I really appreciate how you break down the value of stripped-down items. It really helps me decide whether to do a complete teardown or take in scrap as all shred. I'll at least cut off accessible copper wiring and pipe in the rush before an item goes to shred. I'm incredibly crunched for time. Value to time is also an important part of the equation! I don't totally dismantle the dryer, that way when it's on the trailer I can fill it with all the junk steel and other stuff for the weight. Also I fill up soup and vegetable cans with small screws and junk and put them in dryers, stoves, and refrigerators, ( all dismantled), to recycle. My metal yard doesn't take aluminum wired motors so I take the wire out and put it in my aluminum pile. Thanks for sharing your ideas and knowledge with us

I live in Phnom Penh Cambodia, I hoard all sorts of dead chattels and surplus materials to sell to the scrap merchant. The scrap merchant has mobile collectors going up and down all the streets. Some of the collectors even have their own collectors...
They collect everything. True urban mining. It's an honest living.
There are scrap metal thieves who sell the metals they steal to the merchants. The thieves aren't honest. Go figure.
One merchant I know personally bought an item that was stolen from my friend's house and returned it to him. It's nice to have good friends and neighbours.
I've mined my shed 3 times in 20+ years and it was a worthwhile exercise.
It is long overdue for another mining operation.
The price of scrap metal is the same all over the world.

my best change find in a dryer was $12 something. I always assume my dryers, garbage disposals and garage door openers are going to be aluminum and not copper. my main yard i use pays the same price for cast aluminum, aluminum wire, sheet aluminum, all aluminum radiators, etc, doesn't matter, the same price and it all gets thrown in the same bin at the yard. i still separate by category but since i have come back to scrapping it is all dumped together now there.

When I was scrapping most of the dryers I picked up I repaired if they needed it as long as they weren't filthy from sitting in the weather and I also got quite a bit of change out of them mostly from quarters. I sold them on average for $130 each. There were also qite a few that worked that I just cleaned up, checked for change and cleaned all the lint out, then sold them as well. I would also charge a delivery fee and install them if requested and take away washers or dryers they were getting rid of. Dryers are very easy to fix most of the time and parts are usually less expensive over the internet, I also used parts off the ones I was scrapping out as some are interchangeable. I saved dryer cords and used them for some of the dryers I repaired and sold as some were picked up w/o them.

We go with small trailers to get all kinds of things. People also have called since the word got around, and we have got whole bunches of scrap for various reasons such as a new homeowner cleans out the pole barn, or a new house. Washers, dryers and Microwaves are usually all easy repairing them & reselling for 5X the disassembled value. Dryer was probably blown thermal fuse. The lint stopped air flow and the thermal fuse popped, $3 bucks in parts. If the timer is bad then sell other parts on evilebay for 20 bucks and the rest for scrap.

I used to sell lots of dryer drums, for about the same money you mentioned. Have gotten gold & silver jewelry and of course lots of change and the occassional bill from them also. Most I have gotten cash wise from a single dryer was about $30 Canadian. The Loonies and toonies ($1 and $2 coins) add up quick. Many of the cabinets make for good little work stations/counters (if you put them back together,) as well. I also used to save the plastic gears from the little motors and sell them in a bulk lot on ETSY as craft and art supplies. Some of the newer dryers are worth checking up on for reselling the components, as well, especially switches and such that commonly fail in certain ones.

I can say from experience that auto relay contacts run %61-70 silver. It seems from videos ive seen from other youtubers, these contacts tend to be mostly copper with a thin silver layer on the face.
Im willing to "waste" some nitric acid to find out. The plan is to collect 31.1 grams (1 troy ounce) and find a percentage. I might just do a smaller 10 gram run to make the math easier.

You gave value at prices when you made the video. The only weight you gave was the starting weight of the dryer and of silver contacts. Component weights are more useful than contemporaneous prices. Just saying. I liked the video. Thanks for that.
