I believe the protec bed produced from 02-03 was the rarest bed option gm produced. They had a unique raised letter tailgate similar to what the avalanche had as well as the entire bed was composite. The only steel on it was the bottom rails and hinge/ hardware assembly. I ended up finding a color matched one for my 04. It was different and had its own cool factor but I’d never seek one out again. The tailgate was not interchangeable with standard beds as well as the hinge hardware was unique making it difficult to find and hard to repair.
I think it looks great with that bed. Stands out and looks tough. Definitely want to get some wide wheels to poke past the fenders and it will bring it all together
That bed fits the front end fenders perfectly !!! And the current rims fit it perfectly. Don’t lift it. It’s perfect the way it is. Just needs a nice clean (not loud) paint job.
Been specializing in Chevy/GMC trucks the past 30 years. Had 4 Q-steers in the past year. They were offered from 2002 to 2005. The bed is all steel, just the outer quarter skins are that composite GM material used on step sides, and Buick front fenders. They are apparently also available in fiberglass via the aftermarket.
The one and only quadrasteer I've ever seen was a sierra Denali on marketplace and it was all murdered out and you could see the body lines just fine she was absolutely beautiful it was just a clean clean simple truck dude wanted $7800 for it so it was out of my price range for a gasser
You’re in a color rut. Take a few minutes and go look through the color palettes from the 1960’s through the 1980’s and see if there is a combination which strikes your interest. You’re looking to do different and interesting, but absolutely everyone does the same blacks, grays and silvers. It’s so boring. There have been so many truly good colors and color combinations which have come and gone through the years. Truck sales brochures are a good place to browse through.
Ok that bed looks 🔥🔥🔥 on there, like a mini dually or hybrid dually. Definitely keep the same factory color. Sweet job picking this up, was a great upgrade
My son has been doing this exact build on his truck including the bed. He’s now on the home stretch working on the interior then new wheels and tires. He did buy spacers for the back end to fill it out better.
My brother is in the middle of restoring his 2004 quadsteer Denali he's done all the body work frame work all he has left now is drive train sweet build man love seeing people keeping gmt 800s Alive
Love the build, especially the bed. It does really need some sort of front fender, or a bigger flare to make it match the rear, in my opinion of course. Keep up the good work brother!
The front end looks great! Amazing what you have done so far. Definitely paint it black. But I would of got the black bed from that guy at the yard and a new regular OEM rear bumper.
I knew it had to be a quadrasteer bed when I saw the video title. I owned a fully optioned 02 quadrasteer. Absolutely the best driving truck I ever had; it went down the road so well. The quadrasteer technology was not a gimmick. If recall correctly it took 12' off of the turning radius. Can't believe gm let it die. They didn't move enough units, not because it was bad tech, but because they could never make it affordable enough. In the beginning years it was +$7k option. In the later years I believe they had it down to the $2k range and only came with the quadrasteer rear diff, not all the other bells and whistles.
Honestly, I like the look of that bed. Definitely different and you just don’t see them too often. It goes very well with it. I would say keep it the same original color.
That truck is come along way man I would definitely keep that bed on there. It looks killer. Nothing wrong with being different. I’ve always been like that my whole life it’s going to be unique. Can’t wait to see it finished. Beautiful Duramax.
Your channel helped inspire me to work on my LB7! Unfortunately she will be parked for the foreseeable future. Just lost the transmission. 😞Going to spend the next few months saving up for a Mark's transmission. After watching him work he will be the guy. I also really like the step bumper on an old truck! I think the bedsides look better with a beefer tire. Buddy of mine had a pewter grey truck and I think it looked killer!
Dude I have never seen this bed on a DMAX and I am a FAN! it gives such a width that makes it look tough. Duramaxes always look big and intimidating from the front but the rear always lacks, now this SOLVES it in my opinion, great build, dude idk why I am liking the stock color too, it matches with like any wheel combo and color
I owned a Quadrasteer 3/4 ton, 2004 ..It had restrictions as I recall backing up. Salt destroyed the braking system.Love that Bed! NO more Black! , ANYTHING but Black..... Graphite would work...
If they gave you back your monetization of your videos I would definitely do a truck give away some time soon and show some love to all of us. I know your really good at doing this stuff on your own and it’s hard to come off of a whole truck build but your authenticity is what keeps us around
@@TruckMaster an izuzu 6bt swap in a 97-2000 2500 ccsb would be bad ass. It’d be like a pre-duramax in a the previous body style in the rarest 2500 configuration
Put a bed cover in fiberglass or plastic over it with windows and paint everything in same color and paint over the chrome and use some more extreme color. That bed rocks on that truck.
