I think the turtle AI is something like " if Ally HP < 20% then use mega heal", but without checking if the ally is KO or not. Thus, with a 0% HP ally in the party, it triggers the turtle to use Mega Heal every turns.
Okuwamon is basically needed on speedrun due to its effect, interruption attacks ignores confusion status, the skill friendly fire clears all negative status effects, p-sukamon have a confusion fx effect that can be applied to team wide attacks, hung on death not only revives a fallen ally but will also full recover hp while making it immune to damage during that turn if used on a living ally (3 effects for 1 move, the green skull was supposed to be a minor defense debuff like -10% but idk), venom infusion freezes your game when used (i guess bc it wont work on bosses you were able to use and dont break your game appart but also does nothing so... yeah) and ffs buy tires xD haha.

Venom Infusion cancels the move it interrupts. It's one of the best interruptors in the entire game that is invaluable in GAIA fight. And if your game freezes whenever - guys, spend at least SOME time actually tuning your emulators, will you? It's not that hard. I had this game running perfectly on my barely alive laptop, and you get freezes on top-grade machines? Really?
Yeah I figured that out pretty late 😅. One of the consequences of not looking these things up beforehand, but I intentionally didn't do that to get the proper DW 2 experience 😇.
I really like this long-form, "abbreviated playthrough" style commentary. You did a great job on these videos in particular. I know it's a lot. A lot of editing work. But it paid off!
About Cecilia fight: Right before this fight you get a trade open for Metal Garurumon, who knows Venom Infusion - an interrupt that does no damage, but completely cancels whatever tech it interrupted. Using him you can out both revivalists on her team, just take down one and keep canceling the other. Also her MagnaDramon CAN fire mass recovery whenever he want, you just got lucky on your fight. Usually he'll fire mass rec when he goes below half HP and can easily undo your entire team's effort.
Definitely interested in watching you take on Tera Domain. I actually finished the game years ago, but I couldn't bring myself to grind though 99 floors after finishing the story. And, yeah, Okuwamon was MVP. I DNA Digivolved him to GrandKuwagamon and he remained a staple of my team for the rest of the game. For future challenge runs, maybe the other Digimon World games? I have fond memories of 3, despite the admittedly obnoxious back-tracking (it's amazing how many old games had no fast travel), but I could never finish DW1, nor did I play any of the others except for Sunburst/Moonlight.

One thing to note about this game is that you shouldn't expect it to be a regular Digimon game. This is a dungeon crawler through and through. In fact, many games in this genre have even more hardcore dungeon design. A dungeon crawler is, for lack of better terms, the 'Dark Souls' of turn-based RPGs.
To be honest, I also went to fight Cecilia with a team of two wild digimon "ExTyrannomon + MarineDevimon". I did have my gimped GrandKuwagamon to carry the team. I lost initially, but one thing to consider for this kind of run that narrowly edged me victory the second round was MarineDevimon's attack "Evil Wind". In your final group composition, MagnaAngemon was lagging behind with the speed. Not that its by no means a better option for Okuwamon or Magnadramon, but MarineDevimon's attack is a party wide hit that lowers the opposition's speed similar to how Okuwamon's attack lowers defense. He was a pain to befriend as he moves two spaces. I just loved his appearance and refused to dna digivolve as I didn't really understand how or what to properly digivolve to get him "Syakomon with 3 or 4 dp into Gesomon". I knew Jinjimon had a resurrect, but was shocked to learn that MarineAngemon had a revive as well and Magnadramon had a full heal. My team wiped them all out at the same time by coincidence as my team used all aoe skills, so I never saw this interaction. I have to add its so funny you had issues with Tortamon spamming that heal assist with the one bloodknight encounter. I never had this issue, but I remember clear as yesterday watching my brother run into this exact scenario in his playthrough. He nearly broke the controller cause he couldn't get around that Tortamon spamming that heal every turn. He had a descent team, but since he focused on Vaccine digimon, he was lacking some firepower to just nuke it. I love seeing digimon world 2 challenge runs in my feed randomly.
36:03 chaos lord is so sad to me, it’s the debut of Chaosdramon, albeit before it became all red like it is nowadays, and it’s just ignored in the history of the franchise, it should get a model kit or toy or be a weaker/stronger variant of Chaosdramon or something
Very interesting how barebones this game could be. Its also interesting how useful many of those traded Digimon are. I think by a certain point in the game DNA Digivoling would be less of a chore when you encounter wild Mega evolutions lol.
If I had to rank the Digimon World games I've played, I would say : 1. Digimon World: Next Order 2. Digimon World 1 3. Digimon World 2 Digimon World: Next Order was basically a remake of the first one, but without all things that were irritating. A couple of friends didn't even finished the game because they thought that it was way too hard haha! I really like that game. Finally a game that was actually hard. I won't even rank Digimon World 4, since it's absolutely not a digimon world game.
I might be wrong since I never played Next Order but I don't feel it is as good as Digimon World 1 and it's not because of nostalgia. Digimon World 1 had a cozy and lost in the wilderness vibe, it is only you and danger wandering the maps, ambiental soundtracks to make you feel even more lost in the jungle, but Next Order feels more like a Cyber Sleuth in Digital World. This change of feeling is exactly why I didn't like Re:Digitize as much, it was just your run-of-the-mill quest story, while Digimon World 1 felt more like a wandering the wilderness kinda of vibe, like the Digimon Adventure anime. Digimon World 3 had a mix of both feelings and that's why I love it so much. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Next Order is bad, but it and DMW1 are very different despite same mechanics.

