The power amp sim can sound good when you use certain cabs and mics. I am using the 6L6 power amp together with 4x10 Baseman, MD421 and some post EQ to get some great Dimebag Darrell sounds.
I'm absolutely in love with the Radar, it's pretty much the only way I record now. How I have mine set up is I run a tube amp (usually an Epiphone Valve Jr or Bugera G5, I live on cheap gear lol) through a Weber Mini Mass attenuator (still connected to a speaker, but with the attenuation all the way down) and use it as a "load box," since a used one was cheaper than any reactive load box I could find. Then I send the line out from the mini-mass to the radar. My favorite so far has been the "Citrus 4x12" model that came stock, I don't know why, but it just always sounds awesome.
I would say that the power amp section is more useful for ultra high gain sounds especially if you are using this device to add power amp simulation to a solid state rig. Which brings me to my next point. If you are running this into a cab make sure you turn the cab sim off or it will cover your real cabs sound. The result is not pleasant. But aside from those two things it is an amazing and very useful tool. I used this with a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe Overdrive, a Mooer Baby Bomb, 4x12 Marshall cab with V30s and it sounded fantastic. I had dedicated tube amp snobs ask me where I was hiding my head at lol. It sounded like a real rig next to a stage full of Mesas, Marshalls, and Peaveys. None of my musician buddies could tell it was a fully solid state rig with digital tube PA simulation. My buddy has a VERY expensive Driftwood head and Mesa 4x12. I took this same rig but with a Peavey PA head instead of the Baby Bomb to jam with him at his house. He knows I'm a tube amp guy so he was skeptical to say the least when I started setting it up. The skepticism melted away as we started to jam. It sounded fantastic next to his rig that cost about 6 or 7 times more than this setup. He just kept laughing and shaking his head. "I can't believe that thing sounds so good next to mine" he kept saying. Don't get me wrong, there was a difference in sound but you couldn't really say one was better than the other. They were just a bit different. So anyway, this thing is killer. I highly recommend it. And you can get them for under $100 used.
Damn straight it is! Jack the input on a EL34 and it distorts like a JCM 800. Most realistic power tube sim i've ever found. And I have 6L6 and EL84 poweramps.
@@SuperGuitar38 Thats a feature that just made me order a Radar. Recorded a lot with external preamp and impulse responses in my DAW, but want the coloring of a power amp too. I´m excited to get my hands on this!
See, when you use Mooer Radar software and you assign a cabinet to a distortion or high gain channel from your 500X, , if you have a clean tone in the next bank , how do you assign a clean cabinet to that ??? because when I look into the mooer software it is still using the 4X12 that I assigned to the high gain channel ? how do you do it so when you go into the clean bank it also changes on the mooer radar so you have a for example 2x12 cabinet ? greatly appreciate your input folks. cheers.
Lou, this was one of the most informative videos I've seen on this product. I took your advice, and along with a SansAmp VT Bass pedal preamp, I now have a perfectly portable rig. Thanks, man.
Thanks I was interested in this pedal but in all demos I saw the sound had a huge amount of low end and as you said in the video taking the 450hz should work and it the mooer micro dual Cali I wanted like a crunchy sound and not a muddy full of bass and low end with the radar
I’m having issues getting my computers to detect the mooer. Few days back I was able to connect and update the firmware but now it’s not connecting to the computer. I’ve tried different ports on the computers and multiple cables . Any suggestions?
There is a bit of high frequencies that come out of my radar. Thats why I use a short cabel from the radar into a passive palmer di box under my pedal board and push the ground switch on. than its fine and i can use a balanced xlr-cable output too.
Great advises! i am playing mooer 5153 preamp to radar to mixer to focus studio speakers; and there is loud hum or white noise. Andy advise? Could am i doing something wrong? thanks!!
#1 and #3....are the first things you do for ANYTHING. Make sure of latest update. AND Keep things simple...get the best sound at every stage before adding more.
I guess it can, but the radar is a pedal you have to play around a bit, to get real good sounds out of it. And to replace a real cab, you also need a DI Box to connect the radar directly to FOH...because the radar does not have a balanced output
hi man great video...could you tell me if I can connect the radar to a pod x3 pro and also to an eleven rack which is my audio interface as well and if so how would I wire them all...thanks
Can someone help me with the last step? The DAW I'm using is Reaper, but I don't quite actually get where you said to set the settings in DAW to "Current" TIA
Good info here! Actual video starts at 4:05.

