You get better rewards (Reaper legendary skin, emblem, name card, spray) for WATCHING someone play the game right now (15 hours on twitch) than you do for playing the event.
What did u expect, after blizzard changed overwatch 1 to overwatch 2 it was all planned to make maximum profit, to convince customer to buy skins for money instead to earn them. All the overwatch player how buy and supporting this shit is to blame for the bad ov2 state right now. Blizzard gets a confirmation from all skins buyers, that they can do whatever they want, there will always be someone dumping several hundred dollars/euros in skins.
Dude, shortly after I stopped playing Overwatch which was many years ago I saw a post about the then next summer update and there was a track racer skin. To this day I have no idea which character that was but I think about it every now and then since they like to pretend how good their game design is
@@Thornskadei mean, the game feels oncredibly optimized and fluid. It is a very well designed game if we are talking about the gameplay and not the prices and acquisition methods for skins.
you are 1000% correct. OW2 is so unrewarding compared to OW1 that it actively feels like a slap in the face when they do "reward" you. Like that pittance of a fraction of a skin or garbage item is going to make you feel rewarded
I personally would not trade Ow2 for Ow1, that shit was an un coordinated unbalanced and limited freedom hellhole of itself. Also the number of present day characters is better.
It's a rewarding game for me, as someone who feels rewarded for besting my opponents. I dont care about skins in a video game. How about buy some fresh fits instead? The ladies love a well dressed man.
I tried it for the first time a couple months ago and I've been playing it quite a bit. I don't really understand the hate. What other hero shooter feels as good? Concord? That quake one? I loved tf2, but tf2 isnt competitive whatsoever despite the community trying to force it to be with lame rules. As far as i know, there's really no good alternative to overwatch. Maybe apex legends, but thats a battle royale.... so.... overwatch enjoys the same privilege as World of Warcraft. The base design of the game is fun enough and there isnt any good competition for either of the games, so they become the only option. But OW2 really is fun to play and feels so fluid. Idk. I get its fun to hate blizzard and their shitty microtransactions, but the game itself is super fun as someone who really doesnt have a dog in this race and only recently played for the first time.
No that metaphor doesn't work because Overwatch 1 wasn't abusive. It's more like going back to an old restaurant you used to love; but it has a new owner and all the recipes have changed and are bad now, but they are also charging you double what you used to pay.
The funniest part of reselling the classic skins in bundles is that you CANNOT EQUIP said skins while playing the classic mode. It only uses the default OW1 skins.
Blizzards video game road plan: Make a fun video game. Ruin it with updates and a terrible sequel. Over promise things and cancel features. Wait until everyone starts hating the game. Re-release the original!!!! They did it to WoW and I guess they did it to Overwatch.
WoW is good, OW is good, every Blizzard product and service is top tier. Blizzard is a fine company, and an even finer developer. Y'all are just hating. I will work there one day.
@@ni9274do you live under a rock to forget the promises they did and end up cutting content killing the first overwatch and no free campaign as they also promised but they lied too

@@Aves_1 yeah the fact lootboxes look like a fair and equitable transaction is something I find hilarious. you can get more from a box than all the battle passes and bundles in the world. XD and Blizzard cant have that.
Dude, you realize that 1/3 of adults can't read beyond a 6th grade level? At least in america. Once you look into statistics like those, you'll realize why people spend money on this stuff.
Just give me the ORIGINAL Overwatch back please. It seems Blizzard is out of ideas so slapping another "classic" title on another game is the best they can do.
Ow2 is a mess because it never had a real goal. It was crazy casual, then it was super competitive with its own league, then it became ow2 with a pve campaign that was eventually cancelled for focus back on to casual pvp game. The best way to enjoy ow2 is to forget about your rank, never open the shop, and play like 2 hours a day max ( which is still kind of a lot ). Say glhf and gg and focus on yourself.
you want to have fun in OW2? Shut your brain off play game with friends dont care about meta, progression, cosmetics etc because ignorant is bliss in this game since both DEV, higher ups, and players hate this game
@@safiragemsmiss me with that BS. the devs care a shitload about the game. that isn't even a question. if you disagree, watch Spilo's interview with Aaron and Alec from a few days ago. watch Gavin Winter speak about the systems he's in charge of. look up talks given by their character designers. their passion is obvious if you don't like the game then don't play it. but don't pretend like you speak for the millions of other people who also play this game, and who do so because -- and this might sound crazy -- they actually enjoy the game
all the og people at respawn have left afaik, they probably just jammed an earlier build of the game and cleaned it up a bit put it and put it in apex (idk)
Blizzard realized their mistake: _Overwatch_ was designed primarily to be a game. _Overwatch 2_ was built from the ground up to give people excuses to give money to Blizzard.
