So you think Stegman's art is reminiscent of Joe Mad? Wow. If you said early Erik Larsen or Todd Mcfarlane I could go with that. Or even Humberto Ramos. But Joe Mad is anime/manga/concept design influenced. I don't see those tropes seeping into Stegman's art. At all. What I do see is Marte Garcia putting that slick coloring sauce to the work, which definitely hearkens back to Liquid! coloring Joe Mad.
NGL, i want to like the From the Ashes comics, but boy, I am not impressed. There seems to be a lack of vision. It is still early, and good things might come, but I can't believe they rushed the end of the Karkoa Era for that :/
I really want to be into this comic since Cyclops is one of my favorites but man, something is off to me. I can't even put my finger on it. The characterization for these people seems to be off. They are all acting very juvenile for a team full of hard asses. I'm also not a fan of Kid Omega and was really hoping that he would be shelved after what happened to him in X-Force. Instead all of the characters are acting just as immature as him. I will stick with it and see where it goes but man, it feels pretty hollow right now.
Kinda crazy they were only helping with the invasion because they were in the area, and were really after the mutant. This busted up "Alright fine damn!" Ahh superhero team.
Was waiting for your video after reading this issue. I have to say that while I love what Jed McKay is doing, I’m having a very hard time with the art in this book. You mention Joe Mad and I had the same problem when he was drawing the X-Books too. While different and interesting, both their styles are distracting and take me out of the story rather than pulling me into the story more. Just my feeling on it. I’m sure lots of folks enjoy this.
Same here. McKay's story is keeping me interested but I agree that the art style takes a bit of the gravity away from what should feel like big moments. I read this on the same day as X-Factor #1, and it was a bit of the opposite...visually I'm digging it but the story they're kicking off the series with doesn't really move me
HA HA!!!! I quite literally knew who the Genegineer was but only because I am doing a reread of the late 80s through 90s run and read X-tinction Agenda event last night with him in it. I haven't touched any of the new run since the Krakoa era ended yet.
Hey, bruh no a Joe Mad shade! The man was out there art directing some of your favorite cartoons bitd like Jackie Chan Adventuresand The Batman. And since it was post boom period, he needed to get paid! He pulled Jeff Loeb on us, lol
This is not hitting for me. I'm, oddly, struggling with the art. The character designs for Juggernaut and Magik are... odd. It's a pile of small things that are adding up to disappointment for me. The portrayal of Juggernaut is currently heading the list. He's being played for comic relief, and it doesn't work. Firing Cain out of a railgun at an alien ship should have been epic, but it came across as hokey. Gonna give this a few issues, but it's not looking good. Mackays penchant for deep cuts is hit or miss. It worked with the House of Shadows and Man Mountain Marko, but the Shroud reveal was head scratching, as was Blood Hunt. His Avengers isn't working for me either, though I really enjoy Moon Knight and Doctor Strange
@@victormartins3249 Yeah, though I really like Mackay's writing for solo characters, he seems to struggle with team books. I'm hoping for improvement, but hope is free, and X-Men is 5 bucks a pop. Thus far, I've picked up X-Men, Uncanny, and X-force, and I can't say Im really vibing with any of them. It's frustrating, because they all have some good ideas, but fall down, somewhat, in execution. They all have weird moments where odd characterization, or bad dialogue pull me out of the story For example, Scott telling Cain how proud he is of him. He does realize Cain is Xavier's OLDER brother, right? Or Rogue asking Kurt if she should call him "Father" Kurt hasn't been a priest for a while, now, and Rogue would know that.. Of the three, the art in X-Men is the weakest, which I never thought I'd say about Steggman. I found myself skimming Uncanny because there was, what seemed to me, too much unnecessary dialogue. So far, these comics aren't bad. They're, in fact, pretty good. But I need them to be Great to justify the price. Oh, and the less said about the QR code bit, the better.
12:13 thank you! I swear to god, I have been seeing this over and over and over again. People read one issue of something, they read the first Issue of something, and I click the whole story just ended. As if things aren't Going to return later or be added on. Like do yall know what parts & chapters are? Do you not know what acts are for plays & movies? Do y'all understand what story structure is? For fuck sakes.
