Future of mabi is looking good, it remembers me of Log Horizon with all these arcanas, for so long Mabi has been a you can do/be everything game, and its slowly becoming a party building game with the holy trinity of MMOs, maybe they can make a "Party" only difficulty for the dungeons, as in requiring a tank, dps, heals kind of party; without removing the "yea if you're strong enough you can solo" difficulties, thx for video!

But I think it's more like you still can do that easily but now you have a specific set of skills to utilize. I'm personally not sure if I like that honestly. I didn't like FF14 because of how rigid roles are. As an example FF14 Red Mage is just NOT actually a red mage, It's just a DPS because it HAS to fit into a role. I hope for something better for Mabi, I know it's struggled for a while and needs a shaken up, but even while it struggled it's been a very unique game, I'd hate to see it become exactly the same as WoW or FF14.

Oh, shield arcana sounds like Crusader from Ragnarok Online. And the character looking Paladin-like? Pretty cool stuff. Also, that night theme really sets the mood. Reminds me when we used to actually sit down and have a nice chat with randos without having 50 shops around.
The whole dynamic atmosphere actually feels like it's a huge nod to the old days of sitting around a campfire and chilling out. I'm really hoping for the immersion to be as good as it's looking. And shield arcana girl seems like a huge hit. I'm hoping we will be seeing way more armor sets come out. The game will never have enough!

No other game i've played made its learning mechanics like those of a blue mage for everyone. There's still so much I don't know. So it makes finding little trivial nuggets of information special, like the Fire arrow trick.

The Shield Arcana/arcanus reminds me of the Enirpsa (anadrome/anagram of asprine) class in Wakfu/Dofus. The Lancer Arcana reminds me of the Accretian gunner class in RF Online, which is also similar to how the tower cylinders are used in Mabinogi. Mabinogi seems to be concentrating all the skills into arcanae (in taxonomy suffix -us becomes -ae in plural) like most rpg classes become relegated to. Though it may still be a power creep yet the arcana system relies on the skills the player may need to upgrade nonetheless.
It's going to be a very fine line they will ride in relying on arcana to utilizing talent skills. We are just going to have to wait and see how reliant we will have be. : )

Bro, hearing that nighttime OST of Dunby and Taill brought some serious nostalgic vibes, reminding me of being back in high school, and I had just gotten my Nintendo DS with a copy of Pokemon Diamond, going to Jubilife City and hearing the night time music. Obviously completely different games, but the vibe and atmosphere in both those scenarios... pure auditory bliss, pure nostalgia all around. Having only been into the 2nd week of Battle Astrology, the game is seriously making some huge improvements. I will say that shifting towards this new more role-based type of combat, or dungeons like Crom Bas where it's more choreographed is the right decision, because the Phantasm boss is an example of why old school mabi's combat is a bit outdated when you don't kill her immediately.

It's almost like a nod to the old days of the game. Since we sorta relied on roles in dungeons if you were around or saw gameplay. But yeah, I hope it's not a disaster!
it's nice to hear the remixes and orchestrals and whatever else but personally i still like the original music a lot more in almost every case though the piano remake of bright and clear sky is one of the few exceptions, that one was always held back a little by the vst and the new one is really emotional
I'm willing to bet there will be an option to switch between music versions like we have now from classic, to the orchestras, and then to the modern rendition. But, yeah, I am the same way with Tir music, graveyard, and the lobbies of dungeons, haha.
I just don't know what they could do... When they announced new weapons, all it made me do was think of all the mats I need to make the weapon and the anxiety of rolls and special upgrade success. More so, you gotta reforge it and enchant it. It's so much gold and investment. I really don't want to do it haha

You mentioned a roles system like other mmorpgs. Well, the ROLL system is also from other mmorpgs if it's what I'm thinking about. Effectively, instead of the chest stuff where it's RNG per person per chest, in other mmos, if a rare item drops, everyone can roll on it. Some times it's class restricted to where only that class can roll on it. So if it's a tank item, only tanks can roll. In some other games there's also a greed system where classes get priority, but others can still greed roll on it if the prior classes pass. Example - Tank item - Tank rolls 1, greed player rolls 99. Tank gets it by default because they tank. However, Tank passes - 0, Greed rolls 1, greed gets it because no tanks wanted the item. I don't know if this is the system they're going to use, but if they guarantee drops, then people can RNG roll on it and whoever rolls the highest number wins the drop. That's my thoughts on what the roll system is. And based on the screenshot dice along with the numbers, it looks like that's what they're going for. Which is not bad at all. That means eventually, if you keep running the dungeon, and if drops have a higher chance of dropping, you will eventually be able to get rare items without 0.000000001% fucking you up the ass. Also blast lancer is literally gunlance from Monster hunter.