Overwatch died years ago, digging up its corpse to eldritchly force back into the current skinsuit isn't convincing anybody. Edit: Clearly everyone has forgotten the existence of Overwatch 1, which IS a dead game since it no longer can be played. I personally think OW2 is a skinsuit and them referencing 1 to try to get more micro-transaction sales is just cruel. I never said OW2 was dead, I was talking about OW1.
@@jasongrundy1717 yeah.... it's a shell of its former self... there's a reason why i stopped playing overwatch the moment they killed the original title and free to play.
I remember when games weren’t stores and FOMO “battle passes” with a game play loop attached. I feel great sorrow for all the children born and raised on this cancer.
people keep comparing this to valorant and apex greediness lol at least both game didnt have THIRTY-ISH HEROES that each of them need cosmetics which made this game equally as expensive as both the other two are just way more popular
I know hating on loot boxes was the norm back in the day but look everyone hated it and to replace that we just got stupidly expensive skins instead and worst free rewards. meanwhile in the past while not guaranteed you did have a chance of getting legendary skins.
I laugh every time I see this. The studios won, gamers are actually saying 'lootboxes weren't that bad'. The Overton window moved, and you all paid for the privilege lmao
@@Blisterdude123 lootboxes were and still are shit, blizzard someehow manage to create a lootbox system that wasn't total garbage and decided to burn it all down for the generic ass battle pass formula and overpriced skins
It's not the lootboxes people are missing, but getting rewards for playing the game and currency to buy the cosmetics you actually wanted eventually. Blizz's old lootboxes are still bad
@@Blisterdude123 Loot boxes weren't that bad when you compare them to everything being overpriced because the companies are selling you the cosmetics straight up. That's not people saying "Hey loot boxes were decent", it's literally people saying "They made things worse than this pseudo-gambling system that we used to have" - two different arguments. To me, loot boxes are a fine free way to get cosmetics to players. Use them as part of a rewards system that supplements the cash shop. OW1 did that decently, the only problem is that the cash shop was more loot boxes. However, the ability to earn loot boxes, and in effect higher end cosmetics, helped keep people coming back. The duplicates turned into coins that could get used on more cosmetics. That's how a loot box system should work. The problem isn't the idea, it's how most companies execute it. Loot boxes are a good idea, greedy companies ruin the idea to line their pockets. It very rarely works in practice because the companies try to milk every penny out of the players.
I actually didn’t mind loot boxes. When I played during the first two years of the game, I got more than enough loot boxes simply from enjoying the game to get the cosmetics I wanted. The currency helped mitigate bad luck. But the game also felt like it was inherently fun, and the cosmetics were bonuses, instead of the core feature they eventually became.
I love how every pvp game basically goes through the same cycle. Casually fun, rewarding, not super serious but has some serious elements like ranked Developers/Publisher see $$$ and goes "let's make an esports" Game fundamentally shifts away from original design and becomes comp oriented Game slowly dies off and loses its playerbase due to unrewarding game/toxic playerbase. Developers/Publishers are forced to then gouge their playerbase with nonsense mtx models to fund their game that is now an unrewarding hamster wheel.
Its not the comp that kills it, they attracted a comp playerbase, just to ruin all competitive integrity. Which trickles down to the casual players too who also start to hate the game. And then everyone quits.
When we had lootboxes, you were always garanteed to get enough currency to get exactly what you want at some point. You could even save in preparation for an event. I was never unhappy of what I got in a lootbox, because I knew it at the very least would get me closer to a reward I want. Not anymore. I log back for an evening a couple times a year when there's a gameplay change I like then promptly leave again because there's nothing to earn.
My eyes could not have rolled further back in my head upon learning about all the monetization schemes and prism crap in OW2. Overwatch fell completely off my radar around when the cowboy lady and her robot sidekick came around. I earned so many legendary skins in OW1 by simply just playing. I loved that game and as a result, I was rewarded with cool stuff to show off my time devotion. I can't believe all of that is completely gone, and replaced with this soulless garbage. We really didn't realize how good we had it. Aside from the $40 I spent on the game initially -which we don't talk enough about how they ripped that away from us by straight up deleting OW1-, I never spent a penny on that game otherwise.
It's really unfortunate how bad Overwatch 2's framework is, cause even with how bad it is, Classic DID get me to reinstall the game after quitting 6+ years ago, around when Moira released. And man, it really shows what we lost in the end. With the push for Esports and constant rebalancing, bloating the roster with new heroes that aren't fun to play against and require tons of fixes after launch, and the general push for greedy microtransactions under a free-to-play model, it's hard to remember just how FUN the game was originally. It was definitely pretty unbalanced and had its own issues, but it was a lot simpler and easier to follow with the smaller roster and more defined kits. Game was just a lot more fun when it was meant to be a fun team-based FPS, and not an Esport.
