How good is the Ducati DesertX in the DESERT? Riding a heavy adventure motorcycle in deep sand!

- The Ducati DesertX carries a cool name! But is it actually worth of it and can it live up to it´s legendary Dakar racing inspirer Cagiva Elephant?
I love riding deep sand and dunes on Enduro bikes such as KTM500 and the likes, so I wondered how well the twice as heavy Ducati would do in such environment. Riding my bike from Barcelona, Spain down to Morocco to see how well it actually does in the Sahara desert!

Have you taken your favourite big ADV motorcycle to the dunes? Did you enjoy riding it? If not, would you?
I've taken my Desert X to the dunes. It was cold and humid, which definitely helped with traction, but I also had zero sand experience before this, and I was on stock tires. I came to the same verdict as you, with the predictable and stable handling and great power delivery, it went way better than expected and I had no problems carving dunes.

I love the dents in the tank. That bike is used for its intended purpose. Not a pretty show piece but an off-road predator

Hey Daniel, congrats on owning one of the coolest bikes ever made. It depends on the terrain but usually I keep my TC on lowest level (completely off in sand), power on high and ABS on 1 (rear wheel deactivated)

lol yea.. you would be surprised how clean it was. the downside (terribly inaccessible location) is actually a plus in this regard

Have u drove an africa twin? If yes, would you say u can feel a difference in power at low rpms in rough terrain compare to the Desert X? Does the fancy upside-down fork offers a noticeable improvement?
they are very hard to compare as the Atwin is quite alot heavier to be fair. Atwin also rocks a upside down fork, no?

@@fgnoyola that really depends on your riding style. Most DDX will never see offroad terrain or even challenging enduro scenarios, so for street riding the fork is perfectly fine. for demanding offroad i´m pretty sure most people will tweak it, I myself have a different cartridge installed which makes it much more pliable. but ye..I would say quite comparable to what an 890R has installed OEM. It´s a good fork, better than many other but also what you should expect at that price range

yes! or even normal enduro or mx tires for that matter. the carcass of ADV tires is pretty hard for this terrain
