In Idie's defence she killed one human on Krakoa, and not even willfully. One of the great tragedies of Oya is that she's not a bloodthirsty person at all, but she always seems to be put in situations where she has to kill people through the actions of those around her. She has strong morals but she's never been allowed to listen to them, and that weared down on her. Her not killing the ONE soldiers isn't just her showing mercy, or even control over her powers or even herself, she's exerting control over her circumstances.
I really like the way you word this. She's got a lot more agency in these few issues than she's ever had before and it feels earned. She's grown enough to trust her own judgment and question that of others.
Cyclops reminds me of military guys I know, they’re intelligent, capable and successful in their service, but they aren’t the best people in their personal lives, it’s not really a bad thing, sometimes they just focus so much on their career , or cause that they lose it personally, you can’t be great at everything, it’s human

If they had to change Oya's name it should have been Tempered. Having the ability to of ice and fire, but really the ability to speed up and slow down molecules makes her more powerful than meets the eye. Also Tempered alludes to being in control, measured, mastery of her craft as opposed to being ruled by her power.
There is no next Storm. Storm is one of the greatest superheroes ever. But Tempers pretty cool as long as she can carve out her own lane. I’m interested in seeing where they go with her
This series is showing potential, unlike one or two of the other new ones. The Scott, Oye change since the fall is showing impact on both. I like that they are keeping Juggernaut as a good guy, which they had him on the team before, so it shows his growth of a character over the year along with Black Tom. The Quentin & Psylocke seems to have reverted without their love interests, which I hope is just a temporary situation. Magik is still feisty, but still loyalty to Scott as during the fall of Krakoa and when they both had the power of the Phoenix. I am curious on the goal of Scott and Magneto plans, as they remind me of when both of them, were running after the death of Xavier in the Phoenix saga and the young X-men had been brought to the future. The fact that Rogue, Wolverine, Gambit are keeping apart of Scott's new team seems to indicate that a great deal of the mutants is tired of the Fall of Krakoa/Orchis managed fear of mutants and want to be left alone from humanity, yet like the WWI aftermath of war, turning isolationist of humanity, only enabled Fascism to rise up and rekindle old conflicts over again. In the new issues, so far, there are still groups out to regain power as either mutant haters or power seekers, stirring up conflicts like NYX and X-Factor. The comment about concern about a mutant manifestation of power blamed as contagious is odd, since, pre House of X, there was the mutant growth hormones taken by humans to gain power of mutants, which I thought during the House of X & Fall of Orchis, Orchis was still looking to empower humans to beat mutants with powers of their own. The first issue of this series showed, remnants of Orchis, working to continue that augmentation of power, and might be occurring with X-Factor, and O.N.E, as well.
Magik at this point feels like Cyclops trusted "right-hand man" but being her own self sufficient character instead of falling into "sidekick trap" (and during Krakoa era despite of "War Captains" was for most part forgotten, Magik show best results and act as War Captain more than rest of them combine)
My older brother collected Xmen comics going back to Xmen 93 when they swapped teams. I would look at the comics, I was 5 at the time, and just marvel at Phoenix and Cyclopes, and loved the new team and wondered why Sunfire didn't stay and why Banshee wasn;t around. When the Xmen were in space, and Arcade kidnapped alot of their friends and family, and Banshee (depowered and wearing some weird spy shit), Iceman, Havoc and Polaris had to rescue them Murderworld and I was confused. I thought Iceman, Havoc and Polaris (Who was in some weird Shiar costume) had left the team. I remember Dazzler and Kitty Pride meeting the Xmen and I was hoping Dazzler would join, but she waited like 100 issues or so, but I just remember being fascinated by Kitty, since she was 13 and I was 5. Fast Forward to Rachel Summers and the Days of Future Past story line and where I could understand the themes and story lines better. Then Rachel and Kitty became my 2 fave Xwomen, then they formed Excalubur which I collected every issue and love to this day. I miss the old X teams though. I am not a fan at all of the Genocide P0rn that the current Xmen comics have become.
As a fan I feel second hand pride seeing LaValle's story threads getting picked up by so many other writers; from Gillen bringing it up to trigger the dissolution of the Quiet Council, to RoM using it, and now the continuation of Idie's story. Hell, while I don't think it lived up to the previous mini series, even the Sabretooth War seemed like a result of Marvel not picking up a third mini and so Ben Percy collaborating with LaValle to give some conclusion in the pages of Wolverine. I got the impression that Marvel saw his Sabretooth series as more of a side-dish to the main event, but his writing and ideas where so solid that other writers had to pick them up. I know he's a very successful writer already but I hope he gets the recognition from Marvel and it's fans, and they ask him back. It also makes me a little hopeful that Magneto's journey in Resurrection will be addressed, since that's a part of this story. I do buy that he could backslide and hide behind his pride, but I'd like to see why he stumbled.
I love the conversation with Oya and Magneto, but after Lavalle’s run on those Sabertooth series, I was hoping to see more of Nekra, Third Eye and the rest of The Maroons. If they were able to bring back Quentin Quire, the could bring back Toad, Melter and Madison Jeffries.
As a black person, I don't really so how Idie's codename change to 'Temper' is offensive, when it refers to her ability to manipulate temperature. The argument of Cargill being code named 'Frenzy' would be more compelling, especially given her powers include being "super-strong and super-tough". And at least those codenames don't fall into the cliche of a black character having the word 'black' in their codename.