I know of a certain game that has BOTH casual fun AND competitiveness in a class based first person shooter .... Some people think they can outsmart it , and yeah , maybe , but he has never seen someone outsmart bullet
OW Classic showed that the devs know what they are doing with their heroes but now? defense heroes are in the trash and unsatisfying to play. except maybe bastion hanzo widow also they are very interactive like torbjorn armor and symmetra shield giving new way to support rather than just healing
Yes, I agree that the way they do cosmetics isn't great. But do you honestly think people are logging back in to play ow classic primarily to earn rewards? That's ridiculous. If people played ow2 for the rewards then the player base would speak about the game more highly.
Yeah I haven't bought a single skin in ow2, or a loot box back in ow1. Was in it for the gameplay. Also with old lootboxes, if you didnt get the legendary skin, you could atleast get it next time by buying it with ingame currency. Something you earned by playing the game.
Remember when in some older multiplayer Games when you Met someone Who had some form "prestigious" costume to show off that they grinded or that they were pretty good at the game? That was cool. Now when we see this stuff we Just Say "huh look at that dude, he spent 100 bucks or more for that"
I play Overwatch casually, I don't want to engage with battlepasses, and I thought I'd get all the heroes as that's what OW promised me when I bought it full price. I did not expect infinite skins, nor am I asking for that. I don't even understand how to unlock the heroes now.
Overwatch spenders will continue telling Blizzard that this business model is ok. People keep buying what they're offering so Blizzard has no reason to stop.
Yea... What really needs to reset? The people who make games... Until we can replace these greedy companies with fresh ones that can deliver quality. We will only get the same crap...
The executives who run the companies* The devs don’t make the money decisions. So people need to stop giving them money by buying overpriced cosmetics. That’s the only way to get those executives removed. Give them bad quarterly reports.
Idk, as someone who is old enough to have watched this happen over and over and over with my favorite game companies, it is just bound to happen to any company that continues to grow. Literally every gaming company I have watched grow big since I was a kid has grown so big that they become hollow shells of their former selves or get bought out by bigger companies and the same thing happens. Every game company I have loved has sold their souls to corporate overlords eventually. edit: the only exception I can think of off the top of my head is Team17.
Bellular talking through all the steps about the currency is hurting my brain. Remember when we used to just play and unlock shit... whats with all these damn hoops I am forced to jump through... its so convoluted. Its no wonder these games lost me.
Ahh- I miss overwatch 1. I wasn't into those kinda games at first but I got it since people at work were playing it. I got super into it in the end I hated lootboxes, but OW1 was generous and gave them out pretty often. I never usually put money into cosmetics but it was so genarous that I'd genuinely look forward to finishing a match, opening a bundle and going 'Oooo- new voice line' For the first time in forever- I actually bought stuff. Loved the custom mode- playing boss battles and such. I stopped playing rank after it felt a little too sweaty and just played the custom modes- hide and seek, tag etc. Lots of fun. I stopped being super active for a while, only coming in for events which were creative. My work actually would put torniments on the big screens instead of football which was awesome. T Then OW2 was announced and I was like 'Oh? What are they going to do new? Oh! New PVE stuff? Love PVE stuff!' Nah, it just became a more greedy OW1. No lootboxes, all free to play junk, tourniments fell over as they mistreated the teams by forcing them to remove a player. Balancing had been all over the place for a while- OW2 didn't really help. Tiz a shame
Overwatch Classic is kinda silly, since the thing most people complained about with the move to Overwatch 2 wasn't how different the game was (in fact, people were saying that calling it a sequel was kind of a joke). It was that they had purchased a game, and were told that this purchase would give them access to all the future content of that game, save a few skins locked behind the lootcrate system. So uh... unless they wanna ditch the f2p model, I don't think an "Overwatch Classic" is going to be very successful, but who knows. Maybe nostalgia runs deeper than reason.
Eh, JQ is genuinely the best thing to come out of OW2 imo, so that's one thing ow1 didn't have lol (yet...because I'm pretty sure she was teased during ow1?)
I was so hyped to see if they'd added the cards back at the end, you know the ones that said This player stayed on point for X-time, etc. and you could vote on people. It was so hype getting a 5 or even 10 person upvote.
Talking about the OW Classic event as a "Shop Event" is really disingenuous. Skins aren't even enabled in the event so if you're a returning player you aren't insensitivised to get the new drip no matter what they're selling, and the rewards being lackluster isn't an issue either, because they're here for the classic gameplay not any rewards in a game that abandoned it's identity. Totally correct about OW2 being overall greedier and less rewarding, just really poor reporting to not bring up how the mode feels and to bring up the shop that isn't even compatible with the game mode.
ngl i dont give the slightest fk about any rewards for the event or anything in the shop Im just enjoying *playing* the game. They didn't need rewards for me to play for the first time in years.
Imagine having better rewards by watching the game on Twitch than playing the game! Its just hilarious at this point! I'm guessing the ship is going to sink once Marvel Rivals drops, unless they are as predatory and greedy as Blizzard which at this point in time wouldn't even surprise me.
