Another fantastic edition of the Late Brake Show, I enjoyed this very much! I remember when the Fireblade came out, it was such a radical game changer at the time. Now I want one!
Fantastic episode, John and Shane made for a great double act. I loved midway through when John's speedometer was suddenly blurred out... must have been vibration 😉. Shame about the camera Jonny, it was giving some great shots. Stronger mount next time. Looking forward to the next episode.
All those people driving around, going about their daily business with no idea that John McGinness and Shakey Byrne are over taking them. This channel just gets better and better.
The relaxed natural presentor style that Shakey has is incredible when you consider how new he is to this. Each episode he becomes more engaging and you can see it rubs off on any guest he has with him. I am not a bike guy but I find these Byrne Out episodes riveting and cannot wait for the next one. Jonny, any chance you can persuade Harry to let Shakey at the Dakar collection? I think it would make some great TV to see the pair of them blasting around the farm with their mutual enthusiasm for bikes feeding off of each other
That was great. Know both bikes well. The 2020 version with the overly long gearing, before Honda thankfully changed the ratios, does just over 120mph in 1st gear. That's over 15mph more than all the competition. Crazy. Crazier still is where it hits the magic 186mph/300kph... the stock overgeared SC82 model sees the speedo freeze at 186 flat out in FOURTH. So it's anybody's guess what the actual Vmax is 2 gears later. It didn't quite redline in top. A. Real. Weapon! The old one still rocks, best thing is the boot space under the rear seat! Enough room for 4 sideways cans of stella or a Chinese takeaway, if you crush the prawn crackers a bit.
This was great. Reminds me of days when me and some lads would go for a ride just for fun. No sat navs or fancy this that or the other. Just jump on, run some twisty roads, grab a cuppa and a sandwich and come back again. Also great to see you Shakey back on a bike again. It's been four years in the waiting. A decent honest video lads. Thanks..
Great episode. We organised the 30th anniversary celebrations at Donington for Honda UK with our members bringing 1992-2022 blades and lined up in order. The 2022 blade was certainly quick in the hands of John McGuiness that day.
Great video, a really enjoyable watch. I bought a new FireBlade in 1993, it was £7300. A real game changer, so light and compact, almost comfortable. Still a good bike to ride after 30 years, amazing.
Imagine driving along going about your business and these two legends fly past. Amazing video this one. Shane has been an absolute first class addition to TLBS. I hope the broken camera is put on display somewhere so you can casually tell visitors how and who broke it.
Indeed. Was close to Cadwell last week going to Skeg with my son and would have loved to see them on the road! Mind you following my son an Ex BSB racer on a V4S Ducati we weren’t hanging around!
I was approaching the Mountain Box back in June when, what can only have been one of the TT riders went past me at such speed, I didn't think he'd make the turn. He did, it was like poetry in motion, still don't know to this day who it was lol.
Hello from Oz, great video guys, like John I also have bricklayers trophies, after 60yrs in the trade mine consist of a replacement knee, 2 replaced hips & back fusion surgery. What a fantastic career John has had & regardless what he does in the future he's a legend. Cheers & thanks again for an honest & entertaining video.
I remember a friend turning up on a Fireblade when they first came out and being amazed at how small it was compared with contemporary big bikes, and mainly how short the wheelbase was.
This was more than just the bikes. But more about mates going for a ride and having fun. Great episode. Jonny brilliant move to include bikes and Shakey and his down to earth perspective.
Absolutely loved this episode of the Byrne Out! Shakey, John, bookend Honda Fireblades, racing stories, bike reviews and a very noble camera smash( for its first, last and only use it definitely went out on an epic ride)! What a fantastically packed episode! I would say, get these two to do live commentary of the TT when John finally retires from active racing. They could be the Phill Ligget and Paul Scherwin of Motorcycle racing.
Great video! Thanks Shakey and John, both legends! And thanks HRUK too! My adopted son is an EX BSB racer and finally did my full bike license in Jan and done nearly 5,000 miles on the baby blade 2021 CBR650R so far and loving every minute! After maxing the baby blade on German autobahns and failing to keep up with a V4S ducati I am looking forward to more power and some track days in the future! Keep up to great content 👍
Faith in humanity restored. I can remember 20+ years ago watching Shakey hoon around on the roads with Fastbikes on video cassetts before his BSB glory days and John winning TTs, 2 top humble blokes after all their success
I enjoyed this session. Its so genuine, just a couple of real riders with real pedigree having fun on real world bikes that normal people can buy (not necessarily afford).
Master stroke getting Shakey to do these videos. Miss him racing but he is turning into a really good presenter with genuine knowledge and understanding. 👍
Great episode. Met John at the bike show last year - what a lovely bloke he is! He spent time chatting to my kids, gave them autographed posters and a few other freebies too. It really made their day :-)
A couple of legends riding a couple of legends!! Loved every minute of that and remember the first time I road tested a blade, thankyou shakey and Mcpint
I'll say one thing for having professional sponsored riders: they know the importance of naming and crediting the sponsors. I'm glad that EBC Brakes sponsor these shows!
That was an absolute treat to watch, thanks very much. Great to see the smiles on the guys faces. 🙂 To be honest, I was more happy to see both amazing legends of motorsport out and scratching together. Even if they'd been on Honda Step-thrus i'd still be chuffed to watch that. 👍
Got to love Shakey .....Great and natural presenter .. and a really, really nice guy ..... you can tell JM really likes him ...which brings the best out of him too ....Great episode ...
