What did u expect, after blizzard changed overwatch 1 to overwatch 2 it was all planned to make maximum profit, to convince customer to buy skins for money instead to earn them. All the overwatch player how buy and supporting this shit is to blame for the bad ov2 state right now. Blizzard gets a confirmation from all skins buyers, that they can do whatever they want, there will always be someone dumping several hundred dollars/euros in skins.
The funniest part of reselling the classic skins in bundles is that you CANNOT EQUIP said skins while playing the classic mode. It only uses the default OW1 skins.
@@endershel8163 Overwatch had skins on launch, but you were needed to get them from lootboxes. Additionally you could get Widow skin for pre-ordering the game and Tracer and Soldier skins for Legendary edition

@LarryHusk its not when ow2 came out they specifically changed how the characters models function and adapt to skins, meaning they remade almost every skin they wanted to, to fit the new character models. so they didn't have it readded due to probably just how excessive that is. i do think they sandbagged 6v6 with this classic though. but this this wasn't one of it.
Remember when in some older multiplayer Games when you Met someone Who had some form "prestigious" costume to show off that they grinded or that they were pretty good at the game? That was cool. Now when we see this stuff we Just Say "huh look at that dude, he spent 100 bucks or more for that"

Fortnite's original OG season felt like a celebration of Fortnite's roots. Overwatch and Apex OG feel like they're taunting the players with how good their games _used_ to be.
More modern shooter games made me realize how good Fortnite is. They love and respect the game and I don’t mind them having fun lil cash grabs like ice spice or Eminem because with there updates you can fight and use those stupid skins weapons

@@Spubbily01 I've been saying it for a while, Blizzard will never implement permanent OW classic because it will overtake modern OW. The game could be perfect if they just did a progression server that updated for the first 2 years of the game's lifespan and then reset back to 1.0. The issue is of course if Blizzard did this and allowed the old competitive rankings (far better and more balanced) to exist nobody would play modern OW.

When we had lootboxes, you were always garanteed to get enough currency to get exactly what you want at some point. You could even save in preparation for an event. I was never unhappy of what I got in a lootbox, because I knew it at the very least would get me closer to a reward I want. Not anymore. I log back for an evening a couple times a year when there's a gameplay change I like then promptly leave again because there's nothing to earn. Edit: For some reason TH-cam won't let me answer your comments, so I'll expand here instead. I was never one of those who complained about lootboxes at the time. I didn't "change my mind" because it was replaced by a worse system, even back then I did like them and found them fair. And to adress another thing someone brought up, the reason Overwatch stopped getting content isn't because lootboxes didn't bring money... It's because Overwatch "2" was being developped in the background.
But Asmon says it's better to pay $1k for a skin you are sure to get, than gamble (SIN!) with a 90% lootboxes. Yeah, I got mostly what I wanted, and I knew I can buy something I missed next year for 1k points (1/3 the original price). @@kukuki5000 They forcibly opened all of your 800 loot boxes?? Wow.. We who saw the gaming golden age before all the bullshit, we are an inconvenience for companies like blizzard. Instead of consuming product and getting excited for new product, we complain. I personally would not trade Ow2 for Ow1, that shit was an un coordinated unbalanced and limited freedom hellhole of itself. Also the number of present day characters is better.
It's a rewarding game for me, as someone who feels rewarded for besting my opponents. I dont care about skins in a video game. How about buy some fresh fits instead? The ladies love a well dressed man.
I tried it for the first time a couple months ago and I've been playing it quite a bit. I don't really understand the hate. What other hero shooter feels as good? Concord? That quake one? I loved tf2, but tf2 isnt competitive whatsoever despite the community trying to force it to be with lame rules. As far as i know, there's really no good alternative to overwatch. Maybe apex legends, but thats a battle royale.... so.... overwatch enjoys the same privilege as World of Warcraft. The base design of the game is fun enough and there isnt any good competition for either of the games, so they become the only option. But OW2 really is fun to play and feels so fluid. Idk. I get its fun to hate blizzard and their shitty microtransactions, but the game itself is super fun as someone who really doesnt have a dog in this race and only recently played for the first time.
No that metaphor doesn't work because Overwatch 1 wasn't abusive. It's more like going back to an old restaurant you used to love; but it has a new owner and all the recipes have changed and are bad now, but they are also charging you double what you used to pay.

