Magnet bases
These are now in our Amazon store - see Ken’s cameras or things for outside the van. They are the 66mm ones.
They film all night.
Not true they only film when they detect movement. You can control how sensitive they are, if you only want people, vehicles, animals or all of them. This is why the battery lasts so long. The camera will turn on , film for 15 seconds and turn off. Sometimes it does not catch all of the action. If you hear something you can set them to record continuously if you want. You will see I did this when we had a spot of bother in an episode coming up.

WHY DON’T I USE THE VAN WIFI
Our Fiat Ducato has a mobile link that it uses to do software updates. To be honest I never thought of using it. I don’t want to test it as my system is all running sweet now. My thoughts on this is it is worth a try, possible issues are the system automatically shuts down to save power where I leave my little Huawei box plugged in and switched on all night. Huawei say not to do that because it will shorten the life of the battery but I don’t mind if the battery does not hold a charge as long as it continues to work. The other point is turning on the ignition turns on the running lights which might draw attention you don’t want.
WHY DON’T I USE MY EE BOX
I could and then I could connect remotely but leaving it powered up all the time would ruin the battery in the EE box and we like to take it with us for use when we are out.

Yes but I would rather that than damage be caused to fixed cameras. Risk is low and the whole van could be nicked.

I have had a previous Reolink model and it has been superb.The battery life is incredible.I have ordered one of these along with the swivel base.I dont think you can have too much in the way of security.Thank you for your review.

Hi kids from Spain. Very interesting. We have nuisance ringing of our doorbell in the evening and at night but don't know by whom. I don't think that something this sophisticated is what we need but will bear in mind.

Have been interested in what cameras you were using so thanks very much for this information. Will watch this later but my thoughts are that as you are a retired policeman, if you are using this system that’s good enough for me. I’ve read your pinned notice and your logic makes sense to me. Still waiting for our camper van but security has been on my mind……I’d rather over secure the van than under. Any suggestions re security that you are willing to give, without compromising your own security methods will be gratefully received.
My thoughts are don’t worry too much about security as that often stops us from enjoying life. Keep critical items with you, spend time assessing the risk of where you are parked (my van life safety video discusses that) but don’t turn it into Fort Knox. If a thief gets in the locks will make them smash them open and you end up with more hassle than needed. I use a steering lock as a visual deterrence, tracker etc but all of these devices can be defeated. These cameras allow me to check whats going on outside at night. 👍

Its a intersting product, however I think cameras fixed securely to the van with wires since a jammer would stop the wifi signal. How many cameras and where would you place them on the van if you had permanent wired cameras fitted?
@@sim6699 Think about the likelihood of encountering someone with a jammer rocking up in a place where I spend one night only. No wires means I can put them wherever I need them and don’t need to even think about the perfect place.
Thank you very much for the information on the cameras. I will look at getting some soon. I see on your amazon page you have a Ring automotive RAC610 tyre inflator. I’m just about to buy one for my VW transporter. 205/65R 16, 54 psi. Have you tried it on Snoopy’s tyres? Happy with it? Many thanks x
I have not tried it on the new van. Am I happy 🤔. I think there are better out there. It was fine for my Volvo and NV200 but it became temperamental of late not pumping and then suddenly flying into action.

I have some Blink cameras at the rear of my house, keeping watch on my shed, etc., but I'm disappointed with the Blink cameras. Will have a look at these as a possible alternative. Yes, data security for some tech products can be unsafe. I was going to purchase a DJI camera until I read about the data security issue with them, so I purchased something else instead.
I have 3 DJI cameras so I am stuffed 😁. Trouble is they are producing some of the best vlogging gear on the market. ☹️
Would you know if it’s possible to have the SD card in an internal receiver. Mainly if someone drove a vehicle into the van and camera dropped onto their vehicle then they take off..? Just thinking… not fault picking..😊
This is not the tool for that. A dashcam is best for that. This is just for being able to see and hear who is outside when it’s dark. The infrared light lights them up a treat. 👍

I use my phone as a wifi hot spot to connect various devices to the internet as I have an unlimited data sim. Would these cameras connect directly to my wi fi hot spot?

