Thanks for this video. I have looked at 25 pictures and at least 10 videos, but you are the first to show where the linkage hooked on the back side. Thanks again

You sir are an absolute life saver! Thank you so much for showing that because those diagrams are absolutely not helpful in the service manual for where that governor spring attaches to the plate, and my engine had a bent up piece of coat hanger wire for a choke arm that wasn’t working properly from someone else’s repairs and this made installing the new Kawasaki part stupid easy. My engine blew a head gasket and I was told to buy a new ZT mower and quoted over $1200 for repair and it was less than $50 in parts to replace both head gaskets; adjust all the valves and rebuild it myself in a few hours time. Just a little mechanical know how and a few hours of work. Thank you again for giving me the final piece to getting it back together. Even with photos I took during disassembly I was having issues with being confident where the springs went back behind that plate.

Have an FH641V in a 48” Ferris ZTR that developed a governor shaft seal leak.
It finally started leaking pretty bad making for a mess so I needed to repair It which I did. The only problem was: where did the choke lever go and how to reset the governor on the thing? This video did the trick, and I had it back in service quickly. A big THANK YOU for this video!!!

Sir, i want to thank you for this video. Like you my son acquired a mower with a kawasaki fh721v engine that was partially disassembled. The throttle rod and choke rod were missing as well as the 2 springs. Your video was instrumental in getting this engine back running, and i just wanted to say thank you. One of my main problems was I had the fuel solenoid facing the engine which was in the way of the choke rod. When i saw your video i noticed it facing the rear! Great Video!!

Thanks, my mower was suffering from low skilled repairs. This was very helpful in getting it back to original shape. I will say it is also helpful to see how to set the RPMs with PTO engaged. I have figured that out by other videos.

Great Video, I have been fooling with this problem of not getting full RPM, saw that I didn't have enough pull on the governor spring; had not noticed the slotted plate but now i see my problem and will try raising it up and see if that takes care of it. Thanks for such a great gift!!!

Just a note ; I think the slot at 6:55 is to set the governor spring tension "that is the top RPM" rather than bending the spring tab! I am embarrassed that I didn't see this at first. WE just live and learn don't we????

Perfect! Thank You! Same motor as my 717A and Z445. The 717A threw a rod thru the case so I've been using it for quick parts. Switched the carb last year because the plastic needle valve was warped, from too much heat I assume, and would stick shut. This year it got to where it won't start for a way long time where I ended up ruining the solenoid and probably the starter trying to start it, even with gas or ether in the carb but both times I checked the easier spark plug was dry as a bone. I thought it would be soaked with all the ether and fuel I used. Anyway I noticed so far that thin wire hook was off and I think the throttle too. The throttle is staying on full. The choke seems to close but it's hard to pull on. I wasn't sure if I had that thin wire hook attached right or what it's for and not sure why the throttle came off.

Thanks for this video. I've been trying to find the solution to a recent issue I am having with my Kawasaki FR730V which is on my Husqvarna tractor model GTH24K54. First I will say that the engine has about 730 hours on it and is just shy of 10 years old. Yesterday, the throttle would not go to full power nor would it drop down to idle . it looks like all the parts are moving, arms, springs, etc. but it just continues to run at idle with very high rpms and will not max out as it has in the past, which is needed when the grass is as high as it has gotten these past few weeks. I'm desperately searching for suggestions. I'm certainly not an small engine mechanic but i have done all the servicing on this tractor for the past 10 years and I'm hoping this is something that I can tackle without too much hassle. I will add that the heat shield for the muffle pipe cracked and half of it has fallen off (into the abys I guess). I have ordered a replacement for that. I mention this because I have read that heat may have an impact considering the throttle mechanism is right above it. Thanks! look forward to any/all suggestions.