Cyclops has picked a team that communicates mutantind's potential to hit back should they be attacked. They'll do good but even the people they save will recognise them as a legitimate threat. This team is designed to do good and be feared.

I being a Nigerian myself, never even thought of the alias “temper” being potentially stereotypical of black women. In fact, hearing the word, I considered the idea cool but I wanted to change it to “temperance” or “tempress”. Why? If you search up the word “temperance” is literally means “moderation” or “self-restraint” or “self-control” or “balance”. Notice how her powers involve her balancing fire and ice? It’s a name that just fits very well. On top of that, temperance is the opposite of the stereotype given to black women that they are always angry or have a huge chip on their shoulder. If you have self-control, then you would be the opposite of “always angry”. So her being called “Temperance” or “Tempress” not only symbolizes her balance between fire and ice but also symbolizes the opposite of the stereotype regarding black women. “The one who has mastered temperance: Oya the Tempress”. Doesn’t that just sound cool? Aw man, I wish the writer really connected those dots. Or just calling her temperance works too. 😂 EDIT: I saw another comment suggesting for her to be called Tempered. I also liked that their acronym can also be the One-Ninety-Eight to refer the starting number of mutants post decimation. Nice to see good Juggernaut stuff. But we all know that a certain Irish waif and his sober niece appearing could make or break it. Temper in this? Nekra would be proud. I’m so glad they’re not just retconning stuff because Temper went through so much on Krakoa just because she tried to defend it. Frankly, I want Nekra to appear. Do it. Honestly, I do like when Cyclops shows some vulnerability. Just to peak through his stoic nature. That’s probably why I was down for the Morrison run. And the next issue is called Upstarts? If it has that scumbag, Matsuo, I am ready for that reunion with Kwannon. There’s two members I’d like to see but it’s I like seeing their Apartheid Flowers in the Attic behinds kicked. And Kwannon did us all a favour last year by stopping them from touching each other lol.

Oya was clearly illustrated as the angry Black woman trope. Even if the writing tried heavy handedly to "explain" this HORRIBLE decision of a name change (From African Orisha to American Racism) it's clearly using a dangerous trope. Even if you like her characters conversation the idea that the sole Black character is depicted this way, in Word and Picture, is untenable. Also writers think they're being cool sh*t posting on Krakoa in their books as a meta way to tell fans to get over their HORRIBLE treatment of an entire fan-favorite era with worse writing, worse art, and disjointed story, and less sales.. miss me with that. Will not be reading any more and it's making the whole X-franchise look trash.
Justice for Oya. I loved her character when she first appeared as one of the 5. Her character development over the years has kind of washed that quirky, but witty personality out. Now, shes basically bitter about being in the pit for so long. Im interested in seeing how McKay fleshes her out to give some more depth to her plight.

a lot of what mackay is playing with his going back to bendis's uncanny x-men run. cyclops characterization in this issue is not to dissimilar with revolutionary cyclops - you know with the x-face look.

It took tremendous strength and love that a father could give to send his newborn away to the future in order to save his life. That is ultimate sacrifice and courage that only a good father could make. I have other examples to give if you'd like them.

