Nicely done, Andy! One thing I find to help your paint adhere better, is to wash your parts in vinegar because of the amount of zinc in these castings.
Hello Andy at the Garage. Nice little project, that ERF: they're really nice castings. I have just stripped a Platform Trailer WITHOUT the ERF, and they look identical: Corgi were a bit clever with castings back in the day, it seems. You were brave to go with yellow - always a bugger to paint - but if the wheels don't pop easily, and the hub puller doesn't fit, I just cut the axles, pull the hubs, and get some new axles. Nice one - looks very period correct!
Nice restoration Andy.👍 I've never found the Auto Extreme spray paint any good whatever the colour - I found it always bleeds back on raised edges. You were lucky with this casting though, so often the chassis cracks behind the cab. Mine was heavily overpainted but looked okay until I stripped the paint off - fortunately good 'ol superglue and baking powder came to the rescue!
Hello Andy, that's a lovely resto. I really felt for you when the paint came off like that. As you say, I'm sure all who restore modes have had this happen. So disappointing! A quick question, on those types of axles without a "mushroom" end, what actually holds them on and stops them from coming off when it comes to reassemble?
Alan some of them are crimped flat with pliers etc. My first car resto was like this a Crescent Toys Jaguar. These tend to be older models.They are not easy to crimp flat. I’m sure I’ve seen a dab of superglue used over the end also, it may need building up for this to work. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Thank you for that tip. I use standard thinners and or methylated spirit. Anything is worth a go with the yellow though 👍