I just loved it when John gave the new fireblade a handful down those country lanes. I had a fireblade exactly like the one on the show. I took it back to the shop I bought it from because it sounded like the pistons were slapping. They was, but it didn't slow my blade down. They were well known for a bit of piston slap! Crazy bike back in the day.
I had an original '92 Fireblade. Still the fastest thing that I have ever driven. I can't imagine what the modern one would be like, the old one was as quick as I ever wanted.
As a 'road bike' the old one is in my opinion the better bike.(17inch front conversion) If you only rode the new ones up to the same rev limit as the old ones you would see why. As you know, you have to 'ride' them, no gizmos like todays stuff. I still have a 96 and sold a 16 blade last year. Yes all the newer stuff is quicker, but for everyday use - No thanks.
I’ve ridden Gsxr’s since 1992 but the CBR900rr as it’s known in the states is the best looking sportbike ever made, in my opinion. The 2022 does nothing for me. Looks like every other sportbike.
utterly brilliant watch... bikes couple years older than me but seeing it again after my dad rode a 900 till the early 2000s till he moved to the gsxr 1000, he passed a few years back, so this was great memories to see! and the Shakey knew he F'ed up had me in stitches
I owned a CBR900 that had dodgy steering in stock form with the 16-inch front wheel. Working with Peter Kates at GMD Computrak, we swapped in a 17-inch CBR600 wheel and GMD steering head. Those bits transformed that beast into one of the sweetest handling bikes I ever rode.
My favourite Byrne Out so far. Shakey and McGuiness are a top double act. So much passion and knowledge (maybe less so on how to build a BSB bike LOL) and infectious, smile inducing riding. We need more of this!
Great episode! Them talking about riding together reminded me of riding around with my friends back in the mid 90's. Brought back some fun memories I had forgotten. I was so jealous of my buddies 900RR back then. Thanks for jogging my memory.
Thank you for the video, it was very informative, I feel honored to have viewed the two legendary bikes together, “The Fireblades” Honda, you’re the best 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽
The first Fireblades were a breath of fresh air. I lived in South London and there were loads around. In the pubs in Streatham we called them the Honda clitoris coz every c+£t had one. Which is why I bought a brand new Thunderace in '95. Lovely bikes though
I had the pleasure of seeing John,s bike at this year's festival of speed it was a pure beauty ,got a photo on phone and spoke to John about it ,he was right chuffed about it ❤️🦂
Remember sitting on them at the showroom floors and feeling how light they felt. My buddy had a few of these along the cbr600rr at the time. That purple/pink 600 was gorgeous too.
Legends from my youth! Loved watching this, I’m just so grateful to have recovered from my horrendous injuries trying to emulate these legends, only with far less talent, and on public roads. Stay safe out there , all bikers!🤣🏴
Great to see the original Fireblade. I bought mine new in Australia 🇦🇺 except for a few kilometers ridden on it by Wayne Gardner around the Mt Panorama circuit in Bathurst. It even had his signature on the tank 😎 It was an awesome bike & am lucky to be alive considering what I used to get up to riding it.
So much joy in one video. Well... except the camera, of course (sorry Jonny). Shakey and McGuinness are two blokes that I could watch natter literally all day. Not to mention the production quality of this video is amazing - the videography, the edit, the music. It's all brilliant. TLBS is just a different standard to the rest of the TH-cam car content out there.
I remember the blade coming out in 92 and blowing everything into the weeds. Still think it's the best looking bike ever. Must get my bike license one day so I can finally ride one !!
Brilliant!!! I have a ‘92 Blade… and I adore it! I’ve owned GSXR’s and Panigales and the Blade is plenty fast enough for me now… and it’s comfortable 👌
I’ve never even sat on a motorbike. They scare the life out of me, but that was absolute top drawer. Two greats of the sport enjoying each other’s company and speaking from years of experience. Lovely, lovely stuff.
That's what we love to hear Nick. One of the goals of Byrne Out on TLBS is to cover bikes, people and access to places which will interest folks who might not love bikes, but appreciate engineering or good stories.
A truly superb episode chaps, not only the legend that is Shane Shakey Byrne but the legend that is John Morecambe missile McGuiness on two beautiful, accomplished motorcycles. Needless to say a legendary episode. Thankyou.
Great episode guys well done. I had the same experience when I picked up my new katana after owning the original. Cant help feel Our generation will be the lucky ones to have experienced such awesome bikes.
Not forgetting Michael Rutter on a Thursday night in practice at the NW200 did 203 mph on the factory Blade. First time over 200 mph timed record on the road. I was there, great days! Great video!
Hi From New Zealand. A mate turned up at my house on an original FireBlade, he got on his cell phone and dangled the keys in my face, I took it for a burn down the road. Seen one for sale recently in New Zealand, hard to find one cheap these days. Owned a few Honda's, CBR1100XX Blackbird 97 model, VTR1000F Firestorm 97 model, 87 Hurricane. The build quality on the Honda's is awesome. Owned a few Yamaha R-1's. Hard to appreciate the original Fireblade with today's bikes as they are so light and powerful but when that first fireblade came on the scene the rivals weighed so much more.
That was such a heartwarming and honest episode. Loved every minute of it!
Can’t agree more mate!!
That old Blade is one of the absolute best-looking street bikes ever made. The colours, the holes in the fairing, the dual headlight....gorgeous
The best being the icon that is Ducati 916
Absolutely love this one. The relationship between the boys is so genuine. Shame about the camera getting smashed!
Another fantastic edition of the Late Brake Show, I enjoyed this very much! I remember when the Fireblade came out, it was such a radical game changer at the time. Now I want one!