Never tried that but I doubt it. When you use the mini wifi you can connect multiple cameras.
Yes that would work. It will drain the phone battery more quickly than usual but you could leave it plugged in to USB.

It’s 2K which is pretty clear. 4K would be better.
Ken, Carol if I have a wifi router already do I still need a separate router?
The router I have currently is part of my Maxview Wifi which I use my phone WiFi through.
Is there a reason you went with those cameras over Blink?
No you don’t need another router. I went for these following recommendation from Wizard in the Wild channel 👍

The Reolink camera link says it is for indoor use only. Are they waterproof for outside and work the same?
@@judeshangout9637 if you click on the description of the camera it says indoor/outdoor. As explained in the video, they are waterproof for use outdoors as long as you position them the right way up.

They can. Check Reolinks website as they have better solutions for home use. 👍.
Hi Ken. Do you happen to know if they can operate while plugged in/charging?
Never tried it but pretty sure they can as reolink have cameras intended for 24 hr recording.
I bought a couple of Imou looc cameras for the front and driveway. I fed the power cables through nearby windows to usp ports. They were less than £80 but provide coverage of my caravan on the drive and car. The only downside is all my comings and going’s are being monitored by a Chinese spy network who will in time put this information to good use. Love your channel Ken but I couldn’t put up with the privations you and Carol endure to provide us with entertainment.

By law you must inform the public with signage that you are cctv recording, it is strictly illegal to secretly record the general public with video and particularly of sound, without informing them. Also inform on the signage the reason you are videoing under the data protection act ( security in your case presumably ) on any areas beyond your own property, also you mustn't video into private property. You have now become a data controller, which carries many other responsibilities in law under the data protection act.
A recent private action was brought by a doctor against another individual under this act and the damages came to £100,000.

Several reviewers on Amazon say they are great at first, but after a couple of years the batteries don’t hold their charge and can’t be replaced as they are built in. If this is true, that’s a pity.
It’s true they are built in like everything these days. Time will tell on the battery life. If I only got two years it would still be worth it for me. Even film cameras have switched to built in batteries. It’s all part of the con. 👍

Why do you need a separate wifi device? Why can’t you just link the cameras to the van’s wifi?
That never crossed my mind to be honest - do you mean the WiFi system that the van uses to update its own software? It would be worth a try to see if it works I suppose. Would the ignition have to be on ? That illuminates the running lights

@@LifeistooshortCKI’m talking about the wifi you use to connect your phone, tablets, TV etc to? Apologies if your van doesn’t have that - maybe you use another mobile hotspot device instead? But either way the cameras should be able to connect to the same one. Fairly sure most Reolinks have an SD card for recording. But yes if you wanted to see what was happening outside that device would have to be switched on. But if you don’t have any van wifi at all then yes, what you’ve shown in the video probably is the only way for it to work.
@@ipb1966 I do have another router with a Sim. I don’t like to use that as keeping it powered all night will ruin the battery. I agree having a full blown wifi system powered by the leisure battery is the best solution. 👍
Could you explain what you mean by they are banned. We use a couple of them and they are fine on o2 and EE sims.
I went into EE to buy a sim for it and they told me that since our Government cited the use of Chinese communication equipment was a national security risk networks have been phasing them out. He demonstrated a sim had no network connection. He could of course just have been trying to get me to buy an EE router which I did but he seemed genuine. 👍. If it’s working for you that is good. Others will read this 👍
This relates to the backend equipment in the 5G network. The really expensive stuff that the networks use to run the system, not the devices used by end consumers.
The one you have looks like it’s 4G and would not be impacted anyway. But yes get a sim and it will work, but likely newer ones will get better reception for those using it in a van as a hotspot etc. and the sales person will get more for selling you a device rather than than a sim only deal.
Works fine for what you need, which is just a WiFi network for managing the camera, could be on any WiFi network if you already had one, but this does make it simpler to setup and leave alone.
I expect most networks now don’t offer devices from them as it’s now more hassle with the complications, but that usually changes depending on what bulk agreement they have from 1 year to the next!
