  • The final installment in our training series brings it all together and lays out the complete tutorial, guide, or whatever you want to call it for how to train players in Football Manager. From the preseason to the final big match and from your U18’s to the senior team, this is how to train in FM. I think I have run out of poetic ways to tell you this will make your players develop more and help you win more games. I FOUND ANOTHER ONE LET’S GO!
    In all seriousness, huge credit to the training team for helping me put this together. They both emailed me separately having done preliminary testing and once we organized a system to answer training questions, I feel like we put it all together to make people’s time on Football Manager more enjoyable. It helps develop wonderkids, which for me makes my time more enjoyable.
    Much Love,
    FM Senpai

    I got back to back promotions as Plymouth from League One to Premier League using the Zealand training. My team averages were all middling or below average across all attributes, and we lost about 5 games across both seasons. It's crazy how much those attribute training boosts up your game.
    I consider myself fairly good at the tactics side of the game, and I put a lot of work into keeping the squad happy and cohesion high, but I saw a crazy jump in performance when I started training the way this video series recommended. Honestly to the point where the game has almost felt too easy.
    Still got hammered 6-1 in our first game in the Premier League against Man City, though. :')

    A correction: Player Traits Does NOT take up CA of players, Footedness and conflicting Positions (eg nat RB-ST will take more CA than CB-DM) also the Major Chunk is the jump from Competent to Accomplished (14 to 15 position Rating) the only thing traits will do is 1 obviously make them play differently (maybe not good so doesnt Dev as good) 2 take up training time teaching

    If you really want to maximise your training for winning games, you need data. I always leave the two Friday morning slots open in my schedules until I get the opposition report. Open it, read it, embrace it. Your analysts will tell you how and where they score and concede.
    They score a lot of headed goals from corners? Put in a defending corners on Friday morning. They concede a lot of through balls? Attacking movement. You can specifically target areas of weakness or strength to exploit or shut down. There's no such thing as a training schedule that fits all teams all the time. You've gotta be more dynamic than that.

      We understand how attacking/defensive movement works, but if for example a team is reported to concede a lot via crosses from left wing, would an attacking wings training makes sense?

    • @martinslvsten428
      @martinslvsten428 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This training schedule IS really good, especially for the people who just wants to plug 'n play. It can work just fine, but it is a passive way of playing. Being active when playing tweaking training, like you say here, or making slight tweaks to your tactic or using OI's depending on what your analyst says and tweaking the tactic during game depending on what you see, will always grant better results once you have learned how to do it efficiently. It takes some time, but it will make you a better football manager player.
      If they concede alot via crosses from the left wing, you can train attacking wings. You can tweak your tactic to focus play down the left. If you use an inverted winger or forward on the left, try using a left wing back and let them do overlaps on the left. You can change the inverted winger/forward to a regular winger ( might need another player who is left footed) and tell him to cross the ball more often. Be sure your crosses are set to be low, if your attacker is small. Float them if he is tall ect. There are many ways of doing it. Choose one. See how the game unfolds. If your first choice isn't enough, try something else or add more.

    Rant- 7:36 from 'Evidence based FM'- General Atk, Def & Match prac are the best training + Resistance... all other variations of specific Atk, Def, tech, work on a lot less attributes with the same end result. Like 99% of games the on screen descriptions don't match what is happening in the code.
    There's no difference swapping the sub group training blocks. Ball transition, penalty training has no effect on attributes as well... Just filling everything with Attack, Defence, match prac will boost stats the fastest + physicals + Def shape & Atk movement
    + Training intensity does a very small increase in attributes. The more training sessions blocks is what matters.

    Hey Zealand. So I've watched your videos. Applied your training schedules, gotten 4,5 star coaches minimum, with a light to average load, praised the h3ll out of my players training, played a classic 4 2 3 1, signed Karim Adeyemi, Calegari, Sven Botman, Maxemce Lacroix, Nicolla Barella, Youri Tielemans, Dusan Vlahovic, Lorenzo Lucca, Nicolla Rovella, Samuele Ricci, Luke Thomas, Dominik Livakovic. Kept players like Tierney, Martinelli, Ødegaard, Gabriel and Smith Rowe. Right now playing Livakovic, Thomas, Gabriel, lacroix, Calegari at the back, tielemans and Barella in the midfield, martinelli, ødegaard and Adeyemi with vlahovic on top. Had back to back invincible seasons in the prem, won 2 FA cups and 1 Champions League. Right now at the 5th game in season 3. Have lost 4 games total. No cheats whatsoever. Where do I go from here? Where to strengthen the team? How to keep it challenging? P.s to dollar content, love the humour.