Not at all. I actually think a lot of people play this game for reasons other than combat and the music is undeniably well done. HanStone made a masterpiece with the Mabo soundtrack.

I have been playing since 2014 and while I never played this game in its end-game, so maybe it never really did function this way in practice, something that I thought at least made Mabinogi unique was the *lack* of distinct roles. With the addition of Arcana it appears they are decidedly leaning away from that, and I am a bit sad about it. As I said however I never really played in the end-game and people fitting distinct roles may have already really been a thing even before Arcana. I will of course continue to enjoy the game regardless of what direction they go with it regarding classes/roles/etc. but again that's just how I feel about things as a casual person who has always had a more conceptual vs. practical view of the combat and character progression of Mabinogi. Also as a returning player 10000000% agree we need some sort of weapon progression vs. replacement, I am absolutely struggling to get adequate gear and am TERRIFIED at what the costs for the newest weapons would be lol
You're def not alone in that mindset. Coming from someone who did endgame prior to arcana, the versatility of using everything was pretty demanding and we have to remember that's still there. It's just undermined by arcana now. Also, the cost of having multiple sets of gear made the level of entry to doing mid to endgame content was way way way too high. Arcana is the answer to that. I think a better view point would be to look at arcana as a specialization and all your other talents to be the tools of the trade. But yeah, it's def different but I think we too have to act different with the changes in order to enjoy it. But, your feelings are def validated

I ALSO did not consider the cost of getting multiple skillsets adequate weapons and how arcana solves that as well! I have always loved magic music and wanted Cleric to be relevant so I think I am leaning HS, especially if healing becomes actually needed.
@@JemuzuDatsWho So the scythe talent is coming to NA which will give HS a decent offensive ability. So you would prob be scything for damage when you need it. I almost always feel like recommending DD to everyone starting out for how powerful it is. Like, you probably could solo techs with just a celtic staff and DD with a high link level. Guess we will just have to wait and see how scythe plays out. From what I see scythe is pretty crazy damage but a pain to rank

I don't mind but here a problem. Early game content is completely different from end game where you all of a sudden need roles to be able to succeed. A single mistake = fail principle is so bad that is just discourages me.
@@lonexon I've been advocating a complete redo of early to mid game for years since the game does absolutely nothing to prepare you for later content. It's a syndrome of old mmos where old content is left behind as they continue to add new stuff. The main reason I'm so excited for a new engine is they have a chance to completely fix early and mid game experiences for a player; to rebalance everything.
Question is this coming with the eternity update? Does this mean eternity is in 2025 because we already had the other updates and from the graphics in the clips it seemed like something for eternity.
the new arcanas are already in test servers in KR so I'd assume they will be in NA sometime next year(2025). The new dungeon stuff, I don't know. As for the new engine, a quarterly report from Nexon shows they are aiming for end of 2027. So, a ways off. They are literally building a new game at this point so it makes sense.

Where did you find out about these "quarterly updates" according to nexon kr website the schedule hinted something about an engine overall within 21 years.

I feel the new Arcana looks a little lacking from what they've shown. First issue i have with the tank is the 'pushing' abilities would mess with team groupings. And that class will introduce a bunch of other buffs to keep up with. And the lance gun was SOOO lack luster with what they showed us. Like they showed us a really wanky dash skill that kinda already exists... In the Q&A there was a user who asked if they could share with us how far along the Eternity update was % wise, and the director said it's difficult to quantify it but they would continue to share more frequently on the work they've been doing (i don't believe this because they always say it but never show us enough). I'm definitely not wanting them to rush but they just don't share enough for us to feel content! If they want the hype to stay alive they need to definitely share more with us on what they've been working on. Even if it's just simple screen shots!
I'm def going to reserve judgement until we know more. I know they delayed lance arcana for almost over a year to figure out what would work. So we may just be looking at old lance stuff and the vid didn't feel representative. So until I see actual skill info and demonstrations I am considering these in like alpha stage still, haha. And the Eternity thing has a "deadline" of the end of 2027, so they are probably way too far out to even see the end. It's going to be a loooooonnnnnggggggg time trust me, haha. They probably don't want to show too much so early on since things are still in the early stages. I thought that I was the only one who had the same reaction as you when they showcased the Lance Arcana.
Maybe it's how they presented it?? Maybe with the new Lance skills we recently got we will be more mobile and possibly it's still in early development so it's not totally fleshed out? I'm not going to wave it away yet. We need to see it in actual combat before I can make judgement, haha

