      I am also seeing some videos that you can run these off used motor oil just fine. People are even running it unfiltered, but I would likely filter it through an old pair of jeans I have seen people do for running it in their trucks when cut 50/50 with fresh fuel.

    • @TheWickerShireProject
      @TheWickerShireProject 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Used oil we just use a basic filter then drop in a little gas for a biodiesel viscosity and higher , cleaner burn. Dirtier the fuel more often you break it down, open it all up and give a good clean.

    Man your whole demeanor is just so wholesome sometimes, like when you showed us the fuse and said "dont laugh some guys were never shown or learned this", as well as "proho is not good at a few things like some maths and electronic sort of things", and I truly felt that in my soul and was able to even laugh at myself a bit when I'm typically pretty embarassed and ashamed about stuff like that. I guess I sort of was raised by a single mother now that I think of it because my abusive alcoholic father was always working but my mom taught me more than he ever did. Shes gone now (passed in '18 when my firstborn was 6 months old) but at least there's channels like yours that can help teach young men like myself and many others I'm sure who are also alone in this world.

    you can run these on waste or veg oil if you rig up a second tank and fuel selector. You have to get it up to temp on diesel or kerosene. Then shut it down on the same. Ive been using one in a small shed on my property. it works great to quickly get the space warmed up while i get a fire going. Plus just keeping some heat going to keep my water storage from freezing.

    • @sw5334
      @sw5334 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      You do need to do a few things to make it work. First I had to drop voltage from 18v to 12v with a 24->12 converter then cause you don’t want the heater to kill your lipo batteries I installed a little voltage thing that when the voltage drops to a preset level I have it turn the fuel pump off and when that happens the heater goes into shut down/cool down mode. This way protects the heater and batteries.

    Pro-Tip
    I use my jump pack to start one of these 12v diesel heaters to warm my garage. I piggy back a 12v battery charger in parallel to keep jump pack from being completely discharged.
    It does consume a reasonable amount of amperage of on overnight..

    Excellent video as always. Reminded me of the diesel heater experiment videos I've been making for years: my favorite being a waste heat thermal recovery on the exhaust using an old large cast iron steam heating radiator. By the time the exhaust passes through the radiator and to the outside it has dumped almost all its heat and is just warm steam laden air basically. Works a treat, also with generators as well-silences their exhaust as well as a side benefit. You can cook food and heat water on the radiator near where the exhaust from the diesel heater enters, it can get 400°f. Also it's a heat battery due to its large mass, and retains value as scrap, although i'm on winter #3 of heating my garage with a diesel heater hooked to a steam radiator with zero issues over thousands of hours of operation.

    I'm currently in the midst of setting up one of these units. I encountered a minor issue with my portable battery, which has a 10-amp power protection feature that activates during startup, as the unit seems to draw slightly more than 10 amps initially. To resolve this, I've switched to using an AC to DC converter connected to a backup battery for power. As an alternative, I'm considering the use of an affordable AGM battery connected to a charger for portability. It's also important to note that these units are sensitive to power interruptions and can be damaged if they lose power abruptly without a proper shutdown. To help with the transfer of diesel into these tanks, I've bought a battery-operated pump that screws into the lid of my gas can.

    Cody:
    If/when you do a followup, don't forget to mention the importance of maintenance.
    People I know with these swear by them but do say you have to clean them extremely regularly to prevent soot buildup in the chamber and exhaust line that can lead to operation or ventilation failure (so when they're camping they check/clean the exhaust line daily for obstructions.)
    People who are used to propane, kerosene, or white gas heaters might not really understand how...less clean...burning diesel can be.

    A small spring type deal with the fuel line through it, the ID of spring sleeve almost the same as OD of fuel line would stop it kinking. And keep the fresh air intake, inside so you get more heat rather than introducing frigid air. Folks also run the exhaust through a heat exchanger.

    The exhaust out outs the most heat, dont over wrap it, but do duct theexhust out side but longer the exhaust pipe the more heat you can reap

    Got the same thing different labels in a 12x24 shop that’s insulated and in a hour or so it brought it up from 60’s to almost 80° temps measured with a handheld laser thermometer

    Another point is do not disconnect the 12 volt battery until the unit has gone through it's cool down cycle if you pull the battery before the cooldown cycle you can fry the main computer as it's contained within the housing of the heater unit if power is lost and the unit has not cooled down it will bake the motherboard

    Suggest an inline filter as sometimes you might unwillingly have crud in your fuel container. And the pulse type pump is a bit finicky.

    If you have the clicker pump seize up on you you can hit it with an 18 or 24 battery to get it unstuck works night times out of 10 and get you out of a jam if you don't have a second one laying around I have done this and got them going again this is why I put marvel in my when I run straight diesel instead of kerosene

    Just here to remind everyone to make sure power is OFF on the ecoflow (or equivelant) if you're going to do something like this with aligator clips.
    I used to do things like the "aligator clip workaround" you did. Too easy to accidentally touch both clips when dis/assembling. I don't do those anymore and recommend others don't either.

    ...with the Snap On branding so perfectly framed in the shot I might wonder if they weren't a "secret" sponsor... :)
    .. just teasing ya... I'd be a little proud of my Snap On stuff, too...
    ..and the folks that are upset and tell to buy the lesser product... I'd guess they just don't know. Buy the best quality that you can. It is worth it.🙂

    Looks very cool. Only con is the having to vent the exhaust. Put an amp meter on the neg, or pos battery cable so we can see how much current it draws.

    not sure if someone pointed it out or not yet but for the 12 volt supply on those noco charges you need to hold down the button for 3 seconds without the clamps connected. it should go into 12 V supply mode, if you have it on a battery and hold for 3 seconds it will go into 12v repair mode. hope this helps.

    From the recommendations on the website, they said you have to run a pipe outside due to the CO2 levels. Probably just run a pipe inside the stove or outside, true. Was looking at this to heat a chicken coop in the winter. Gas heater is fine, but you can't use that in the garage, takes up too much space, but this would be perfect.

    I didn't know they were called Anderson connectors. I just know, they use them for battery charger or snow plow connector. My Dad use stake-on pliers.

    I have been running 3 of the vevor heaters for the last 4 years, in Wisconsin so it gets cold. between my shop trailer and my bus/rv and they work well. And for the cheeper price you can even have a backup in case one does die. But I have not had any due in the last 4 years

    Thanks for making the video. Have been dabbling at the idea of picking up an all-in-one diesel heater myself.
    I might suggest you take a look at Lista or Vidmar toolboxes before declaring a gold standard. Used heavily by the machinist industry and can be found for a reasonable price as they don’t carry the snapon name.

    I've seen those before but not a complete set up to run video. That looks to be a good back up heater.
    Can't wait to see the followup.

    Great video ! Good to have you back. Battery charger usually senses voltage on the battery. Without it I don’t think these smart chargers will turn on.

      Some smart chargers (i believe that one Cody used has this option!) Can be switched to a constant output in order to run 12v things for testing. He just needed to turn his unit off and then hold the button down and it would be able to switch to a repair mode or a constant mode.