Excellent video, around 2 years ago i decided to replay back Digimon world 1, as per childhood, once i finished i thought, do i want to play World 2 again?... answer was no, so i went to the third. Back when i played i beat it, but it was so so grindy, so annoying, so long and slow, besides i got really fed up, got a Deramon that got one level short of mega phase and didnt want to DNA again, but a SaberLeomon that was one level short of learning the mega skill and a weregarurumon, i ended up with the strategy of guard for mp, attack, heal, guard, it was tedious until the end but i feel it was shorter than grinding a digimon back to mega. A nice memory, not sure i'd play it again, so my respects.
with the fight around 7:00 the turtle heal ai doesnt sound like a glitch it SPAMMING the heals does digital devil saga 1 has a fight with a jack frost and a pyro jack. where the jack frost starts healing if it ever goes too low of hp, but it doesnt care for his partner at all.
Shogun Gekomon's Musical Fist only heals enemy's vaccine type digimon. Neat bug, unlike Venom Infusion or Giga Scissors Claw which are useless for boss fights.
Man DW2 is my favorite digimon game, probably a weird opinion, but I think this games structure and th DNA digivolution system, the ring maps would be perfect for an MMO setting. I like MMOs where it's harder to level than modern MMOs, it's so cool to see a higher level player and when they become your friend for even a moment? Man I love it. if you see a high level person in FFxiv for instance, you know they button mashed through story and got their character to Max for free basically. Digimon world 2s system, making it a challenge to level and get your digimon in a multiplayer setting, insentivising you through coop and having team battles or battling against other players wouldn't go so hard. To bad the digimon MMO we have is a Wierd....weird... WoW clone, ripe with monotization.

Loved this challenge and how much effort you put into it. I have never played this game or even got into Digimon at all, but I was still able to follow everything perfectly. I vaguely remember renting Digimon World 3 as a kid, but I was completely lost on the mechanics and I got stuck pretty fast. The Chaos variants are just end of Digimon Adventure reskins. They won and humanity ends up in the digital world and flees. For what? As for that mystery digimon. Maybe Jiji is in the one of the non-file island dungeons.
Just to know The Cecilia Fight is not a boss fight... if you use Platinum-Sukamon Assist skill on a AoE Attack of your team You start doing 100% chance of Confusion on entire enemy line
13:29 This trick right here is something that I used to do as a kid from the very moment I got MagnaAngemon for EVERY SINGLE FIGHT. Needless to say, it made battles take at least 5 business days to finish, and it made me quit the game
Yes, it's possible with catching mega level digimon and buying a lot of revive disks and weapons. Did it on PSX, only because I couldn't figure out how to pass this 9999999999 and I had a crappy translated version. Now I can play in English and I still love DW2 as a game and story wise, but will never grind there again. I will replay the game only with cheats for the story, I don't have time for repetitive grinding anymore.
If going with cheats or Mods, I'd go with the infinite BITs cheat to narrow down the unnecessary grinding! The game isn't nearly as bad with the BIT grinding nonsense out of the way, as you won't be at the mercy of domain traps!