Fantastic comment- very real! Crush those crackers!🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is a man I can relate to…..takeaway still hot enough to eat after a 50 mile trip….🤣😊
HAHAHA!! that's so true!! i've had beers in my seat loads!

Loved it, would loved to have seen them 2 cruising down the road!
Two legends on two wheels, plus taking two amazing bikes out. Love listening to this can’t wait till the next
👍🏻
I will keep this simple, absolutely brilliant episode, why can't we get quality stuff like this on telly, well done lads.
Great video, a really enjoyable watch. I bought a new FireBlade in 1993, it was £7300. A real game changer, so light and compact, almost comfortable. Still a good bike to ride after 30 years, amazing.
I have a 1993 fireblade, beautiful and some much fun to drive 😊👍

Loved Shakey running wide on that tightening left hander, it's notorious if you're not expecting it.
What a episode!!! Fantastic listening to these two legends talking shop! John McGuinness on the late brake show. Perfection!
I remember a friend turning up on a Fireblade when they first came out and being amazed at how small it was compared with contemporary big bikes, and mainly how short the wheelbase was.
This was more than just the bikes. But more about mates going for a ride and having fun.

I love that its more of a casual enjoyment/ celebration of bikes rather than an outright review. Keep up the adventures 👌

Just two longtime friends out for a ride out and having the best possible time. Thanks for that boys.
Loved this episode chaps! As a former blade owner it was great to watch and listen to two legends talking blades!
Shakey and McPint, two of the greatest ambassadors of their respective racing discipline of all time. What a great video!