If memory serves Magnetos powers were delayed (ignore the movies) due to ill health in the concentration camp. I know that was likely retconned to fit the movies but that was a thing.
I actually think Temper was pointing to it being an Evangelion reference for Quintin telling Juggernaut to "get in the fucking robot" so to speak. Just in this case it's a Mass Driver
I was crazy confused at first when Ben disappeared and was like damn he's dead.... or he transported... or just disappeared. Then I was like wtf, he's in Alaska now. Took me a minute to figure out what just happened.
Seems like Ben was abducted by the mysterious orchis/fourth school people and experimented on probably like the other mutants in the first issue but thinks it’s aliens and ended up in social care. Great read can’t wait to see wait to come
Just remember Franklin Richard is still the nost powerful mutant that will ever exist. Mans ao strong he deleted himself from the mutant dna and made it so his full powers are only available for a day just so he could have more time with his family. He even erased the knowledge from himself. Dude is literally Marvel's one above all. And he's nerfed himself to the extreme for family
Supposedly because lore it’s during teenage years. Like the allegory for the growth changes in the teenage years. They’re have been some that have been awakened mutations in later years. Might need to look back for examples.
All natural mutants are born with the "x-gene" but in the majority of them it is in an off position. Experiencing a heightened hormonal/bio-chemical state such as puberty or a traumatic experience tends to activate the powers attributed to that x-gene by teenage years. A percentage of them may experience conditions that activate the gene giving powers at birth or even in the womb (e.g., Nightcrawler) even if it then goes dormant until puberty (e.g., Professor X). A percentage also make it past puberty and high stress events without the gene activating, so they do not manifest powers. Some are considered latent mutants and remain unpowered unless some natural, supernatural or artificial external stimulus activates them as adults, or whatever was suppressing their gene activation is removed/fixed. *These are their stories* 🎵 🎵 PS There are also artificial mutants who implant the gene to gain powers (e.g., Mr. Sinister) instead of being born with it; and some mutants have a second expression of their gene in the form of secondary mutation (e.g., Emma Frost gaining a diamond form later in life on top of her existing telepathy; or Beast chemically triggering his furry, animalistic form).
This aint bad. Just not fun for me. I'm realizing I like my XMen books to be anything but straightforward superhero stories. And I dont really like his feel for Psylocke or Oya,
i dont know whats up with the art in this book man. its still great, so im coming at this from a completely subjective place but Stegman’s art can be so pretty but I think the Inker on this book is going too hard making it look way more scratchy than Stegman can be. I also feel like Stegman is leaning in to a cartoony style as well and Im not sure how I feel about it either
@@victormartins3249 say that again! It’s the same type of stories as before. Phoniex is the best new X Book. Cause it’s not about a world of oppressed people who keep getting their butts beat on by lesser people.
no need to save the day anymore reality warping charters can change the narrative lol so no need for dimple charterers anymore like fantastic four and x men and spiderman thor deadpool they all pointless now compared to charecters like scarlet witch

Really brings back that old X-Men feel. Find a OP mutant and hopefully humans don't hate us worser because of what they did😅
I believe Ben will be the new " Danger room" for training
That's interesting
Was not expecting a riff on "Get in the robot, Shinji."
Honestly I was getting "Shinji, get in the EVA!" Vibes from that interaction between Juggernaut and Omega
I honestly do like how this new mutant was introduced and how the mass activation of the x gene were handled by Jed McCay .
Small correction, Psylocke didn't fake the death. It was Illyana and Quentin.
It seemed more like a monster of the week bottle episode instead of issue 2 of a flag ship series
I’ll let them cook though

How many reality warpers does Marvel need?
Yes😊
To me, Stegman is a mix of McFarlane and Joe Mad, or that cartoons type of art.
I'm not sure the reality warper, unwilling threat, flavor of the month is doing it for me.

Because adults suck. Nobody who sucks deserves powers. 😂😭