We had a quad steer Chevy. Only problem with it was when you get a lot of mileage on the rear component it would look like it ran sideways. But you were able too tuck a bigger tire under it. But look at the weight loss you’re getting from that bed. Full on race truck
I retired from Flint truck. I remember them trucks very well.1500 HD only platform, at least in our plant. The rear axle is wider than the front end and that was a huge issue appearance wise. In my opinion if they would’ve pinched the frame and made the rear axle the same width as the front end, it would’ve changed the out come . Good ole Q44!! PS different color dark metallic green . Or you could leave it up to us viewers by doing a pole.
Find a wheel that offers different widths. Run a 17x9 say up front and 17x12 rear. Stick with keeping it mostly stock! Going over a 17” wheel wouldn’t really be period correct as to how the trucks came from factory! Loving it so far!
I think you should keep it silver birch metallic. It’s one of the best colors on these trucks in my opinion and it’ll look great when the truck is done.
I’m so stoked to see the bed on it especially in this silver birch metallic color!!!! Almost the same color as my mega cab!!! My mega cab 06 5.9 3500 SRW is the light khaki metallic and I love it, don’t see many of these pre emissions diesels this color at all
With the bullet holes and the bed I think it looks killer!! I was on the fence in the beginning of the video but after seeing it with the wheels and tires to combo with it. Love it!! Maybe 1.5-2” wheel spacer in the rear to flush it?
I bought one brand new the year I graduated highschool. I miss that truck. Someone blew a stop sign on me and totalled it out. Wish I still had one. Truck looks really good Josh! My engine is currently at Miller Racing getting built, thank you for the recommendation, Matt has been excellent to work with.
My buddy had a quadrasteer. I was really surprised when I saw it and I had to ask and double check. It’s a good looking truck and the rear steering does still work. It’s used everyday
I’ve had two quadrasteers. They made them from 2002-2004. My dad still has the 04 Denali truck. Definitely some of the coolest and toughest trucks GM ever built. It’s got 240k miles and everything works exactly as it should.
I actually like the bed on there. Was not expecting to. Definitely gives it the pre runner truck look. Some offroad looking 17” wheels with nice tires would look nice. Maybe some welds
Have an '04 Suburban 2500 Quadrasteer. Great truck, 6 Liter runs like a beast. Scary how tight that little bit of rear steering angle can let you turn such a long vehicle.
We had a quadrasteer 1500hd with the 6.0 as a work truck, loved driving that truck. The turning radius was amazing. Imagine lifting a 4wd Quadra steer, would be badass off-road.
The world is crazy. Sitting here watching another great video and you throw the tailgate on and low and behold the dealership logo is from a dealer I used to work for in North Texas. Kinda nuts.
@TruckMaster Small dealer with like 3 or 4 techs in the shop. Dealer was Cadillac and used trucks. Town is about 35000 population so not a lot of those badges out there so that tailgate is more rare that the bed you got.
That bed looks good on there. I'd paint it that blue granite metallic like the hood. it's gonna be a good looking truck when finished. Can't wait to see it finished.
Score…Nice find…. that’s gonna look good..I have an 02 Dually…. The bed is made the same way ( I was really puckering when you took that off the trailer like that…. After 20 years, it gets a little brittle). I totally rebuilt mine. Those side panels I’ve found are reeeeeal expensive. You’ll find some small stress fractures here and there. Use a reinforced fiberglass (with mesh) on the inside, then paint 👍. If you don’t, The body filler will eventually crack with changing temperatures leaving something undesirable. However you do it ….do not take the panels off to make repairs. Make repairs on the truck while bolted. You will want to…..but it’s better to leave them on ( I took mine off …..trust me on that …. save you some frustration👍).
Pewter all the way! I love the way these trucks look! My own awesome and id never have a different color! Plus itll keep all the body accents of that bed!
That’s my hubby! Thank you for supporting a small and upcoming company :) That bed sure does look good!

Yes that is the nicest colour the gmt-800 came in in my opinion
I came to the comments to say just that! Blue Granite metallic if you decide to do a color change.
Ok third comment. Dont do black. If you do black your gonna lose the visual of the bed. The lighter color helps bring out the detail in the bed.
Good point sir
He's right you'll loose the body lines go with something like Is atomic silver or cyber gray
