Another layer of protection is a gps tracker like YoGPS. It notifies you if the vehicle moves and tracks it in real time sending you notifications.

Hello, I have the both the Blink and Arlo security system. Each has its pros and cons. Blink was easy to install (I mean real easy, even instructed my sister to install over the phone). Battery is easy to replace but they take a special battery from Energizer - ultimate lithium. Expensive but they do last a long time. When they loose connection with the internet, mine do take awhile to connect back. Biggest con for me is that you can view only one camera at a time. The Arlo you can view all cameras simultaneously. This makes it easier to view where the problem is. Turning on the cameras for a live view takes a time - Blink one at a time vs Arlo all cameras simultaneously. Arlo was harder to set up. Once set up they work fine. Arlo has rechargeable batteries but they need to be recharged 2-3 times a year depending on activity. I love them both for different reasons. I also would have selected Blink due to the installation. I just wish it reacted quicker and could view all cameras simultaneously. Thank you for the video!

I don't have feedback on security systems, but I love your channel. You do quality work. (I learned a lot from you when building our own van.) You are informative and easy to follow. You move a long quickly-- no endless gabbing. I only wish you did more videos. PS -- Now I'm leery about visiting CA.

Interesting option. I'd position a camera to cover each side of the van so that I could see around when all the window covers are in place. I watched a video from a female vanlifer describing some of her security, including this.
I'd also research a GPS tracking system.
Campervibe had a gadget installed that manually locks the shift transmission on their van.

My brother uses Blink Camera system at his place of business and loves them. The camera has a microphone and speaker in them and he uses them to keep the Unwants out. They do also give him alerts if they detect motion. You do need internet systems and
Always use lithium batteries. Great product

Awesome video! We're looking at the Wyze cameras. One thing I didn't see in this video (maybe I missed it, I am working while watching) was the amount of data being used and how that could impact your data caps for van lifers using hot spots for internet.
I know for Wyze if you are live streaming it will use 4-7MB per min for HD or 1-2MB for standard definition video. They also will send 12s clips of video to the cloud if motion is detected with the detection feature enabled. Each clip would be roughly 800KB - 1.4MB for HD and 200KB - 400KB for SD. Since most van lifers use a data plan for internet this may add up to a large portion of internet use. Something to definitely look into!
Also, I would be scared that a thief would attempt to break in, notice the camera right at the door and just take the low hanging fruit and leave xD hopefully that doesn't happen!

I am still waiting on my van build. We have Eufy for the home. So I purchased 4 Eufy Solo cam E40 cameras and 4 strong magnetic mounts (from Amazon) for them. I also purchased some black silicone covers for the cameras so that they will be stealth. I also have Starlink RV. I plan on just using the cameras and Starlink when parked. Hopefully I can mount them high enough so that they will be somewhat stealth and harder to cover or steal.

As Always, Luv your vid and expertise. My “base plan” was the use of a ‘pain generator’ in the cockpit area. High decibel siren mounted in headliner that would be activated by motion, door opening, or glass breakage.
I have extra ‘back-up’ cameras for exterior, from trial and error purchases, that are adequate for exterior ‘surveillance’.
The challenge for Both of the above is control ‘modules’, that I have yet to understand/find to implement my ‘system’. Your concept in this video is outstanding in that it covers all of it with the exception of my ‘pain generator’ (which I really want … punish n’er do wells with some hearing loss [permanently]).
The Only concern that I have with the blink is sourcing Inexpensive Wi-Fi with near-excellent location coverage … I know, not asking for much 😒
If any of your smart subscribers have thoughts on my ‘base plan’, I’d love to hear it. If I am unable to button that plan up with the controllers, I will Definitely be going Blink 👍🏼. I would just like to (Try) using what I have …

Just watched and since I'm looking for something to use in our teardrop when we are hiking, the Blink seemed ideal. Popped over to Amazon and WOW, the number of negative reviews is daunting. You need a subscription to record, adequate band width (something about 5G) and the poor reliability and you would need internet, so for us that would mean one of our smart phones as a hotspot or something like a Jetpack from Verizon.

you had a good advantage since your van roof is high up. you can have a 4 way compass monitor security system. Unfortunetly I have a suv CRV - with the gps tracking, drive cameras for scammers. and sensor alarms that even if you try to break or wiggle a bit of my car. it will set off a lot of sounds within.

Great ideas Seven O! I have Blink (recent addition) and Ring at home, and Arlo at my brick-n-mortor business. I started with Arlo, then moved to Ring, but I've been pleased with the Blink for the added security and low price. Of course, I have subscriptions for all three.
After seeing this, I would definitely consider adding a Blink system to my van conversion (I have a Starlink RV so Internet everywhere is not a problem). My only question is, why the need for the doorbell camera on the passenger side? For someone to check to see if your are in the van? Or, it was part of the kit so you used it! Just curious!

