as well. And that song, Silent Lucidity, is amazing. I used to listen to that album, Empire, on repeat.
Memories of my teenage years and early 20's, with my circle of friends, singing this at the top of our lungs at parties...such an excellent reminder of times gone by. Skid Row can rock your face off, make no mistake. But this one is ABSOLUTELY smacking me right upside the feels. 😁
Brad, Lex thank you for reacting to truly some of the best music ever made. I think Lex would have truly loved being a teenager in the '80's. Let me tell you....it was awesome.
The vocals on that song are simply superb. Those notes were hit so perfectly and powerfully it was a masterclass in how to perform a rock ballad. Great subject matter and lyrics, amazing music and unbelievable vocals. It does hit you ‘in the feels!’
The homeless guy in the video was mourning for so long it destroyed his life, at the end he is finally able to let her go because hearing the band he realized he forgot about all the great memories they made together and the quality of the love they had. Not everyone in a relationship can say they had both, or even one.
I always had the feeling that he went to prison or something else happened and while he was away she moved on because if his loss was to her death I don't think he'd burn the pictures. I agree with you 100% that the end leads to him finally letting go.
@@jamesyoung7560 possibly. The most we can say for certain is that he is no longer with her and he has obsessed over her to the point where he allowed it to ruin his life but at the end of the video he finds the will to move on by letting her go.
Only went to their concert because my girlfriend (highschool 🤣) LOVED them! Plus Pantera was the opening act. These guys put on one of the best/hardest shows (except SLAYER) that I've ever seen 👍
This song was hot back in my high-school days. The meaning is different now that I'm older. I can relate to how the guy walking through town might be longing for days gone by and relationships that are no more. Like life has taken him one way and others a different way. Realizing that certain parts of life are over is painful.
for my wife and I...this is 'our' song! we met (and started going out) not long after I saw these guys in their hey day in 1989 (amazing show, btw), and this one still makes us look at each other and smile. we've been together since June 1990, we have two adult kids now, and are still very much in love - and this song will always hold a special place for both of us. 🙂
Ahh, the 80' Power Ballad, this one is definitely my favorite, along with Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home. Almost all rock bands during that time period had a least one of these.
This song still touches the feelings. My first love and I were dating when this song came out. It was a great song then, but means more now. She passed away a few years after we broke up, but I still remember her…
Sebastian Bach is one of the best rock singers. He has range for days. And the song is about his wife who died. Sleepless nights, every endless day meaning the days and nights were long without her. He remembers everything about when she was alive. He's letting go of the pain of losing her that's why he's getting rid of the pictures, but he will always remember her and all the memories they had.
His wife didn’t die. lol. First of all.. they put this song out in 1989 when he was 21. He met his wife and married her a year later in 1992. They were married 18 years.. had kids and divorced in 2010. 🤦🏻♀️ The guitarist wrote the lyrics to this song.. they are about ANYONE who’s lost a love whether thru a breakup or death.
I recommend Wasted Time, Sebastian Bach sings the hell out of this song 🎶 its about Steve Adler of Guns & Roses because he was killing himself with heroine! It’s my favorite song from Skid Row! Sebastian Bach was a force of nature back in the day with his stage presence and voice I also love ❤️ Youth Gone Wild!
I saw them twice in the early 90's they played this song at my buddies funeral in 91. Sebashtan Bach doesn't get much better then that one of the greatest voices ever!
I love skid row. My ex and I were on holidays in Thailand and our hotel was across the street from some local apartments. Heard skid row coming from across the street and saw rockers singing along. We joined the party
One of the reasons being old ain’t too bad is I got to experience the vast majority of songs y’all react to when they came out, and have memories tied to these songs. Hope you keep enjoying the old stuff.
@@tammyford2357 So cool! I'm happy for him that he's been able to use his incredible voice and performing talent in multiple ways, rock music, Broadway musicals..it makes sense considering his talent that he would expand out like that.
I saw Skid Row when they opened for GNR. One of the best concerts ever. He was (is) one beautiful man. Not handsome… beautiful 🤩. His hair was epic! His voice was epic as well, so much power and range and NO auto tune. That’s what music is missing today. Too many singers who can’t actually sing🤦🏻♀️
It’s been a while I heard this song and brought back memories of driving through the Colorado Mountains headed to Denver to visit my girlfriend from high school. Amazing how music brings back memories long forgotten like it was yesterday, thanks for the song reaction. Hmmm I wonder where and how she is these days🤔
As incredible as the song is, the video gives it an even greater power in depicting this gut-wrenching part of life, the decision to let go of a loved one for the betterment of, sometimes the necessity of one's own life, even survival.
Ah this gives me flashbacks to when i was 14 in the eighties, building a model car or airplane, and listening to this album over and over (on cassette tape!)
Loved this song since it came out and I’ve never thought it was suggesting that his love had died but that she was simply his one true love that got away. They’ve both moved on but he has always carried a flame in his heart for her. Now years later, he has moved on and part of his moving on is getting rid of all the physical reminders of her. But none of his actions will ever be able to strip away his memories of her and their time together. He will never be free of her memory even as he tries desperately to be.
Technical excellence, soaring, extremely emotive vocals, beautiful melody and flow, gutwrenching lyrics... Put it all together, and you have easily one of the greatest songs ever made. The emotion and power it evokes are indescribable, though I gave it my best shot. The story told through the video very effectively captures the power of the song also. Skid Row has been a favorite of mine since hearing their self-titled debut album and the “Youth Gone Wild” video on MTV. They came to town as the opening act for Bon Jovi during their “Slippery When Wet” tour, my band mates and I met Sebastian Bach and Rachel Bolan (bass/lyrics) downtown the afternoon before the show after they did an interview at our local rock radio station. They both were very approachable and super cool dudes to meet! Many years later when I was based in Cleveland, OH flying for a regional airline, I was surprised to see the band (with the singer who replaced Sebastian after their falling out and his departure from the band) step out onto the ramp to board our plane for a flight over to South Bend, IN where they had a gig that night. Very cool memories for me on this one, thanks for reacting to it.