Bro... You should have bought the "tires", each level makes you immune to a new color of the acid pools... Up to this point where you were dying because of the "level designer" you should be at least immune to blue acid pools :(
I wouldn't feel bad about the tires, this game doesn't appear to tell the player anything and there's very little in terms of logical progression. In a normal progression curve, you'd have those acid pools earlier and introduce the tires in the next round of new shop upgrades afterwards, and then sprinkle them around the next series of missions to remind the player its there. Then again, in a normal game you wouldn't *have* a hallway full of damaging tiles that can only be beaten by buying a specific tire.
Every now and again I get the urge to replay DW2. But I play it on emulator and I use xp cheat codes. I finished the game in my childhood on PS1 and I DO NOT want to go through all the grinding all over again.
I feel like the opponents should have also had mp but it was ditched in development... just with demi devimons attack and also fights like infinite heal / revive

I watched knowing it was possible to beat the game already without DNA digivolve because thats how I play it. DNA digivolve was such a stupid system to get what you actually wanted it was just simpler to just catch the wild digimon you wanted instead.
Magnadramon and Okuwamon really carried. Why not try a Champion only run? At least you'll get to do DNA digivolution this time. Added challenge as well to use no items during battle. You can set level caps if you want to as well.
I really love digimon world 2 compared to 1 and 3, it's no joke the entire reason i like mystery dungeon games. digimon world 3 is probably my least favorite, the backtrack the game has is really boring and the random encounter is way too many with how long the battle starts. digimon world 2 has some negative too tho, the grinding is ass, piyotte quest suck. i caught penguinmon to evolve it to ikkakumon, birdramon is to difficult to gift and need more gift since they are a champion digimon, same as tankmon for kim just caught a candlemon and evolve it. i always start with black sword because you can catch kunemon very early in the game and evolve it for kuwagamon scissor claw. 3 digimon with scissor claw is mandatory for my team lol. after that 3 digimon with duoscissor claw and metalmamemon/princemamemon counter move could decimate any battle in 2 to 3 turn. not gonna lie this video is very fun to watch for someone that actually like this game. keep up the good work man!
Blaming map design when you're the one not upgrading your Digi-Beetle. Instead of buying tires to avoid acid swamp the first thing you thought of was to upgrade HP. What???????

It isn't localized name, the japanese version called it chaos lord too. Its official debut in digimon was in 2002, 2 years after digimon world 2. But you can say that Chaos Lord was indeed a prototype soon to be Chaosdramon. It's just like how Craniummon was once a boss Mecha Rogue X (1st form) in digimon world 4/x and had official debut a year after that
R u sure ur a gamer? Why not set it up where u attack 2 guys on ikkakumon then 1 on the spiky turtle. Then when he goes to heal ikkakumon go for the kill on spiky turtle. Unless u killed ikkakumon already then ya u soft locked the game. But if u had ikkakumon it was a matter of time where u could attack both and he would switch from healing himself to ikkakumon. Js.

in the battle against Gaia, your Metalgarurumon was weak as it is data type while all parts of Gaia are virus type

Can you do digimon world 3 next?
Loved this challenge and how much effort you put into it. I have never played this game or even got into Digimon at all, but I was still able to follow everything perfectly. I vaguely remember renting Digimon World 3 as a kid, but I was completely lost on the mechanics and I got stuck pretty fast. I'm thinking about giving both of these games a try soon thanks to these videos. Subscribed and I'll be watching your other videos as well. Your pivot away from gacha games was a good move, I can tell you that much.

Digimon World 2 Alternative Mod is for you....but if you hate yourself do Digimon World 2 Hardmod Romhack....Its a nightmare....if you blink the first boss, yes the Leomon super team will get you...Hugarmon the rookie first boss is easy? No no no,,,you will suffer!
In short Alternative Mod is for sane people with reasonable difficulty.
Hardmod is created by a Sadist Masochist insanely chaotically evil person...
You need all the beetle upgrade that you can get for Tera Domain.
The number of traps are crazy there.
It's kinda weird how this game didn't get its dungeon crawling refined when the OG Mystery Dungeon games were a thing since 1993.
why didnt you buy better wheels to be immune to the acid floor? surely by 30:00 you can be immune to purple acid, and maybe red acid but im unsure about that.

