Behind the back panel in the freezer compartment, there is an aluminum radiator, fan motor, sheet aluminum and more copper tubing and wire, too.
I don't get that deep into it. I just grab the easy pickings. But I will try on the next one
Not worth it, 3 times more effort for 2 times less scraps
@SCOTT MILLER You don't. There is a metal panel in front of the freezer components. The plastic goes with the fridge to the scrap yard.
@@cuscrapping Do i need to worry about gases from scrapping a fridge?
@@investigativenews5803 As with any appliance that carries freon, yes...they need to be properly evacuated before cutting the lines.
Easy money nice video 👍🏼
Thank u! U helped me more than everyone trying to tell me how and what to do!
Thats the plan, I am glad it helped. The idea is to work together.
This is really gonna up my larceny game.
Lol
Keep going🙏🏽🎈❤️
excellent...
Most excellent! Thank you sir. Just scooped on up today.
Awesome
Nice video
The area I live in is surrounded by apartment complexes in every direction, I see refrigerators all the time and strip the copper and compressor out of them, I also see a lot of air conditioners, I've found 6 AC's this week alone which are also good for copper/compressor/radiators
Awesome finds. Keep doing it.
Thank you JC!!
I actually turned a full-size side-by-side refrigerator into designated scrapping workbench. On its side has two shelves can fit bins and tools. Also water proof😅
I am actually picturing that. Hmmm. In a pinch, great idea
Thanks for sharing a great video
Thanks for watching
Just subscribed n watched this video first!
I wondered why most don’t scrap the fridge. Figured it must be difficult but you proved me wrong! Great video!
You are welcome, and thanks for subscribing
Good video. Subscribed..
Awesome, thank you
That’s an awesome video. I’m going to try it a couple times and if I get good I’ll try a video. I’ll tell everyone I learned it from your video.
Thanks, also back of the freezer is an aluminum rad.
Enjoyed your video
Thank you
Making it look easy. Scrap on JC
Thanks, I'm trying😁
Cool job, pun intended lol. CHEERS!!
Thanks
I don’t usually mess with the fridges but will start after watching your video , thanks 🙏 , I use an old pair of tree loppers I found scraping to cut all my wire and even copper tubing up to even 3/4 inch copper pipe, its like a mini jaws of life cutter ,it’s faster then any other tool I’ve used for cutting with big time leverage for the big stuff. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching, I also use an old pair of loppers, I leave those on my truck, the others are too expensive. Also as I've learned, back of the freezer take off the inside panel, aluminum rad and a fan motor. 😀
Great video JC keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
Super break down video bro!
Thanks, did you send stickers?
@@scrapitjc I think so. If they arnt there tomarow let me know.
More pipework behind the back board, drain the canister of oil and break the components out for cast, copper and aluminium.. the main hazards are in the foam the modern gas used isn’t as harmful as it’s a blowing gas (varies by model) should still be removed with a pump and marked up
Awesome feedback, thank you
most fridges will have freon in unit. then you need a license/permit dealing with it. REMOVING IT..... if you take in compressor as a whole to recycle, you will need to show that license/permit!
Thumbs up for mentioning the obligation to be sure there is no freon inside. Residential fridges don't have shrader valves so it's not easy to be sure without tapping into a copper line.
It can be hard, my buddy uses a piercing clamp. Works pretty good.
Not complicated at all. I hit the like button my friend 👍😊
Thank you for that David.
I’m about to take a hammer to this shit the scrapyard not taking it
June bugs in the sun my arse... that crow needed to go!😅
I subbed
Thanks Vivian
A question. I would like to use a fridge as a heat pump for a small camper. Any suggestions how to place the cool loop outside, how to not lose the working fluid and how to regulate the temperature inside the camper? Perhaps it is heasy to install valves and loops etc. I want a heat pump for my mini camper.
Sounds like a great idea, but I have no clue how that can work. Wish I could help
And that's how the famous scrappers do it right here ....great video my friend 👍🔥
😁😁thank you, glad you liked
I suppose the best way to see if there is refrigerant is to cut a line and see if anything comes out? If it test positive, try it again in an hour or so?
I don't risk it, it's a low grade freon but I have a friend who recovers it. Some facilities but it.
Boom not first lol
too funny, lol
That big black compressor?, why didn't some gases go out of the copper tubes when u cut em?
That unit has the freon already removed
#boom1st
ROFL
How do you check to see if there's freon in it?
I don't check, I get a few units together and call my buddy.
You have to use the bullet piercing valve and gauge
Now you have to pay someone to discharge the freeon the scrap yard won't take them. Not without a certified freeon receipt. 😮
I have a HVAC friend that takes care of it for me.
@@scrapitjc wish I did, old appliances are stacking up.
@chuckhuff7123 that sucks, I had a guy service my system and we became friends. Get to know your ppl.
Only if your yard don't trust yah
These almost always have some variety or assortment of insects or creepy crawlers. Sometimes you even get brown recluses or black widows down in there. But its usually just g-daddy long legs. Sometimes ants or roaches.
I had a copperhead in one. That was crazy
Great video brother but if you took the back all the way off there is more goodies going up the back
Oh I know i just don't like tearing into all that insulation, So if you just go through the inside to the back of the freezer you can get the aluminum coil from there
@@scrapitjc exactly right
Nice break down video J . You get number one Copper from Freon refrigerator ?