Personally. Im enjoying the 6V6, with my friends. Its been nicer than some of the other modes theyve launched. I have 0 interest in giving Blizzard my money
I do have to say, the breathless "this is what it will cost to buy EVERYTHING!" reporting has never appealed to me. Why do we apply this model to games? Does anyone make a list of how much it would take to order the entire menu at McDonalds? Or to clear out a Macy's? I think Overwatch has gotten a lot wrong over the last few years, and if people playing the game are not happy with the cost of things, that's fair, but I don't think that "buying every single thing" should be considered a reasonable goal for an average player. The whole point of a F2P system is that most players will not have ALL the things, that is what whales are for. I think the standard for the average player should be what it costs to get SOME of the things, one or two items that you _really_ want, rather than what it might take to also acquire a bunch of stuff that you probably don't personally care about because they aren't for your main anyway.
Yeah especially with cosmetics, take Call of Duty - I have a lot of cosmetic stuff on my account, but I only use less than 1% of it because I don't care about the other stuff.
He didn't do that, though? The points were about singular skins costing more than entire games, and free players having nothing to chase. The cost of one or two items you really want is still prohibitively expensive compared to it's contemporaries.
@@mintparfait And those are fair points, I was not disagreeing with those. There was still a lot of "oh, there's this, and then there's that, and then there's this other thing you might want to get" talk. It frames the discussion around the volume of options as a whole, rather than each specifically, though he did _also_ get into that part.
I think if the game were to be released for the first time today, as it is in its current state, nobody would be that pressed about the pricing yeah some would complain about the high prices, but not nearly at the levels people do today. I think there's an emotional component to it "I bought Overwatch 1 for $40 and therefore I deserve to get all future content & skins for free, FOREVER. And now that I have to pay for things again, I feel betrayed." I think the real sin here is that they sunset OW1
@@DoctorPhileasFragg I dunno. I thought it was kind of funny, as long as the meme poses don't become every single victory screen ever. If that happens, then it just seems like it'll turn into the OW version of Fortnite making Goku or Wolverine do the griddy. I really hate that that is a sentence.
Blizzard is scrambling, Bobby did his damage and left with a FAT BAG of money and left everything in such a state that I don't believe they'll recover from. It's sad because this game was the best for so many years and I made some amazing friends playing it but those days had come and gone. It's just the end I fear, monetization over quality has just taken the industry by storm and it shows.
It's not that you literally can't go back home, the same places and sometimes people are still there - but the new time you spend there won't be the same as the old days you're remembering. I feel for anyone who needs to play this.
Bro half this video wasn’t even talking about ow classic, just shop prices. I don’t care about complaints about optional cosmetics buy it if you want or don’t I don’t care it doesn’t change the game play.
buyable cosmetics are supposed to showcase the player's style choices for a bit of extra money spent. but at these prices, it only makes me cringe at the buyer for spending unreasonable amounts of money on trying to show off. "i've spent THIS much on this digital stuff! am i cool yet?" or worse still: "behold the amount of wealth i can burn for the sake of clout, peasants!"
13:42 this for me. I sank an average of 2.5 hours a day from beta to the end of OW as just a casual player who wanted a fun game after work. Even with the announcement of Classic mode, I feel no incentive to hop back in. The entirety of OW2 is to get into your wallet. There's absolutely nothing fun about the game, at least for me.
I dont get it, just play the classic gamemode if you want and there's that. Play for the sake of playing. Its not like you get forced to open wallet and I dont want you to as well, but you can play without spending, its possible
@@Cat_in_The-Box Getting rewards was part of the game. The gameplay is the hook, the skins were a cherry on top. The overwhelming majority of players enjoy getting cosmetics for their favorite characters. And its completely reasonable to detest a scummy monetization scheme in a game that once had a much more reasonable and generous reward system. The gameplay has gotten stale because the devs have actively undermined the gameplay aspects that made it unique, and now they're rubbing the old version of the game and the scummy monetization in people's faces. Its unreasonable to talk to people like these concerns are illegitimate.
That's what I've been saying since the profit model of OW2 was showed : yeah, loot boxes weren't great. However, if you played the game, you ended up with at the very least the coins to buy the cool skins you'd want. Now, if you want any cosmetic that isn't either shit or that literally everyone else has, you NEED to pull out your wallet. No real worthwhile rewards within the free track of any event or battle pass. My whole friend group moved on with 5v5 being a shoddy mess that made half the tank roster essentially unusable for way too long and just threw off team cooperation even further down the drain when not playing as a full stack. We all ended up uninstalling it, and even Classic doesn't light even the smallest spark. Some of us in my group played damn near only Overwatch, and the transition to 2 just all made us go elsewhere. Some to Valorant, some to Siege, some to League (bless their souls)... I hope they are raking in money because otherwise, was it really worth it?
