Then all of a sudden, twenty gallons of water hits them and they are getting airborne, hanging on for dear life. Surprise surprise. The skipper didn't know it was coming?

Have ridden the 205, 255 w/twin 225 and a 340 - All are underrated besides center consoles Whalers. (I’ve ridden most of those too) Judging from my experience, watching you I’d have slightly more trim to lift the bow a little more - but it seems like you had the right throttle control to lift the bow - well done!

I navigated a lot against waves and kept my trim tabs all the way down to keep the bow down ..... you cut thru the waves. Remember this is the 235, not the 23, so it has the deep-V Accutrack hull.

I never use trim tabs (well my own boats don’t have) except for levelling sideways - or help get up in plane with a loaded vessel. Every trim otherwise is done with engine trim - high on flat calm sea, more moderate in rough sea. I know Boston Whaler tell you to split the sea with the bow - but as seen - not every Whaler is like the old ones or even like the Conquests.. Having worked with Whaler a while back, I know they’re advising such, but this isn’t always advisable. It really depends on the hull, and the conditions.

They just crossed 55 miles from Bimini in 4 ft seas. They had lots of practice for the last 2 hours. I did the same crossing just ahead of them. I came in right behind the quad SeeVee but didn’t make the cut.
Boston Whaler: 1st rate pass. Professional class. 100% under control. Small boat vs big waves, and he "owned" it. I'd feel secure as a passenger with him at the helm.

The Robalo twin yamaha actually did real good slowing down and riding the wave a couple of times and then speeding up when necessary. Of course, he was coming in and not going out.
Outboards hanging out the back really mess with the center of gravity. My Carolina sportfisher with twin onboard diesels does not react like that to chop. I’m not saying it’s always perfectly smooth but coming out of Oregon gets just as tough and it’s just a Byers ride with the weight more centralized. To each their own Cheers

Are the people in the bow, the boat type with open bow or both referred to as "BOW RIDERS" ? We in germany mean with "BOW RIDER" only the boats, boats with an open nose. Instead of "OPEN BOW" you can also say "DEPTH RUDDER".

Zero boating experience here but the captain seemed to leave himself at the mercy do the waves by simply idling thru the inlet. Seems like a bit more speed could have helped. 🤷
