Only the one shop after leaving St Bees but it is famous for it's pies!!! Not sure how you got lost as you only need to follow the forestry road through the woods. I live Whitehaven so this is my day to day walking area. The other side of Ennerdale is much easier walking - paths and forestry roads. Best part about Ennerdale is that with no road round and being on the western edge of the lakes, there's very few visitors. I'm doing the C2C in a week or so - taking the easy option - hotels, luggage transfers, organised walking group, guide etc.
A great watch , watch a bit out of order , the pot noodle storage idea I was thinking just that , great that you can take your time and enjoy