Bro, hearing that nighttime OST of Dunby and Taill brought some serious nostalgic vibes, reminding me of being back in high school, and I had just gotten my Nintendo DS with a copy of Pokemon Diamond, going to Jubilife City and hearing the night time music. Obviously completely different games, but the vibe and atmosphere in both those scenarios... pure auditory bliss, pure nostalgia all around.
Having only been into the 2nd week of Battle Astrology, the game is seriously making some huge improvements. I will say that shifting towards this new more role-based type of combat, or dungeons like Crom Bas where it's more choreographed is the right decision, because the Phantasm boss is an example of why old school mabi's combat is a bit outdated when you don't kill her immediately.

But yeah, like you said, it's severely outdated. There's gotta be a lot more done in order for the game to be what I would consider "good". All we gotta do is wait and see: )
@@Ballpuncher Yeah, mabi's got insane potential with its combat system. I think the change in net code once we get Eternity will make a massive difference, but they definitely need to play test more. I beat that Astral Reave Dan 3 test... it's not fun and super imbalanced lmao.

It's almost like a nod to the old days of the game. Since we sorta relied on roles in dungeons if you were around or saw gameplay. But yeah, I hope it's not a disaster!
it's nice to hear the remixes and orchestrals and whatever else but personally i still like the original music a lot more in almost every case
though the piano remake of bright and clear sky is one of the few exceptions, that one was always held back a little by the vst and the new one is really emotional
I'm willing to bet there will be an option to switch between music versions like we have now from classic, to the orchestras, and then to the modern rendition. But, yeah, I am the same way with Tir music, graveyard, and the lobbies of dungeons, haha.
Yeah there should be a trade in system for weapons, like how you trade in your old car for a newer car with some cost.
I just don't know what they could do... When they announced new weapons, all it made me do was think of all the mats I need to make the weapon and the anxiety of rolls and special upgrade success. More so, you gotta reforge it and enchant it. It's so much gold and investment. I really don't want to do it haha

You mentioned a roles system like other mmorpgs. Well, the ROLL system is also from other mmorpgs if it's what I'm thinking about. Effectively, instead of the chest stuff where it's RNG per person per chest, in other mmos, if a rare item drops, everyone can roll on it.
Some times it's class restricted to where only that class can roll on it. So if it's a tank item, only tanks can roll. In some other games there's also a greed system where classes get priority, but others can still greed roll on it if the prior classes pass.
Example - Tank item - Tank rolls 1, greed player rolls 99. Tank gets it by default because they tank.
However, Tank passes - 0, Greed rolls 1, greed gets it because no tanks wanted the item.
I don't know if this is the system they're going to use, but if they guarantee drops, then people can RNG roll on it and whoever rolls the highest number wins the drop. That's my thoughts on what the roll system is. And based on the screenshot dice along with the numbers, it looks like that's what they're going for.
Which is not bad at all. That means eventually, if you keep running the dungeon, and if drops have a higher chance of dropping, you will eventually be able to get rare items without 0.000000001% fucking you up the ass.
Also blast lancer is literally gunlance from Monster hunter.
So xKamuna in the comments told me this, "The dice rolls are for players who wish to roll for who gets a specific reward, afaik. Similar to systems in other MMOs, you can also refuse to include yourself for the roll. The player that wants the item and has the highest roll gets the item." so pretty much what you're theorizing. Now, if they implement this for all viable content, I don't know how well that would work out, haha.

Not at all. I actually think a lot of people play this game for reasons other than combat and the music is undeniably well done. HanStone made a masterpiece with the Mabo soundtrack.

It's going to be a very fine line between what mabo is now and what it's shaping itself to be. It's going to be very interesting to see how it all pans out and how players will react!
I have been playing since 2014 and while I never played this game in its end-game, so maybe it never really did function this way in practice, something that I thought at least made Mabinogi unique was the *lack* of distinct roles. With the addition of Arcana it appears they are decidedly leaning away from that, and I am a bit sad about it. As I said however I never really played in the end-game and people fitting distinct roles may have already really been a thing even before Arcana. I will of course continue to enjoy the game regardless of what direction they go with it regarding classes/roles/etc. but again that's just how I feel about things as a casual person who has always had a more conceptual vs. practical view of the combat and character progression of Mabinogi.
Also as a returning player 10000000% agree we need some sort of weapon progression vs. replacement, I am absolutely struggling to get adequate gear and am TERRIFIED at what the costs for the newest weapons would be lol
You're def not alone in that mindset. Coming from someone who did endgame prior to arcana, the versatility of using everything was pretty demanding and we have to remember that's still there. It's just undermined by arcana now. Also, the cost of having multiple sets of gear made the level of entry to doing mid to endgame content was way way way too high. Arcana is the answer to that.
I think a better view point would be to look at arcana as a specialization and all your other talents to be the tools of the trade. But yeah, it's def different but I think we too have to act different with the changes in order to enjoy it.
But, your feelings are def validated