I like Temper. She is actually becoming interesting and doesn't feel as generic as she did before. Although i like the line-up this book sucks. The uniforms suck. Idk wtf is going on with Magneto. He was just brought back better and now he's floating around in a hoover chair 😅 smh They're making the X-men go out backwards. The art sucks.
I have to say, between this issue and '97, I'm feeling some love for Cyclops I've not had since I was a kid. I've been a fan of Temper since her debut, and I really liked her after schism at the institute with Kid Omega. But I'm very excited to see where she is headed, this might end up being my fave arc with her. We will see, and the art style is starting to grow on me I'm happy to say.
A couple of things I like about where this seems to be going: a.) The concept of Cyclops positioning this tactical team in between mutantkind and the adversarial aspects of the US Government is both clever and kind. He's taking the risks he doesn't want others to take. He's totally right not to forgive anyone who'd worked with ORCHIS. b.) I LOVE what's being done with Temper. No notes. c.) I do like that the other groups aren't out of mind and are referenced. These are people who used to live in the same neighborhood in the good ole days.

Attempting to "take back" Temper in order to push away from the "angry black person" stereotype is better than hearing my people refer to themselves and responding positively toTHAT word.

Oya was clearly illustrated as the angry Black woman trope. Even if the writing tried heavy handedly to "explain" this HORRIBLE decision of a name change (From African Orisha to American Racism) it's clearly using a dangerous trope. Even if you like her characters conversation the idea that the sole Black character is depicted this way, in Word and Picture, is untenable.
Also writers think they're being cool sh*t posting on Krakoa in their books as a meta way to tell fans to get over their HORRIBLE treatment of an entire fan-favorite era with worse writing, worse art, and disjointed story, and less sales.. miss me with that.

Justice for Oya. I loved her character when she first appeared as one of the 5. Her character development over the years has kind of washed that quirky, but witty personality out. Now, shes basically bitter about being in the pit for so long. Im interested in seeing how McKay fleshes her out to give some more depth to her plight.
to be Fair Charles and Magneto had a secret trial to put everybody in the pit who was there for the sabertooth comic and magneto was not wearing his helmet if i recall
If they don't stop jumping over the original X-Men. Wolverine has his place. Wolverine has never been a leader leader until things happen. To make him become a leader. Cyclops was train and was made to be the leader of the X-Men. If the go through the first ones and add the other in it would be better gor the MCU
a lot of what mackay is playing with his going back to bendis's uncanny x-men run. cyclops characterization in this issue is not to dissimilar with revolutionary cyclops - you know with the x-face look.

Blerd, you saying Cyclops aint a good father is laughable and show that you are not reading these comics. It took tremendous strength and love that a father could give to send his newborn away to the future in order to save his life. That is ultimate sacrifice and courage that only a good father could make. I have other examples to give if you'd like them.
I get what you're saying about the name Temper, and I was concerned as well, but when they discussed the reason for the name I was so happy. It's great and I love it

I like Temper. She is actually becoming interesting and doesn't feel as generic as she did before. Although i like the line-up this book sucks. The uniforms suck. Idk wtf is going on with Magneto. He was just brought back better and now he's floating around in a hoover chair 😅 smh They're making the X-men go out backwards. The art sucks.

I have to say, between this issue and '97, I'm feeling some love for Cyclops I've not had since I was a kid. I've been a fan of Temper since her debut, and I really liked her after schism at the institute with Kid Omega. But I'm very excited to see where she is headed, this might end up being my fave arc with her. We will see, and the art style is starting to grow on me I'm happy to say.
A couple of things I like about where this seems to be going:
a.) The concept of Cyclops positioning this tactical team in between mutantkind and the adversarial aspects of the US Government is both clever and kind. He's taking the risks he doesn't want others to take. He's totally right not to forgive anyone who'd worked with ORCHIS. b.) I LOVE what's being done with Temper. No notes.
c.) I do like that the other groups aren't out of mind and are referenced. These are people who used to live in the same neighborhood in the good ole days.
I would agree. Scott and Logan are 1a and 1B. Regardless of what position. Ororo is 2 by a landslide. 3rd is up for debate. I’d say Hank personally

@@Алексей545-т6б no I mean all of the people on the roster were objectively villains. Magik was Darkchyld, Psylocke rocked with the Brotherhood for a while, Oya was put in the Pit, Magneto, Beast, all of them were "villains" to the X-Men in some shape or form