I feel like everyone talking about "yea the lootboxes were better in OW1" is gonna teach these companies the wrong lesson. I want to earn an actually usable amount of premium currency by just interacting with the game, something like a free battlepass or some other system that rewards me so I'm encouraged to play the game more rather than exploiting my psyche and giving kids a future gambling addiction. I want respectable methods of earning decent amounts of premium currency. I want to have a shop where i can go DIRECTLY buy whatever item I want for REASONABLE PRICES and not 1 skin being worth as much as an entire game (the entire masterpiece that is Terraria cost 10$ on steam how do we let them charge us ~20$ per skin)
There was no premium currency in OW1. The currency was earnable from lootboxes which can be earned fairly easily for free just by playing, I don't think you could just buy the currency with real money, only lootboxes. You can then use the currency to buy any items which were all fairly priced based on only categories and rarity. It was honestly one of the fairest lootbox system. But if there were a way to earn it consistently it would have been better, yes.
But lootboxes were unironically better. That's it. That's the entire reason. There is no actual reward structure anymore, so we all damn well know the fact that we would prefer lootboxes is sad as hell that even THAT is preferable to what little we have now.
@@UltimaKeyMaster ...I don't really care that they're "better" (those that choose the lesser of 2 evils often forget they still chose evil) my whole point is I think the common phrasing needs to be addressed. You actually took time to nuance out my key thing: LOOTBOXES ARE VERY BAD. That's the important thing to note in these discussions, the fact that we have somehow gotten worse is insane yes we agree. My whole thing is though we cannot let them get away with 2 steps forward 1 step back. Their dream situation is for us to want the lootboxes back means they can dodge all flack "we listened guys", all while still encouraging outright gambling. I just want a direct non-exploitative storefront and an actual free battlepass other than a fkin spray or charm every 20 levels to give me progress incentives.
Time for my boomer moment. When I was a kid (02' baby for timescale) If I saw someone with a cool ass skin or something all I needed to do was level up enough to get it or at worst figure out what achivement they had to get to unlock it... not have to beg my mom for her card to buy this weeks item shop trying to FOMO me or go to a virtual casino and pray the numbers that are algorithmically driven to exploit peoples (and most importantly children's) "gambler instincts" are somehow in my favor.
I think the change from Loot Boxes to the Season Pass model is really what broke Overwatch for me. I was never a serious Overwatch player but I did like to load the game up every day, play the one match, get a loot box and quit out. When I opened the box, it was usually something I didn't want or need, but it at least felt like I was getting something. And hey, on rare occasions, I did get something I wanted, or during the Holiday events, the chances were slightly increased. Now? Season pass experience, only. And since I'll never buy a season pass, or be serious to grind out various tier nonsense, the game is all-but dead to me.
Overwatch beta wasnt in 2017 it was actually in early 2016 and alpha was in December of 2015. Overewatch's full original release date was May 16th, 2016
A game's store should work like this: "Play game. Get points. Spend points on specific item i want. Done." Games don't do that anymore. I played Multiversus for two seasons and surprise surprise, unlocking specific characters you want was just made harder in order to encourage spending money. Fuck it, looks like yet another game for me to discard and delete. Live service games are a bane to this industry.
Crazy how the people saying "overwatch is dead!!!" in 2018-19 were so right and yet could not imagine how bad it would really be. I used to be sort of upset that only a few of my friends played overwatch because I didn't want to play any kind of solo queue. Now I'm glad that we all stopped playing it way back then before it really killed itself
@@BellularNews Mate, I hate to be that guy, but I think Blizzard "showing Overwatch some love" is what ruined the game. The switch from Overwatch to Overwatch 2 is why I never played it again.
remembers reforged and getting ALL the save files and custom map and campaign files deleted as soon as a out-of-blue 20 GB patch for a 20 year old game starts to download Yeah, funny that In my defense I was aware of reforged it just slipped my mind and I randomly decided to play a round of survival chaos and got jumpscared. Then I hard shut it down in task manager and opened torrented 1.19 instance because I just wanted a half hour of fun, and then I found everything cleared out.
I just don't play Blizzard games anymore, remember Warcraft Reforge? that's the company who make these games now. Remember Jeff? and probably many others most people never heard off. They left because they knew it too. 90 dollar mount in WoW isn't love for the game. It's still just a sinking ship.
12:10 is literally best moment why OW is fundamentally a bad competitive fps game... when a lamp blocks half of your shots when an enemy is in clear sight... and this was a problem back at release too...
I find it hard to find the “news” here. There must have been dozens of videos on this channel on OW2 at this point and they all somewhat overlap on each other. We completely understand that OW2 is scummy and their monetization is outrageous compared to OW1. I just don’t get bringing it up every month.
