I got two push mowers from my neighbor/local scrapper the other day. One was a basic Murray, and the other was a Craftsman Gold Series self propelled. The Craftsman had so much grass buildup on the underside of the deck that the blade couldn't turn. That was all that was wrong with it. I had it running 30 mins after I brought it home. I cleaned it, put some gas in it, and it fired right up. The Murray has been sitting for a few years, but just needs a good carb clean. Not bad for free.
You are definitely correct about that PTO cable on those MTDs. It is usually zip tied in the bottom left hand hole on the rear of the mower. Someone probably installed that one incorrectly. That is likely why it broke.
Very nice Alex! You took quite a chance buying that sight unseen, but it all worked out in the end. With what all you do to make sure every machine is functional and reliable, you should have a good reputation in your area. That being said you shouldn't have to discount much. You always make them look as good as they can and that means alot to prospective customers! Thanks for another great video my friend!! 👍📽🇺🇲
I try to help the local scrapper by throwing him some extra money for tractors. This one deff needed a lot of little stuff. Seems like most people in my area have had good stuff to say about repairs. I really hope things are going well your way brother.
I mentioned that I recently got a free Murray push mower that needs a carb clean. It has the plastic carb, and it is in rough shape. It had some horrible gas in it. I cleaned it manually, but it is still not wanting to run. I usually have no problem getting those carbs to run, but this one is being a pain. I have never had to do multiple cleanings on one of them before. Is it safe to run those through an ultrasonic? I have never needed to before, but this mower is not worth enough to buy a new carb for it, since it also needs an air filter and blade.
Nice one, Alex! Pretty straightforward with no real surprises. I noticed one corner of the mowing deck was pushed in quite a bit. Have you seen that before or was that deck damaged somehow, and doesn’t that affect how much grass hangs up inside sometimes?
Thank you. Just had a fair amount of things that needed some love. Yes for some reason these decks on here have that flat spot. Not really sure the reasoning but it is factory. You would think you want it to be as smooth as it can to flow easily.
@@freedommowers420 Yeah, really! On the other hand, some decks come with baffles inside. I guess we’d have to be fluid mechanics engineers to understand how they decide what to make them. 😉
Great job but I am curious how are when it comes to transmissions on lawn tractors and zero turns? I'm also a subscriber to Kyle by the creek. I watched his latest episode today he did his first transmission job. He was great. I would like to see you do a transmission job in the future sometime. Thanks for great content.
Whats the difference in the intek 20-24 hp motors? is it just like a govenor thing or carb changes to make different power levels?. Just curious. Love your videos.
@@freedommowers420 I wonder if you could buy or get a carb spacer or throttle body that would give you different power levels... There's no way they changed anything costly in the maufacturing process of the motors block/major components. Maybe they were even governed to certain power levels to not challenge other higher priced models with the same motor.
@@joshmartinak4315 Oh come on now... The first two digits of the model... is the displacement. profit isn't always what we would like it to be. i have one (end of season) that unfortunately turned out upside down, which happens sometimes. Someone will get a great deal
For sure. They all can’t be money makers, but I do enjoy turning a mower back into a solid machine for someone to use and last at least a few more years.
I think the camera was making it sounds much louder than it is. Don’t get me wrong it has a little noise on that idler pulley but I had dumped enough money into this cheap machine.
I might make another series doing something similar. I sold the last mower on the series for $1800. I think I ended up making around $2500 total on the mowers.

I just love the sound of the blades running. It relaxes me, whenever I'm having a bad day I go home and get on the mower .
I get on mine and ride the fence line looking for holes the wild hogs make 😢😢😢
that's a very decent rider!

if you have no feeler gauge- use a piece of a pop can- I have been working on lawn equipment for over 65 years
Great tip! Thank you very much.
Great job. Thank you for saving this mower from the dump. Wish i had your knowledge.
Thank you very much for the support!!!
Love the channel thanks for all the great lawnmower videos. I learned to work on mowers from my dad! He would really be impressed with what you do.
Thank you very much for the support. I enjoy working on all kinds of stuff but it seems like everyone really enjoys the riding mowers.

Looks like a winner 😊
Thank you. I turned out pretty decent considering it needed quite a bit of love.
Hey Alex very good explanation of everything I love it keep up the good video..
Thank you. I’m trying to make the videos a little longer to explain and show repairs a little better. I greatly appreciate the support 😎😎
That is a good looking tractor and sounds awesome thank you for the video
Great fix by the way.
Thank you. This one had a laundry list of repairs.
Definitely thumbs up nice tractor thank you for the video
hey hey hey ....good to see ya fella
Hey hey. I’m trying to get content out to everyone. The struggle is real. Thanks for the support 😎😎
Murray had the best seats on there mowers and dam I really miss them 😢😢😢
Great video bud. i hope you made it through the storm ok
Thank you. Yes we did just fine during this storm. Keeping our eyes peeled for the rest of this season. Western NC is in really bad shape.
Excellent video…very informative
Thank you for the constant support 💪💪
Great videos please keep up great work
It's got the good ole Failtek, lol. They've got a bad rep, but I've always had good luck with them.
Loving this long for content. I can watch longer qt work. Thanks man
Glad I can help haha. I do like making the longer format videos. Easier for me to explain and show all the repairs these machines take.
Nice job. 400 is a really fair price.
If it had a bit less surface rust and bubbling I would have certainly asked about 5-550. Thank you for stopping by.

Alex those red fuel shutoff valve you have to go by model number and serial number to order one

Great video and definitely gave you a thumbs up for that one. That was a lot of work Scrapping With Grandpa what’s next?
Thank you. I was trying to help out the local kid that does scrap but this one wasn’t a quick fix. Hope you are doing well my friend.
Pretty cool
If I took apart, that carburetor like you did, it would never run again. I am definitely not mechanically inclined.
Where do you find bearings for the towers
Alex, Looks like you have something to work with. How many scrappers do you have on the ready.?
You would be a good auctioneer 😊
Usually people says I sound like mr rogers.
You should be able to get $450 for that one. It is definitely worth that much.
Excited for the john deere project
I am too. I’ve got quite a few here that need revivals.
Murray select mowers used to be black back in the day when they were sold at home Depot
I’ve had a few of the older Murray’s all black. I wonder if they thought red would sell better.
@@freedommowers420 that is a great question Murray also made a Murray ultra that was green

I didn’t know they had a fuse down there
As many deck bearings as you replace, you should probably get a bulk box. I bet they're way cheaper if you order 100 at a time.

Fuel filters on backwards
@@robert953 yes I saw the previous owner had it on backwards. Thank you.
An illuminated fuse indicates a blown fuse. A sign somebody has been there before because only the aftermarket produces those fuses.

I don’t like the tires on it , they get a lot of stickers and stay flat 😢😢😢
Might as well put hd tubes in 😮
compression release is on exhaust not intake
On a kohler courage it’s ok the exhaust. The intek Briggs it’s on the intake.