Massive respect to you Shakey and McGuinness!! Bike racers are a completely different breed! Great to see the evolution of the blade over the years!
That’s the biggest smile I’ve had for a while. Mates, bikes, awesome!
Master stroke getting Shakey to do these videos. Miss him racing but he is turning into a really good presenter with genuine knowledge and understanding. 👍
Great video guys. Content is just bursting with quality.
Congrats to Jonny, Shakey and the team for a fantastic product for us to watch.
Cheers 👍🏻
Two great mates riding 2 iconic motors. It doesn’t get much better than that. Well done!

Appreciate the comment 👍🏻
My first love. Saw one for the first time in Putney in 1994 with the orange and gray livery. Love at first sight. Great piece. Thanks!
Really enjoyed that, Shakey is a great presenter and the legend McGuinness is a humble, top bloke.
My favourite Byrne Out so far. Shakey and McGuiness are a top double act. So much passion and knowledge (maybe less so on how to build a BSB bike LOL) and infectious, smile inducing riding. We need more of this!

Great episode Gents!!!!! That Hm Plant Honda with kiyo on it was a rocket !
Couple of legends. Not many/any would keep up with you two if they stumbled upon you on the road, irrespective of what they're riding!!
Thank you for the video, it was very informative, I feel honored to have viewed the two legendary bikes together, “The Fireblades” Honda, you’re the best 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽

Two absolute legends and my hero's. Best 30mins of TV I have watched. Thanks boy's and stay safe!!!
WOW. You guys are just amazing. Thank you for sharing this episode. To see you both on the bikes is just Brilliant 😊👍
3 legend , the blade , and the 2 boy’o’s ,

I had the pleasure of seeing John,s bike at this year's festival of speed it was a pure beauty ,got a photo on phone and spoke to John about it ,he was right chuffed about it ❤️🦂
Could watch these two al day! Need a few more videos with them together!
Good to see you 2 racers out on the public. Roads that aren’t closed on road bikes !! Nice one
Really really enjoyed it , 2 legends and 2 old boys riding them 😊 perfect .
Down to earth bike mates banter, so funny, genuine insight to the blade from 2 gods of biking and yes I had a blade, Urban Tiger, what a machine.
Remember sitting on them at the showroom floors and feeling how light they felt. My buddy had a few of these along the cbr600rr at the time. That purple/pink 600 was gorgeous too.

Just a lovely couple of blokes that love their bikes!
That was fantastic. Thank you for bringing us along.
Brilliant video, I have a first-generation 1993 Fireblade, a beautiful bike, it brings ya back to the 1990s 😊👍
Pair of absolute legends, keep up the good work
Oh thank god for this normal, non-american-style conversation, just calm chatting, a delight to listen to 😊

Not to mention the production quality of this video is amazing - the videography, the edit, the music. It's all brilliant.
Great episode. I remember the Fireblade started off in its design as a 750cc, and only changed midway through the design to 900cc
One of the best TH-cam videos I have watched, doesn’t get any better than mcpint and shakey 👌🏻 absolutely spot on
I met John at Chiswick Honda a couple weeks ago, absolute pleasure to talk to. We even sat down and watched moto2 together!
Pair of classics, both the presenters and the bikes!
I’ve never even sat on a motorbike. They scare the life out of me, but that was absolute top drawer. Two greats of the sport enjoying each other’s company and speaking from years of experience. Lovely, lovely stuff.

Cheers
Brilliant esipode guys with two absolute legends. Great work Jonny, thanks mate. Keep the bike content coming please......
Amazingly-good overall between these two…but then comes the clip at 17:35 and my heart's in my throat. No words to describe that.
Great episode guys well done. I had the same experience when I picked up my new katana after owning the original. Cant help feel Our generation will be the lucky ones to have experienced such awesome bikes.
Great video with Shakey and JM great ambassadors for bike racing and bike riding.
I remember the performance bikes cover telling you to get one before they were banned. An absolute game changer.
Ahhhh the memories!!!
Thanks for a wonderful episode guys!
John McGuiness is a proper blokes bloke. Down to earth, honest as the day is long, hugely successful in what he chose to do.
Love how Shakey’s hitting the apex at a right turn junction with an island…legend