Because people forget, and some people clearly wish people would forget. Those would be the people that dislike bringing up the shitty monetization because it's shitty. If you don't like that news, how about tell Blizzard to make a better game.
I still find it astounding that Blizzard is the first company to make players beg for lootboxes to return because it was leagues better than the current reward system and monetisation.
lootboxes being in the shop for you to gamba away all of your money is bad. a free to play player gaining a lootbox around every 3-4 matches with a chance of gaining actually interesting cosmetic rewards was more than half of why I played overwatch in the past. now I NEED to pay for every BP and each BP gives you 60+ voices/sprays and up to 70 mythic points and 6 skins.... if you play enough...
"Stop protesting, Tracer. You're putting on the cat-suit, or you're out of a job. We won't be able to keep the lights on otherwise, and it's all gonna be your fault." -Blizzard Overwatch Pimp, probably.
@Digitaldreamer7 I don't know where you got this date because it is wrong, Overwatch 2 started on October 4th 2022 and overwatch 1 ended October 3rd 2022. And it is an event that is bringing back specifically the launch state of overwatch 1 which is 8 years old and very different from any other time during overwatch's life
What a depressing video with a depressing comment section. As a person who had a fun little time playing the mode and seeing other people enjoy it, I was very interested to see the criticism when I saw the video title and thumbnail but it’s just a rant about cosmetics. And barely a peep about the gameplay. Rewards? Like at some point I’m not Pavlov’s dog, if the game is bad, I don’t care what reward I get for sitting through it. Why is a videgame being mainly merited based on cosmetics? You can’t even pick your skins in the event?? It’s just default. Madness. The catgirl bundle being $50 is wild tho.
@ Which is why I said it’s depressing. It’s obviously farming the discontent of the people that have long decided they don’t like this game regardless if they ever played it or not. The most interesting part is where he talked about the comparison of what Warcraft is doing which provided context of how they made more efforts in their remaster of that. But that conversation was towards the end and cut far short for what it could’ve been. Instead there was just droning on about cosmetics not being rewarding as if that makes any significant impact in gameplay. But what it does do for his video is engage people who don’t care how well Overwatch did or didn’t do on the game mode but like hearing about larger narratives such as “live service games bad” and “games used to be better”.
Isn’t it amazing that one doesn’t have to spend a dime to enjoy the full game and the purchase of cosmetics are totally the decision of the player? Seems fair.
Overwatch 2 ranked is the best its ever been and I play all the time with my friends.. Yeah the classic mode is cringe but its just blizzard devs showing people how far theyve gone and how 2CP was bad. Queue time are instant almost at all times... not sure what you're on about
it's popular to hate on Overwatch, and doing so gets views I agree that OW2 is currently as good as 5v5 has ever been, and I'm actually enjoying it more than I remember enjoying OW1 at its best it's valid to complain about pricing, but at the end of the day, the best part of OW2 (the game itself) is 100% free. you can pay nothing and have just as much fun with the default skin
In all honesty, I don't really care if they overprice skins or make some of them unavailable for free to play players. I'm just glad I can play the game to it's fullest without giving even a dime. Let whales pay 50$ for their fetish skins if they want, I'll just continue playing the game without spending money on it ever - the way I like it.
I truly believe overwatch 1 just changed things too quickly. If they released MAYBE a hero a year and balanced them properly, it may not have died so abruptly. the GOAT meta really killed it for most people
most people never experienced goats. that took a level of coordination that you couldn't get until Masters if not GM. nobody was actually running it in the metal ranks
Why couldn't it be an actual 6v6 mode? Why classic? This isn't gonna change anything. Overwatch is dead and it's depressing to see itsit'scorpse paraded around.
On the one hand I get what you're syaing, but shouldn't the primary reward to playing a game be, you know, the enjoyment of playing the game? Like, of course I'd love to earn free loot boxes again so I could hoard recolor skins for heros I literally never play. I guess that was neat and i did it for literally half a decade. But tons of people had dozens of lootboxes left unopened, becuase they just didn't really care. You play the game for the game-play. Look, bottom line is that Blizz has to monetize their game somehow. You want the skins? buy them. You don't like the prices? Don't buy them, but literally none of that changes the game in any substantive way, and the monetization of OW? Dude, compared to Valorant or Apex its actually far FAR more resonable and less predatory. In the free to play era of modern games, you can, you know... play for free. No, you're not getting free skins, but a free game? Yeah, you DO get that. That's actually a pretty sweet "reward." Let the suckers subsidize your recreation. Until a game goes pay-to-win, or pay-to-unlock-content, complaints about monetization reaveal an out of touch lack of understanding of the financial reality of modern game companies. The game is Free. Literally Free. All game modes. All heroes. All maps. FREE. and that's somehow still too expensive?