Actually siege did once do a classic gamemode, but it was a long time ago and i think it was before fortnite og, that was the game that started the trend to bring back old versions of the game
Blizzard realized their mistake: _Overwatch_ was designed primarily to be a game. _Overwatch 2_ was built from the ground up to give people excuses to give money to Blizzard.
Back during OW1, I was so in love with the game that I would drop tons of money on each event to get lootbox packs and all the cool stuff. I used to call it Moneywatch back in the day, joking that when I play, I would watch my money leave me. Little did I know that OW2 would ruin my enjoyment of the game and end me spending money on things.

I feel like this is all just the same loop like they whine about in the said game stores for every game- that we have to fucking hear about from creators - we get it. skins cost $ , bundles exist yada yada - guess what.. people dont want to grind 1000h if theyre working 50h a week - if it cost 10-20$ for a skin that would take 100h to grind, its actually more efficient and time saving to just buy it then grind them.... does grinding a skin even really mean anything back then??? we didnt think they were bad ass - we called them virgins/no lifes back then when peolpe showed off these rare skins... its so disingenious IMO how people treat these games. Apex to Overwatch and Warzone , Fortnite - ect are all fantastic games and 100000000% free - where else can we say this?
Alright, gameplay experience: it's the OW2 engine, but with skins disabled, and the abilities and roster from OW's release. OW on release was not a balanced game. It was only fun in that state because it was novel and we were all bad at it. OW in 2019-2022 though? Now we're talking. Funnily enough, that was when Blizzard mostly left it alone.
Really who cares about skins, make the game better. Why did they decide to release a classic with patch 1.0, what a stupid decision, patch 1.0 is always terrible. I can see the only reason for this decision is to show that ow2 is much better than ow1, but ow1 had awesome patches, not this 1.0 shit

Ow2 is a mess because it never had a real goal. It was crazy casual, then it was super competitive with its own league, then it became ow2 with a pve campaign that was eventually cancelled for focus back on to casual pvp game. @@Blisterdude123 Loot boxes weren't that bad when you compare them to everything being overpriced because the companies are selling you the cosmetics straight up. That's not people saying "Hey loot boxes were decent", it's literally people saying "They made things worse than this pseudo-gambling system that we used to have" - two different arguments. To me, loot boxes are a fine free way to get cosmetics to players. Use them as part of a rewards system that supplements the cash shop. OW1 did that decently, the only problem is that the cash shop was more loot boxes. However, the ability to earn loot boxes, and in effect higher end cosmetics, helped keep people coming back. The duplicates turned into coins that could get used on more cosmetics. That's how a loot box system should work. The problem isn't the idea, it's how most companies execute it. Loot boxes are a good idea, greedy companies ruin the idea to line their pockets. It very rarely works in practice because the companies try to milk every penny out of the players.
I actually didn’t mind loot boxes. When I played during the first two years of the game, I got more than enough loot boxes simply from enjoying the game to get the cosmetics I wanted. The currency helped mitigate bad luck. But the game also felt like it was inherently fun, and the cosmetics were bonuses, instead of the core feature they eventually became.
buyable cosmetics are supposed to showcase the player's style choices for a bit of extra money spent. but at these prices, it only makes me cringe at the buyer for spending unreasonable amounts of money on trying to show off. "i've spent THIS much on this digital stuff! am i cool yet?" or worse still: "behold the amount of wealth i can burn for the sake of clout, peasants!"
Overwatch spenders will continue telling Blizzard that this business model is ok. People keep buying what they're offering so Blizzard has no reason to stop.
That's what I've been saying since the profit model of OW2 was showed : yeah, loot boxes weren't great. However, if you played the game, you ended up with at the very least the coins to buy the cool skins you'd want. Now, if you want any cosmetic that isn't either shit or that literally everyone else has, you NEED to pull out your wallet. No real worthwhile rewards within the free track of any event or battle pass. My whole friend group moved on with 5v5 being a shoddy mess that made half the tank roster essentially unusable for way too long and just threw off team cooperation even further down the drain when not playing as a full stack. We all ended up uninstalling it, and even Classic doesn't light even the smallest spark. Some of us in my group played damn near only Overwatch, and the transition to 2 just all made us go elsewhere. Some to Valorant, some to Siege, some to League (bless their souls)... I hope they are raking in money because otherwise, was it really worth it?