    Another good vid but it's once again focused solely on the minority full time big league clubs in the game. The vast majority of the playable leagues and 9/10 added custom databases are parttime clubs (semi pro or even amateur). Even Z plays LLM so perhaps it's time for an addendum to the series focusing on part time training schedules too because not everybody is as good as Z getting out of these leagues :p

    • @TheJoshuaDarling
      @TheJoshuaDarling 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      After following Z's advise in this series I think for part time/LLM saves, the main priority is winning and not developing so focus mainly on getting your boosts in to help you win.
      For me it's basically get your match prep boosts in, then sprinkle an overall/outfield and the odd team bonding to keep moral/team cohesion high, especially if you have a high turnaround of players.
      Hope that helps

      If you are in England just schedule against u23 premiere teams. It will earn you a lot of money and you can often get 2 of these every week. Just invite 30 random trialists and let them play all these friendlies. I did this from tier10 until i go Pro in League 2. End of season and preseason you can schedule dozens of games they all are big earners. Its like 5k-20k profit for each game depending on stadium.

    Yo, thanks for all the videos! Helped me a lot to quickly learn the basics... started a new save with Magdeburg in the German 3rd League and should actually have won my first official game - DFB Pokal against Hoffenheim lol. Engine seemingly bugged out and disallowed an offside corner goal which from my knowledge clearly wasn't offside. Ended up losing 3-4 in penalties after leading 3-2, oof. Still, way better result than i would have gotten without your coaching, so thanks!
    Oh... and i feel like stats lie for certain players or there is a lot of luck involved. My supposedly best striker hasn't scored once in the complete preseason and pokal match despite getting plenty of chances and having the physicality and stats to win headers. Meanwhile my Inside forward with more than a star less frequently sets up goals or just randomly outdribbles everyone for the solo effort haha.

    • @Highonwater3X
      @Highonwater3X 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stars are definitely a lie. They can be super misleading about which players are actually better or worse. With attributes, I've had strikers with 18+ in all the key attributes and they can't score a goal to save their life, meanwhile a 13 finishing sub is score hattricks off the bench regularly. Sometimes it's just a matter of the player profile not quite fitting with the tactic even though on paper it looks like they should, and sometimes it's the hidden attributes that affect that sort of thing.
      Also, sometimes FM just be like that. Despite improvements in the last few editions, strikers still miss FAR too many 1v1's, wingers and fullbacks still don't square the ball to the open player at the back post regularly even with high teamwork, decisions, and vision. Try adjusting the player instructions/roles to see if that helps with the striker not scoring, then make adjustments to the tactic overall, then maybe just wait until they've reached familiarity. The more time you spend with the players the more likely they can actually put your tactics into practice.
      I started a new save with Lyon recently and had a very similar thing. My keeper seemingly just gave up at halftime and just stopped going for balls that were closer to him than the striker and they scored a hattrick to come back and win 4-2, meanwhile my strikers were missing clear cut chances (Xg was something like 2.7 for me vs 1.02 for them). Needless to say I wasn't happy.

    Would you recommend a pattern of rotation with the schedules to achieve certain development gains or is it just a matter of stamina management during the season?
    I try to have separate sessions for the u18s to really push the physicals up.