I have 6 of the blink mini cameras as well! I absolutely LUV them! I have them around my apartment suite. I have one facing at my entrance door so I know if anyone is entering (breaking in) to my suite while I'm away, as well as one facing the building entrance door on my side of the building (inside pointing out through the window) & 2 monitoring the parking lot! I also put 2 in another tenants suite facing both directions of the main entrance door on his side of the building. I monitor those as well. They are as easy as you say! I would like to purchase more & add them to the inside of the apartment, one inside facing in the direction of each of the entry doors (that would be 2) & one in the laundry room. No, we do not live in the safest neighborhood. We have suffered break-ins & theft & our landlord/owner is the cheapest neglectful one I've ever come across.

Awesome, good to hear they are working... I want to figure out how to disguise and embed them in natural things, tissue paper containers, etc, so the thugs don't see it immediately or at all. My goal is to get them arrested not to scare them off. So I love the idea of getting video of their faces.💪

    • @tamo9520
      @tamo9520 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@LJ-jq8og I love the idea of disguising them. Especially in a natural setting. Mine are the minis and are only for indoor use. I'm on the 2nd floor, so anyone on the ground can't see that they are in the window. Also, because they are the minis (small), they fit right in the upper nook of the corner of the window & I don't see any of the window frames in any of the cameras that I have facing out. I LUV the fact that you can speak through them as well. I have spoken to an intruder (another selfish rude thieving tenant who is now in jail & not living in our building anymore) who broke into my suite while I was out one day. After I called another neighbor to let the cops in (24 hr locked doors, no buzzers), I called the cops & reported it, all while I was watching her and once they were on their way, I called out through the camera "Busted"! I called it out a few times. Seriously, the quality of the videos is clear, and you can define colours wonderfully well. And you get sound in the videos too. So you can hear the intruders talking & rumaging.

How about tge picking on the van for security as well?? Thunderbolt, for example. Also can and I believe should have a dash cam with motion detection. Huge help and easy install in addition.

So much paranoia with a van in CA! Im focusing on this very early on in my build. My issue with wifi cameras for security is that wifi can be defeated with a pocket sized jammer. I dislike walled garden systems for privacy and upgradability. I live in break-in central, and ill be installing ONVIF/RTSP cameras on a POE system, with a small single board computer running Frigate and Home Assistant. These will all run directly off the DC bus. This will allow for NVR, cloud backups, and alerts. Im designing my security as an integrated system, with an aftermarket two way alarm, thunderbolt and puck locks, and a camera and presence detection system with its own LTE modem for alerts. An added plus to using my own SBC, I will be able to integrate my own glass break and motion/presence detection.

Planning the same with HA and Frigate on a HP T530. Not decided yet which camera's. In my garden to check for birds I use the Eufy Indoor 2K, build in a PVC pipe, works great, but a little to big imo for the roofrack.

YES, you cannot be too careful. Especially living in lefty land. You are guaranteed to have people try and break in. Sadly, you need to remember that no matter where you park it when you live in that area it is ultra high risk. But it sounds like you're putting in a great system.
I would also design into your build plans places to put laptops iPads, and wallets that are seamless and counterintuitive so if somebody does break in, they can't find them easily. One of my ideas was to have old junk or huge Apple laptops and iPads that were broken and leave those readily findable.
That way the lefty thugs, find a bunch of "treasure" but don't realize that you are decoying them with pure crap. They will feel like they hit it big and bail out of the vehicle sooner than later. This way your good stuff is hidden away, built into the frame of the interior. Good luck and be prepared for having to get new windows on a regular basis.

@@ijsvogels_nl yes, the right form factor for automotive appears to be a challenge. The analog cameras used for vehicle backup and security seem to be the right size, but one would need to add a video server to convert the analog video to an rtsp stream. The vivotek video servers might work well. Heads up, Eufy were found to be sending data back to company servers!

@@vandal144 Will check that Vivotek out. I'm gonna check out ESP32cam and Raspberry camera's as well, I don't want to be independent for firmware of other companies.

@@LJ-jq8og vandalism and crime are not isolated to a political spectrum, but rather based on location, scale and opportunity. No one is going to ransack a run down trailer park.

Please make more videos! Travel, life, build, adventures!
Question, the Wi-Fi on the road… do you have starlink?
Thanks for making a video about this. I’m so freaked out about theft. I also live in a city with rampant crime! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Great video! I have this idea. You mount a pole on top of the van. With a hinge to lay it down or removable when driving. When the pole is extended upright, maybe you only need 2 back to back Blink cameras mounted to it? Will that provide a 360 view with minimal cameras?

I wonder if the velcro survives the shakes the van undergoes.

As usual, great video! I was thinking ab,,the camera on d side…. Maybe zip ties perpendicular to existing too and silicone on grabbing areas- I’ve experienced loosening and now it’s DONE!
Ps, how and where is gf?

How is the battery life? How do you keep it from picking things up while in transit? Thanks