The events have been almost entirely terrible, Classic is the first one I have played in forever and it's novelty ran off pretty quickly. At the beginning of OW2 we were still receiving at least one free skin per event, people have become complacent with getting nothing.
More like its the most fun it's been since they killed OW1 The way OW1 was right before being shut down was better balanced and more fun for sure, OW2 just ruined it
I like how it inadvertedly proves my point that OW being fun got butchered by Diva and Ana, as Ana doesn't exist and Diva is pure garbage in the OW1.0 ruleset. Of course, there are undesireables like passive hp regen not existing - meaning you need to babysit everyone to full hp, as missing 20 hp is actually a big deal - Zenyatta being needlessly trash, and several characters (e.g. soldier/mccripple/rein) being obviously janky. But it's fun, because you can actually play the videogame, and it's delightfully simple compared to the acid trip that playing OW2 can be.
13:42 this for me. I sank an average of 2.5 hours a day from beta to the end of OW as just a casual player who wanted a fun game after work. Even with the announcement of Classic mode, I feel no incentive to hop back in. The entirety of OW2 is to get into your wallet. There's absolutely nothing fun about the game, at least for me.

Overwatch, such a dumpster fire. They want to hype up "6v6" as if it's some groundbreaking discovery, if the original overwatch was 5v5 then it would have been interesting. Reducing the amount of players on team for a sequel was such a terrible move I bet plenty of people left just because of that, slapping a Store upgrade over inferior title just added insult to injury. If the 6v6 was supposed to lure those who refused to engage in Ov2 because of their 5v5 plan then I'm sorry, but unless they bring back the game I bought from them in 2016 they can fuck right off, and I don't mean it as "Oooh release day Overwatch is peak", I mean the worst patch of Overwatch 1 would be preferable to whatever this is.
It's really unfortunate how bad Overwatch 2's framework is, cause even with how bad it is, Classic DID get me to reinstall the game after quitting 6+ years ago, around when Moira released. And man, it really shows what we lost in the end. With the push for Esports and constant rebalancing, bloating the roster with new heroes that aren't fun to play against and require tons of fixes after launch, and the general push for greedy microtransactions under a free-to-play model, it's hard to remember just how FUN the game was originally. It was definitely pretty unbalanced and had its own issues, but it was a lot simpler and easier to follow with the smaller roster and more defined kits. Game was just a lot more fun when it was meant to be a fun team-based FPS, and not an Esport.
I know of a certain game that has BOTH casual fun AND competitiveness in a class based first person shooter .... Some people think they can outsmart it , and yeah , maybe , but he has never seen someone outsmart bullet
OW Classic showed that the devs know what they are doing with their heroes but now? defense heroes are in the trash and unsatisfying to play. except maybe bastion hanzo widow also they are very interactive like torbjorn armor and symmetra shield giving new way to support rather than just healing
This isn't the actual 6v6 test for OW2, and I think they have like two more different iterations of "classic" lined up over the coming weeks. Maybe there's some "it wasn't as good as you remember" going on, but more than that I think they want data on what people actually enjoyed about the game in the past because they don't know lol.
Personally. Im enjoying the 6V6, with my friends. Its been nicer than some of the other modes theyve launched. I have 0 interest in giving Blizzard my money
2:13 free players get 600 coins every season, meaning they can buy every other battle pass :/ And the overwatch 2 rewards are going to obviously be less because the game is free… I feel like a lot of people forget that since they paid for the first one.
@@KatWithCigarette yeah, what you and I paid for is gone, and although it sucks, we knew a live service game would be gone eventually. What we have now is a different game.