Thank you! Someone with common sense, sure its monetization but at the end of the day its optional and significantly less predatory than other titles. People have to complain about something I guess, but I’m more annoyed with the constant unhappiness from players than the optional skins.
except it isnt free, i paid money for this game. i have an overwatch disc and they took the progression out of a game i paid money for. i cant earn skins for heros that were in the game day 1. its fun to hop on and a play a match or two with your friends still, but we all wanna get on something else when we're reminded that our grandkid's grandkids might be able to afford a legendary skin someday.
@@DRGEngineer I appreciate that point of view. But like I said, we got free skins for over half a decade. I think the pricing is silly, and I miss the free loot boxes, but also acknowledge that my 60 dollars 8 and 1/2 years ago doesn't enable them to keep creating new maps, new game modes, and new heroes. Let me frame it like this hypothetical: you get free loot boxes again BUT you have to pay $20 dollars to unlock Mauga, and $10 to unlock play on Midtown, and $10 to play on New Queen Street, and $20 to unlock Kiriko, and so on. Is that a preferable scenario? The reality is that you didn't pay for Ana with your launch copy of the game. Again, I appreciate that it's a bummer that free skins went away, I agree. But as a game, OW is one of the least predatory most consumer-friendly live service games available. a $25 dollar skin is ridiculous, but I'll happily not buy it while playing as Sojourn on Circuit Royale 100% for free.
you really cannot judge the success of this event by the steam stats. Overwatch Classic appeals to the original OW1 players who have stopped playing when OW2 released. They wouldve had it already installed and just need an update, or reinstall it through the BattleNet client. They probably dont even know its on steam.
We've gone full circle, and that in the most literal sense. After 8 years of development on the game, they realized that the best state it ever was was AT LAUNCH
Not really. In my opinion the best state was around season 4. Also it's not like they reverted the whole game back to Ow1 1.0, just a limited time event (unfortunately because after that I will be done playing this game with my friends, again)
We all knew back then that all these small things to earn in your lootbox where there to dilute the pool of actually getting worthwhile items. So the developers now considering them actual rewards for something is to me an insult to their players.
sit down. this game is FREE. cosmetics don't matter in the game. OW1 had a $40 box requirement to entry. just dont be dumb with FOMO and this game is no problem for your wallet
It's not free. Other people just pay your way if you're not. Also, cosmetics are as important to the game as the gameplay. You are very clearly a gen alpha tablet baby with the kind of indoctrinated corpo propaganda you're spewing.
There's something poignant about companies trying to sell you the products they made, but with the last decade-or-so of work removed. It's like they're admitting it would've been better if they just left it alone.
I played that 6V6, it was as if Blizzard intentionally brought in all the worst aspects of the game so we wouldn't ask for it again. Back in the 90's there was a game called World of Warcraft. They charged $10 a month overtop the game price and they explained why: servers cost money. So people paid it. I buy the battle pass, about $5 a month to help keep the servers alive and with it I get a number of skins and sprays. Fair enough. $25 for a skin? (censored) that! And honestly, I think this may be my last battle pass. Game has gotten old.
Blizzard released OWC to prove to the playerbase why they needed to change to 5v5, but all it did was remind everyone how much fun OW used to be, and how completely silly the 5v5ers are...

I hated lootboxes, but OW1 was generous and gave them out pretty often. I never usually put money into cosmetics but it was so genarous that I'd genuinely look forward to finishing a match, opening a bundle and going 'Oooo- new voice line'
For the first time in forever- I actually bought stuff. Loved the custom mode- playing boss battles and such. I stopped playing rank after it felt a little too sweaty and just played the custom modes- hide and seek, tag etc. Lots of fun.

Then OW2 was announced and I was like 'Oh? What are they going to do new? Oh! New PVE stuff? Love PVE stuff!'
Nah, it just became a more greedy OW1.

The whole losing identity stuff started in chapter 2 in 2020 after 3 years of fortnite release
I stopped with Overwatch 1 when I bought one Lootbox.
And the rest is sad history.
"i've spent THIS much on this digital stuff! am i cool yet?"
or worse still:
"behold the amount of wealth i can burn for the sake of clout, peasants!"
When I was a kid (02' baby for timescale) If I saw someone with a cool ass skin or something all I needed to do was level up enough to get it or at worst figure out what achivement they had to get to unlock it... not have to beg my mom for her card to buy this weeks item shop trying to FOMO me or go to a virtual casino and pray the numbers that are algorithmically driven to exploit peoples (and most importantly children's) "gambler instincts" are somehow in my favor.
its crazy that i miss lootboxes like i actually enjoy getting alpha packs in rainbow because they feel rewarding
Oh my gosh! Why can’t they do this? Why?
I’m actually wildly enjoying the event, I’ve been waiting years for scatter arrow back.
It was in Loverwatch iirc
@@jademers88 Incorrect. Overwatch official release was May 24, 2016.

Those Guilted aspect skins are more expensive than GTA VI…..