Good tips here. I just found a used one for $80 at GC and it's going to replace my Mooer Audiofile. Thanks for the video man!
You couldn’t be more wrong about the power amp sim. It’s pretty usable.

Agreed. Even on the Ge200 it adds a good bit of color for certain tones I like.
Yes and about the EQ as well. I found that using the PA section with the EQ section gave me access to endless amazing tones.
Just ordered one, thank you for the tips!

Thanks for making this video. It really answered a lot of my questions I had on this device.
I read that as "LOUD-Dini", but it still works...
Thanks I was interested in this pedal but in all demos I saw the sound had a huge amount of low end and as you said in the video taking the 450hz should work and it the mooer micro dual Cali I wanted like a crunchy sound and not a muddy full of bass and low end with the radar
I don't have mics , can I record my carvin v3 head with mooer radar? And does it sound will be natural?
I’m having issues getting my computers to detect the mooer. Few days back I was able to connect and update the firmware but now it’s not connecting to the computer. I’ve tried different ports on the computers and multiple cables . Any suggestions?
hello...mine has bad hiss noise when Cab sim ON, and no noise when bypass...tried different solving solutions.
Does yours have the same hiss noise?
Hi! I saw some guy using a micro terror phones output to the radar. What do you think about that?
Is there any hiss or hum coming (as some people say) from Radar itself?
There is a bit of high frequencies that come out of my radar. Thats why I use a short cabel from the radar into a passive palmer di box under my pedal board and push the ground switch on. than its fine and i can use a balanced xlr-cable output too.
i have the hiss noise problem when Cab sim is ON, and no noise in Bypass mode.... whats should be the problem ?!
It s annoying...especially on a PA
I didn't understand much about the 450hz. whats the deal with that?
That should have been explained way better. I want to try but have no clue. Hopefully if enough people comment it might get explained.
450Hz is the freq where the muddy sound usually comes from.
Hey Mr Loudini , what u use for hearing? studio monitors or frfr? at 10:44 ?
Great advises! i am playing mooer 5153 preamp to radar to mixer to focus studio speakers; and there is loud hum or white noise. Andy advise? Could am i doing something wrong? thanks!!
Use noise gate.
#1 and #3....are the first things you do for ANYTHING. Make sure of latest update. AND Keep things simple...get the best sound at every stage before adding more.

Thanks man !
Do you think it can replace the role of a real cab in live situation?
I guess it can, but the radar is a pedal you have to play around a bit, to get real good sounds out of it. And to replace a real cab, you also need a DI Box to connect the radar directly to FOH...because the radar does not have a balanced output
Can you connect this directly to a powered studio monitor? like the hs 7?
yes you can.
hi man great video...could you tell me if I can connect the radar to a pod x3 pro and also to an eleven rack which is my audio interface as well and if so how would I wire them all...thanks
Hello sir can u give guidelines on how to update it mooer radar?
Why not 9 V ?
It works with 9v.
sorry but the power amps are make this pedal so awesome- wish the headrush or kemper had this feature
what 4!!! connector are you referring to lou???? FW400????
I just do not understand why the radar does not come wit a balanced xlr out...that would be the perfect piece of gear
Well, look at the size of the pedal and the price point. Does it make some more sense now?
It has a balanced out if you use a trs to xlr adapter. They had to use trs connector because of the size
Sonicake ir loader has an xlr
Can someone help me with the last step? The DAW I'm using is Reaper, but I don't quite actually get where you said to set the settings in DAW to "Current" TIA
Awesome video. And yeah I agree, the power amps are pretty crappy.
Omg can someone please just tell me if u can run a amp tube head through this into a damn daw….. nobody is mentioning that 😡
Guitar->amp head->loadbox/attenuator(Think Twonotes captor 8 or 16 Ohm compatible ) -> mooer -> audio interface -> DAW. Rock ON!
probably 450 Hz is related to your room resonances
I think you mean, Teenage mutant ninja turtles :) dude
Cowabunga!