I ALSO did not consider the cost of getting multiple skillsets adequate weapons and how arcana solves that as well! Thank you for assuaging some of my fears :) I am really looking forward to getting both my DD and HS arcana but don't know which I will want to play yet! I have always loved magic music and wanted Cleric to be relevant so I think I am leaning HS, especially if healing becomes actually needed.

@@JemuzuDatsWho So the scythe talent is coming to NA which will give HS a decent offensive ability. So you would prob be scything for damage when you need it. I almost always feel like recommending DD to everyone starting out for how powerful it is. Like, you probably could solo techs with just a celtic staff and DD with a high link level. Guess we will just have to wait and see how scythe plays out. From what I see scythe is pretty crazy damage but a pain to rank

@@sou-kun5726 I know a ton of players from Australia. The beauty of the NA server is it's the international server so there's players all over the world playing in it. The game is def a social game. So, as long as you are cool, people will be cool to you.
As to where you should go, join the mabinogi discord and just start engaging with people maybe even just say you're new and want some friends. No doubt in my mind that you will get a lot of people contacting you.

I don't mind but here a problem. Early game content is completely different from end game where you all of a sudden need roles to be able to succeed. A single mistake = fail principle is so bad that is just discourages me.
@@lonexon I've been advocating a complete redo of early to mid game for years since the game does absolutely nothing to prepare you for later content. It's a syndrome of old mmos where old content is left behind as they continue to add new stuff. The main reason I'm so excited for a new engine is they have a chance to completely fix early and mid game experiences for a player; to rebalance everything.
Question is this coming with the eternity update? Does this mean eternity is in 2025 because we already had the other updates and from the graphics in the clips it seemed like something for eternity.
the new arcanas are already in test servers in KR so I'd assume they will be in NA sometime next year(2025). The new dungeon stuff, I don't know.
As for the new engine, a quarterly report from Nexon shows they are aiming for end of 2027. So, a ways off. They are literally building a new game at this point so it makes sense.
@Ballpuncher Reasonable enough, so all these current updates is essentially building up to eternity. So more by late 2027 it should be out then? Where did you find out about these "quarterly updates" according to nexon kr website the schedule hinted something about an engine overall within 21 years.

I would epic, if we get a reboot type, like ff14. We all mabi players ro join a final battle to protect erinn. To allow all npcs to transfer to the new erinn. Or something like that.

I feel the new Arcana looks a little lacking from what they've shown. First issue i have with the tank is the 'pushing' abilities would mess with team groupings. And that class will introduce a bunch of other buffs to keep up with. And the lance gun was SOOO lack luster with what they showed us. Like they showed us a really wanky dash skill that kinda already exists... In the Q&A there was a user who asked if they could share with us how far along the Eternity update was % wise, and the director said it's difficult to quantify it but they would continue to share more frequently on the work they've been doing (i don't believe this because they always say it but never show us enough).
I'm definitely not wanting them to rush but they just don't share enough for us to feel content! If they want the hype to stay alive they need to definitely share more with us on what they've been working on. Even if it's just simple screen shots!
I'm def going to reserve judgement until we know more. I know they delayed lance arcana for almost over a year to figure out what would work. So we may just be looking at old lance stuff and the vid didn't feel representative. So until I see actual skill info and demonstrations I am considering these in like alpha stage still, haha.
And the Eternity thing has a "deadline" of the end of 2027, so they are probably way too far out to even see the end. It's going to be a loooooonnnnnggggggg time trust me, haha. They probably don't want to show too much so early on since things are still in the early stages. Basically, I am taking everything they present as grains of salt since they needed to show something and it's a active development. What I mean is they are super busy trying to make this game not suck ass but also keep the charm of the game. It's a very fine line they gotta walk. I guess we just gotta wait!

Apparently these new weapons are going to be super good according to what the director said on stage. I feel like crom 100 is going to be dead now if nb ain't worth it. I also think nb needs to be way easier to make if we get these new weapons. I just feel like weapon progression isn't in a good spot right now.