    • @aaronburgoin8322
      @aaronburgoin8322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Don't know if you have already gotten your answer but assuming you haven't, yes you should. Players are usually little bitches and tend to complain if there's something they're not training at all. So it's always better to rotate between training schedules (in one of the videos of this series he actually gave two regular season training schedules you should rotate). Plus you'll be getting boosts and increase on a wider range of stats.
      Also, you should rotate between trainings of the same "family". I, for instance, every two weeks change my usually "Defending from the front" to "Defending Engaged" and leave it like that for two weeks and will usually rotate between the two as they are the ones that match my tactics the most. I do the same for attacking and technical trainings.
      Hopefully this was of any help to you! If not I apologize for the long comment 😅

      In my experience, its very easy to go overboard with physical training even for young players. They then train much worse overall and complain. I have a bunch of decent U19 players in my save except they suffer from strength 1. Despite putting all of them on strength focus for a season, they only went up to 4 at the most while being unhappy and stagnating in other areas.
      I have a suspicion that individual training is mostly ineffective if they already train enough of that attribute in team training

    Been making my way through all these videos as an FM newbie, recently watched one where Zealand said that having youth players in the senior squad to take part in first team training is much better for their development vs being in the youth squads and that unless a youth player is playing at least 70 minutes in a game they shouldn't come on at all to give them the best development.
    Now the youth players shouldn't be in the senior squad and the player needs to only play 15 minutes of gametime to develop? 🙃 confused as all hell.

    • @NielsMulvad
      @NielsMulvad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      15+ min to get a match review.
      Better match score (review) = better development. Longer playtime usually mean better chance for your team to get a good score.
      Better training = better development, but if you are not using them then don't pull them from training.
      Instead just let them train with the first time, so they get trained by the a squad trainers rather then "just" the youth trainers. Who generally is worse.

    I tend to listen to my Sports Scientists in regards to training intensity after matches. This is especially helpful if your best player(s) tend to get injured a lot over a season or are older and are already playing at or around their peak CA.
    Ive run tests on this using Tottenham. Harry Kane, as good as he is, gets injured a lot over the season. So I did 10 runs each using either the SS advice and not using this advice.
    Kane got injured around 35% less in the saves where I used their advice. In fact injuries as a whole were WAY down when you listen to the SS training advice.
    The only issue that I noticed was that some of my younger players did not develop as well as there were many days when they were at 1/2 power on training after games. I didnt quantify those results but it was somewhat noticable on playera under the age of 24.

    So, I have been watching your videos retroactively cause I just returned to FM after a few years off.
    Your training videos are great and I definitely abused them with a few mods here and there...however...
    Since I just want to play games and games, I kinda forgot that the AI catches up to my tactics and the fitness heart might be pulsating green but the fatigue is a all time low.
    I played around with the tactics and beat the AI, success.
    My wonderbread in all this, with your training and I am quoting you "You do not need the rest sessions besides the ones that are forced in due to home/away game etc.", since many of my players have low fatigue, I was asking myself, why did he remove all the rest sessions since obviously with all the training, the cups, the champions league the country league, players are just not going to make that ti0ght schedule without rest. Naturally you can manage it player by player, a little micro management but it probably would not hurt to give the team and afternoon off now and then, what doo you think? Maybe hit the Zoo, or perhaps the beach or just lay around and play FiFA...

    Question: if you have a few older guys around with good character mainly for mentoring, would it not make better sense to put the mentor in the U18/U23 squad to mentor the youngsters than call up the youngster? I'd assume training is less important for the mentor as they're probably over the hill anyway

    Of what value is it to gain "match boosts" to attacking movement if most of your attacking players have shit/mediocre values for anticipation, OTB and decisions? Surely it would just be better to include more sessions that might actually help them to increase their base values of the relevant attributes over time? On the other hand, a team whose attacking players all already have very high values for the relevant attributes might not need the boost - unless they're up against an evenly-matched team whose defenders have high values for the defensive shape attributes.

    I might be cussing in the church here but is there any automated training that actually works or a "plug and play" training schedule that you just have to set first time and don´t bother with after? I am one of those who don´t like the training part of the game but I really feel that I miss out on the development of players since I always let my coaches do the training for me.
    Is there a schedule out there that is full plug and play? You just click it once and it automatically give you the best possible training your staff can provide? :)

      2 Physical with 1 Match per Week...then switching to 2 Matches a Week with more Tactical Training for Weeks 3 and 4 and in Week 5 i Switch to Normal Training with 1 Match
      With good Medical Staff and adjusting the Load depending on my Scientists Recommendations i have Low Injuries,nearly Full Tactical Fam and Perfect Sharpness.
