  • Today I revisit and revamp the first knife I ever made by making another one in the same style! I did this as a fun project for my forging anniversary, and I can’t say I’m disappointed! This really shows how beginner blacksmiths can become much bette rover the years if you just put time and effort into it. Keep forging everyone!

What's the hardening, tempering, heat treat process for rebar?

For hardening/heat treating, I try to take it up to about 1600-1700 degrees Fahrenheit or about 870-920 degrees Celcius (about bright orange in color) and I’ve found that quenching in water works fine. For tempering I’ll do two 1 hr cycles at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and it’s worked well for me. Overall it’s a pretty forgiving steel and great to get started with!