#1 & #2. Copper
Thank you for the video. How can you tell if there is freon in the fridge or not?
It's hit or miss, i have my buddy come over just in case to remove any.
Copper, Copper, Copper! ♻️💪🏻
And more copper. 😆
This is why I see fridges with missing compressor and they leave the rest 😂😂
Yup
I would actually pay to have a fun job like that
The extra cash is nice
How do you know if there is freon in the unit?
The problem is you don't. I have a buddy who is an HVAC tech. He comes over with a recovery unit and removes it for me.
Boom not first either
You all Crack me up. 😄
I have two air conditioners in the back of my trailer now that I am not taking apart because there is Freon in them so I will be bringing them to the scrap yard as is. I hate doing that because there’s not much money in an air conditioner without stripping it down. Normally my AC guy that takes care of the air conditioner at my house let me come to his shop and he will remove the Freon for me. He is closed the weekend and I haven’t had time to bring my two air conditioners to him so I’m bringing them to the scrapyard as is
I have a friend who removes it for me
Just release in the back yard
@@llif619 that's a terrible thing to do your killing the ozone layer
@@jwrtech yeah it's me with the refrigerators fuckin everything up
I would have at least done everything in the shade to stay cool.
If you open the freezer and look close you will find a aluminum radiator and more copper wire and a electric motor and the aluminum is all clean...
I know you have to strip the wires to get the copper but what about the motor and solenoid? Do you just bring them the the scrapyard as is? Also rough estimate how much in weight and money was that you salvaged from the fridge? Great vid btw!
Motors i will Crack the larger ones. Small ones not do much, solenoids I fill a bucket and when full I Crack them for the copper. Maybe all together non and ferros $15-$20. All depends on the size. Plus they are great for storage when curb scrapping
@@scrapitjc how much copper do you pull out if a fridge like this one?
@stealyonikes 2lbs maybe if you Crack the compressor
Pull the inner wall out angel the radiato and freezerfan
I started doing that. Thanks for watching
Ya you missed all kibda aluminum up inside the freezrr..
Yes I did, I have been able to find more goodies since this video was posted, thanks to you viewers. 😊
What about the freezer unit it's worthwhile for scrap
I found out later in the freezer remove the inside back panel there is a aluminum rad
My yard doesn't take fridges unless they are flat I can skin a fridge in about a half hour.
Nice. Plus more room...
Thanks dude you from mass?
Yes I am, Whoosta, born and raised
So what do you do if the unit DOES have freon in it? How do you safely remove and dispose of it?
I have a friend who does HVAC, he has an evap machine and removes it for me. I pickup his old units from his job sites and it saves him time, so he helps me.
What’ll happen if I cut the lines and the Freon just releases
@@mikegarcia6802 it's not healthy to you and the environment. Having the freon removed properly is the best and safest way.
I accidentaly broke somethind it make a hissing sound i heard its a big deal What should i do and what happens
The hissing is probably Freon release. Let the air clear. Its not good for the environment. That's why it's good to have friends in the HVAC buisness that can come and remove it.
@@scrapitjc i think it now got emptiedied is it now safe to remove?
How do you check for freon?
My HVAC guy does it, I don't mess with it
What if it does have Freon?
Find someone that can rem8ve it safely for you. I have a friend who takes care of it but I wait until I have multiple units. Some if not all will charge.
many of the parts are good parts though. is it not better to have them for sale rather than sending them for remelting?
Depends on how you look at it, also if you have the storage space.
@@scrapitjc true. maybe one can do a happy medium. have them for sale for say a month and scrap them when no one busy.
@snorttroll4379 I did that with washer/dryers till I found a guy to but them. Fridge's the wife said no. Happy wife, happy life
How much are those parts worth? Might be getting rid of my old fridge.
Depends on your yard. Sealed unit .19cents a pd. Wire $1.50 a pound. Copper varies by location. Maybe $15-$20 bucks depends on how you do it. I strip and stockpile. Usually when I do a pickup, I'm picking up like 10 at a time.
The fridge, the juice worth the squeeze. Just put it to the curb, somebody will grab it. But when you accumulate a truck or trailer load, its worth the bother.
Comment
Yes
what about the steel skin on the whole fridge?
The rest all goes to the Scrap yard as shred.
@@scrapitjc ok thank you. i just bought a new fridge for a hunting camp, but kept the two doors from the old fridge because they are covered in bumper stickers and all kinds of stuff that is all good memories. So I am trying to figure out how to remove that steel skin and turn it into something we can hang on the wall like art. Guess a Sawz-All is probably the right tool
@@pamtnman1515 that would work, save the memories
Thanks dude!!
what about the water heater.
I'm going to look through your videos and see what else I can learn.
The Waterheater video is in there. Thanks for watching
What about all the plastic?
If I can recycle I do, but the scrapyard will take what's attached.
What about the rest of it
The rest of the shell goes as tin shred at the scrapyard
It almost doesn’t seem worth the time for the amount of money you get
If you stack the nonferrous it can be good. Then use the fridge for all the small shred to save space.
@@scrapitjc what do you mean by shred?