Yeah, its sad because this is the first time in years i have ever laughed and smiled while playing OW
A game's store should work like this: "Play game. Get points. Spend points on specific item i want. Done."
Games don't do that anymore. I played Multiversus for two seasons and surprise surprise, unlocking specific characters you want was just made harder in order to encourage spending money. Fuck it, looks like yet another game for me to discard and delete. Live service games are a bane to this industry.
This might be the only video I've watched so far where I felt like nothing was said.
Genuinely
I disagree
Crazy how the people saying "overwatch is dead!!!" in 2018-19 were so right and yet could not imagine how bad it would really be. I used to be sort of upset that only a few of my friends played overwatch because I didn't want to play any kind of solo queue. Now I'm glad that we all stopped playing it way back then before it really killed itself
If Overwatch got anywhere near the love Warcraft gets, this'd be a totally different story...
ew dude, was having a nice November until you mentioned Overwatch
@@BellularNews Mate, I hate to be that guy, but I think Blizzard "showing Overwatch some love" is what ruined the game. The switch from Overwatch to Overwatch 2 is why I never played it again.
remembers reforged and getting ALL the save files and custom map and campaign files deleted as soon as a out-of-blue 20 GB patch for a 20 year old game starts to download
Yeah, funny that
In my defense I was aware of reforged it just slipped my mind and I randomly decided to play a round of survival chaos and got jumpscared.

As soon as Blizz stops doing shitty things these videos will stop.
ow is not scummy at all
I still find it astounding that Blizzard is the first company to make players beg for lootboxes to return because it was leagues better than the current reward system and monetisation.
lootboxes being in the shop for you to gamba away all of your money is bad. a free to play player gaining a lootbox around every 3-4 matches with a chance of gaining actually interesting cosmetic rewards was more than half of why I played overwatch in the past. now I NEED to pay for every BP and each BP gives you 60+ voices/sprays and up to 70 mythic points and 6 skins.... if you play enough...

Madness.
The catgirl bundle being $50 is wild tho.
they just get dopamine from complaining. it is sad to see.
I didn't get happy with this bs
Have you forgotten the shitty things blizzard has done or what?
Dream blizz customer
@ because I care about the gameplay and not about cosmetics? I think they want the other kind.
The quote you said “they don’t give a f#%k about you” screams soo loud navigating the menus in Overwatch 2.
Isn’t it amazing that one doesn’t have to spend a dime to enjoy the full game and the purchase of cosmetics are totally the decision of the player? Seems fair.
Lol, guy with Blizzard capitalized in his name excusing predatory $80 skins. Classic plant.
It's truely an odd time for overwatch, when the only skin you can *grind* for... Is twitch drops
Dodging that class action lawsuit i see.
Huh? (Not sure which one you are referring to)
The return of "OG" modes shows how creatively bankrupt these companies are nowadays
Overwatch 2 ranked is the best its ever been and I play all the time with my friends.. Yeah the classic mode is cringe but its just blizzard devs showing people how far theyve gone and how 2CP was bad. Queue time are instant almost at all times... not sure what you're on about
it's popular to hate on Overwatch, and doing so gets views
I agree that OW2 is currently as good as 5v5 has ever been, and I'm actually enjoying it more than I remember enjoying OW1 at its best
it's valid to complain about pricing, but at the end of the day, the best part of OW2 (the game itself) is 100% free. you can pay nothing and have just as much fun with the default skin
classic is not cringe at all
@@UncleJemima thank you somone with common sense and not haiting on the game because itz popular to do so
Wtf that emote is mercy trying to screw that cat

Overwatch is dead and it's depressing to see itsit'scorpse paraded around.
the actual 6v6 is coming in a few weeks iirc
6v6 tests of 2-2-2 and Limit1 Max3 are coming in season 14.
overwatch is not dead lol
What do you mean buy everyone is doing og mode,Fortnite did it first and it was very successful and other games just followed
Thing is, no one ask for a free game. Overwatch was never in need of a sequel.
No it wasn't, launch was a mess that needed the changes it got
BEST STATE? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Free gameplay mode
In a free game
Gives free rewards
And you complain
And people watch for some reason
And you make $$$
Thank you bellular, for giving a voice to the few OW fans that are left hoping the game doesn't fully die due to greed.
sit down. this game is FREE. cosmetics don't matter in the game. OW1 had a $40 box requirement to entry. just dont be dumb with FOMO and this game is no problem for your wallet
People like you with that smooth brain “iTz FrEe” attitude is why we are seeing up to 200 dollar skins/cosmetic bundles
Blizzard released OWC to prove to the playerbase why they needed to change to 5v5, but all it did was remind everyone how much fun OW used to be, and how completely silly the 5v5ers are...
it feels like a shitty emulation of ow1
hadn't played a Blizzard game in 4 years. I can't believe the shop looks like that now.