Thanks so much. My 08, john deere x320 fh661v engine carb linkage fell off when I just had to replace the crankshaft from the pto clutch bolt breaking off inside. Tried everything to get the bolt out and then the ez out broke off far inside and could not get that out. Wish I had the newer valve tapped adjusters as these old original ones are almost impossible to set the valves. Just waiting for a new bottom case gasket because with gasket sealer it is not enough of a shim and the crank lock's up in the case and won't turn. Why would a pto clutch bolt just decided after 13 years to snap off? I was really worried about this linkage, but I asked my local john Deere dealer for a schematic of how it all connects. Hope I got it correct now. Thanks. 😁

Thanks for the great video. I have a Scag Zero turn powered by a Kawasaki FX730V. The governor shaft seal was leaking. I replaced the rubber seal. When I reapplied the linkage on the shaft I attempted to put it back as it was originally. The engine runs great while cutting but when I return the control arms to stop position the engine has a tendency to increase the RPM's; making me think the gov isn't adjusted correctly. (but I didn't disassemble or readjust the gov.) I attempted to relocate the gov. plate onto the flat spot of the shaft. Any ideas? Tim C.

What are the signs of a Gov being broken? I had to adjust mine the opposite of your directions to keep it from just running away. I turned my Gov shaft clockwise and throttle closed, then tightened. That at least lets me adjust the throttle, but if I go over 1/2 throttle it really lets loose and I have to be careful to keep it under 4000rpm (4500 rpm sounds scary!!).

Hi, I just rebuilt a Kawa Fr691 and It's my first time attempting this so I'm pretty green. I literally have idle and wide open and I've tried to adjust the linkage a few times. I have stumbled upon some info saying the flag might not have been set right in the sump when I reassembled so before I pulled the engine back apart I wanted to see if there was something I was missing. Currently my governor arm only stops about 1 inch from contacting the carb when I move it up after removing the linkage/rods/Springs. Just looking for general info if possible, should I be able to move that governor arm that high, I replaced the piston arms, and cam shaft on this mower originally fyi, and I did not pay attention to how the governor was set in anyway when reassembling.

    • @mbakken11
      @mbakken11  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry, I have no idea. You can sometimes find generic plug sets online and you just have to find the one that fits. Measure the diameter of the hole and search taht way (ie 4mm welch plug)

    • @dongulley3225

Know it's an old post, BUT, the welch plugs are just to keep out gunk from getting down into the high and low mixture adjustment screws, put a little grease down into them and then silicone over.

    Second question:
You mentioned that these are bad, about blowing head gaskets. Will a retorque, of the head bolts help? Normally, on a rebuild, you want to do a retorque, after so many hours. On a new engine, this usually never happens. And, since this is an aircooled engine, there will be a lot of expansion/contraction, of dissimilar metals.
VW's were usually retorqued at 500, or 1000 miles, if memory serves me right.
    Thanks!

Not sure a re torque would help. Once that graphoil material let's loose and a leak path is created you can't fix it. There a small gap between the combustion chamber and the oil return which is where they go bad. Briggs isn't much better, but for some reason they don't blow gaskets as much

My governor spring is holding my throttle open after disassembly and reassembly of the carb. I did not touch the throttle plate

Did you get all the springs and rods back into the proper holes? Being off just a little will throw everything off

I have a FH680V My flywheel/starter wheel keeps coming loose, if I tighten the bolt too much the motor doesnt turn. everytime I start the engine the bolt comes loose. I really dont understand why Kawasaki Didn't put the bolt reverse thread. Any tips or tricks on how to do this? Thanks

ENDURO WISCONSIN are you sure all the parts are assembled correctly? The flywheel to crank interface is a taper fit and you shouldn't be able to drive the wheel down far enough to hit anything. Is it rubbing on the block, stator, or coil packs? What prevents it from turning when you tighten it down?

The plastic cooling fins are rubbing on the outer plastic housing

Where does the throttle spring attach up at the carburetor?

I believe in the same hole as the rod. Not totally sure.

Thank you for recording this for posterity! I inherited a zero turn with the FH680V that's obviously had some work done on it - I've been poring through Kawasaki service manuals but the poor diagrams only show so much. This is very helpful.
Only question I have is that my throttle does not seem to want to hit the idle stop - it's either loose with some movement if I have the throttle down, and tightly open with no movement when it's open. Is that common?

Is what you're describing while it's running or off?