The Chaos variants are just end of Digimon Adventure reskins. They won and humanity ends up in the digital world and flees. For what?
As for that mystery digimon. Maybe Jiji is in the one of the non-file island dungeons.

This trick right here is something that I used to do as a kid from the very moment I got MagnaAngemon for EVERY SINGLE FIGHT.
Needless to say, it made battles take at least 5 business days to finish, and it made me quit the game
Yes, it's possible with catching mega level digimon and buying a lot of revive disks and weapons.
Did it on PSX, only because I couldn't figure out how to pass this 9999999999 and I had a crappy translated version. Now I can play in English and I still love DW2 as a game and story wise, but will never grind there again. I will replay the game only with cheats for the story, I don't have time for repetitive grinding anymore.
If going with cheats or Mods, I'd go with the infinite BITs cheat to narrow down the unnecessary grinding!
The game isn't nearly as bad with the BIT grinding nonsense out of the way, as you won't be at the mercy of domain traps!
I remember exploiting my Icedevimon to death until I discovered the DNA evolution just by coincidence.

Bro... You should have bought the "tires", each level makes you immune to a new color of the acid pools... Up to this point where you were dying because of the "level designer" you should be at least immune to blue acid pools :(
I wouldn't feel bad about the tires, this game doesn't appear to tell the player anything and there's very little in terms of logical progression. In a normal progression curve, you'd have those acid pools earlier and introduce the tires in the next round of new shop upgrades afterwards, and then sprinkle them around the next series of missions to remind the player its there.
Then again, in a normal game you wouldn't *have* a hallway full of damaging tiles that can only be beaten by buying a specific tire.
Every now and again I get the urge to replay DW2. But I play it on emulator and I use xp cheat codes. I finished the game in my childhood on PS1 and I DO NOT want to go through all the grinding all over again.
To this day, nothing causes me greater Digimon related grief than English speakers calling Vamdemon Myotismon.

I finished this game like 5 times when I was a kid without knowing English...... it wasn't that hard or annoying to be honest i even went back to finish it 2 more times 4 years ago

I watched knowing it was possible to beat the game already without DNA digivolve because thats how I play it. DNA digivolve was such a stupid system to get what you actually wanted it was just simpler to just catch the wild digimon you wanted instead.
Magnadramon and Okuwamon really carried. Why not try a Champion only run? At least you'll get to do DNA digivolution this time. Added challenge as well to use no items during battle. You can set level caps if you want to as well.

I really love digimon world 2 compared to 1 and 3, it's no joke the entire reason i like mystery dungeon games. digimon world 3 is probably my least favorite, the backtrack the game has is really boring and the random encounter is way too many with how long the battle starts. digimon world 2 has some negative too tho, the grinding is ass, piyotte quest suck. i caught penguinmon to evolve it to ikkakumon, birdramon is to difficult to gift and need more gift since they are a champion digimon, same as tankmon for kim just caught a candlemon and evolve it. i always start with black sword because you can catch kunemon very early in the game and evolve it for kuwagamon scissor claw. 3 digimon with scissor claw is mandatory for my team lol. after that 3 digimon with duoscissor claw and metalmamemon/princemamemon counter move could decimate any battle in 2 to 3 turn. not gonna lie this video is very fun to watch for someone that actually like this game. keep up the good work man!

It isn't localized name, the japanese version called it chaos lord too. Its official debut in digimon was in 2002, 2 years after digimon world 2. But you can say that Chaos Lord was indeed a prototype soon to be Chaosdramon. It's just like how Craniummon was once a boss Mecha Rogue X (1st form) in digimon world 4/x and had official debut a year after that
R u sure ur a gamer? Why not set it up where u attack 2 guys on ikkakumon then 1 on the spiky turtle. Then when he goes to heal ikkakumon go for the kill on spiky turtle. Unless u killed ikkakumon already then ya u soft locked the game. But if u had ikkakumon it was a matter of time where u could attack both and he would switch from healing himself to ikkakumon. Js.
