Definitely like to see tear downs, but even more I like to see and hear failure analysis, which you did here to a good extent. I appreciated hearing your observations of overheating which caused the visual clues you pointed out. Learned a lot from this video, Alex, so thanks a lot! More of the same with even more detailed analysis! 👍
Thanks for the teardown Alex. It doesn't take long to get a hundred dallors worth of parts off an engine. I like your challenge you came up with. I'm looking forward to your next video. I hope you have a good week.
Thank you!! Yes I’ll have plenty of good parts for a couple other kawasakis that I have here. I’m really excited to see how this series goes. We will have some fun. Hope you have a great one as well.
I have seen a few blown up engines but that one was super terrible! That video was very good! And now you have free parts you can use or sell it for money
I would get my local welder to weld an aluminium plate into or onto that engine to fill or cover up that hole then replace the piston, rings & both connecting rods as well as the wrist pin . It wouldn't be a $20 (scrap) engine anymore. I'd say that the engine over revved then the engine grenaded itself !
Good video, always like to tear apart to see the failure. A lot of good parts. Wasn't a Mississippi boy who made that hole repair, we would of used duct tape.....lol. Have a great day
Yes I was hoping we just had a broken rod, but it turned out so much more. Haha. That’s right, I’ve certainly used my fair share in a pinch. Thank you very much for stopping by.
I always like tearing engines apart to see what happened other than the mess. I raced cars for 30+ years so i have seen the inside of a few race engines! You got some good parts Alex, but it looks like regular oil changes and that engine would still be running. 😢 As Henry would say that engine is DONESKI! Im really looking forward to your flip series! Goodluck buddy! ✌🇺🇸
Thank you so much Roger. I’m really excited to put together the fix and flip series. First video will be up this next week. Yes it’s sad they let this one go, but I’ll make sure the parts go to good use. Haha. That’s funny because I texted Henry a video and told him it was doneski 🤣.
Check the governor shaft seal. That's where mine leaked oil. I called local cub cadet dealer and they had 6 of the seals in stock. I thought for sure it would be a random part that would need to be ordered, but they had 6 of them. Makes me think it's a common problem.
Yes most of the Kawasaki engines i have worked on had the governor shaft seal leaking. I think it’s a pretty common issue for these. This one had run low on oil and blown up before I got it.
@@freedommowers420 if there we to much air getting to it would that be a problem? the guy I got it from didn’t have a tank he used a gas can instead and it doesn’t have a cap or anything
Once the 11 Briggs I/C was the standard. Then Kawi showed up and stole the show. That was about 1987. If only an engine like this was available then. Oh...the work we could have done...
The Briggs flathead or L heads are great engines still to this day. Easy to service and hold up well with regular maintenance. Kawasaki does make a great engine though. Thank you for sharing your experience.
When I put my first Kawi 13.5s on my 3 Ransomes Bobcats that was a dream come true. My 48 became something else. And I can't describe what they did to my 2 "36"s".
@@williamcarl4200 I’m sure there was a night and day difference in the smoothness and power. Those bobcats were great machines. I had a gravely 36 walk behind belt drive with a 12.5 kawi on it. Ran like a dream. I believe it was a 1995 model.

Great work! I hope someday soon you can move into a bigger shop !
I’m trying to. I’m hoping to have my other shop finished in a couple months. It’s a struggle in this one.
Thank you for the video
Nice use of the puppy pee pad lol😊
You always catch the small details. I was really hoping to rebuild this one, but it was a bit too far gone. Hope things are good your way!!
Nice pull down Alex, but only spare parts you can use later on other jobs😊
The only question left is, how do you like your piston? Well done
Engine autopsies are so satisfying to watch. Weird.

Hey Alex I just got a mower going but it surges and I’ve cleaned the carb on it could you tell me why?
More than likely there is still an issue with the carb or could also be a lack of fuel getting to the carburetor

Hahah they just put jb weld over a rod through the block😂
That’s exactly what they did. I’m not sure what universe that would work. Like a band aide on a torn off limb 🤣🤣
68 today in West Texas and nice weather 😊
That sounds like some nice spring time vibes.
Wow, that is crazy. Cannot believe someone tried to patch that big of a hole with JB Weld?
I thought maybe a crack in the block but not a massive hole. I’m impressed they were even able to fill it. Crazy none the less.
@@freedommowers420 thank you for doing this tear down. I have a John Deere X350 with a Kawasaki motor. I watch you to help me keep mine running.

better head to harbor freight.. or is the machine even worth a new engine.

Just scrap it. Way to much damage to sink and money into!