Ahh- I miss overwatch 1. I wasn't into those kinda games at first but I got it since people at work were playing it. I got super into it in the end I hated lootboxes, but OW1 was generous and gave them out pretty often. I never usually put money into cosmetics but it was so genarous that I'd genuinely look forward to finishing a match, opening a bundle and going 'Oooo- new voice line' For the first time in forever- I actually bought stuff. Loved the custom mode- playing boss battles and such. I stopped playing rank after it felt a little too sweaty and just played the custom modes- hide and seek, tag etc. Lots of fun. I stopped being super active for a while, only coming in for events which were creative. My work actually would put torniments on the big screens instead of football which was awesome. T Then OW2 was announced and I was like 'Oh? What are they going to do new? Oh! New PVE stuff? Love PVE stuff!' Nah, it just became a more greedy OW1. No lootboxes, all free to play junk, tourniments fell over as they mistreated the teams by forcing them to remove a player. Balancing had been all over the place for a while- OW2 didn't really help. Tiz a shame
@@UsernameNotTaken2 I liked loot boxes more because I played a lot with my friends so I got duplicates all the time which gave me a lot of credits so when the events came along I was always able to get something I wanted automatically without even needing to open a box so I usually ended up getting atleast 3 event skins or more.
Yea... What really needs to reset? The people who make games... Until we can replace these greedy companies with fresh ones that can deliver quality. We will only get the same crap...
The executives who run the companies* The devs don’t make the money decisions. So people need to stop giving them money by buying overpriced cosmetics. That’s the only way to get those executives removed. Give them bad quarterly reports.
Idk, as someone who is old enough to have watched this happen over and over and over with my favorite game companies, it is just bound to happen to any company that continues to grow. Literally every gaming company I have watched grow big since I was a kid has grown so big that they become hollow shells of their former selves or get bought out by bigger companies and the same thing happens. Every game company I have loved has sold their souls to corporate overlords eventually. edit: the only exception I can think of off the top of my head is Team17.
"That just tells people that they don't give a fuck about you unless you drop SERIOUS amounts of money on the store" We knew that the second they made Overwatch 2, and all they did was remove every single aspect of freely earned skins and cosmetics. There is not a single way to earn any of the skins now unless you grind out dailies for months. We knew that when we saw the prices they asked for a single skin.
It's not that you literally can't go back home, the same places and sometimes people are still there - but the new time you spend there won't be the same as the old days you're remembering. I feel for anyone who needs to play this.
The way he insisted very heavily on "coomerwatch", doing his best to sound very *wink wink nudge nudge*... all that because he thought a character covered from head to toe but with a skirt is somehow the peak or eroticism was beyond cringe
Talking about the OW Classic event as a "Shop Event" is really disingenuous. Skins aren't even enabled in the event so if you're a returning player you aren't insensitivised to get the new drip no matter what they're selling, and the rewards being lackluster isn't an issue either, because they're here for the classic gameplay not any rewards in a game that abandoned it's identity. Totally correct about OW2 being overall greedier and less rewarding, just really poor reporting to not bring up how the mode feels and to bring up the shop that isn't even compatible with the game mode.
The point of overwatch classic and the Draw of overwatch classic was the game mode not any cosmetics or any sprays, the spray and name card was just extra
Fucking hell. I uninstalled Overwatch the moment they killed it and replaced it with a hollow shell with the same name. I knew it was bad. I had no reason to return at all, with my role axed, and the game warped and twisted beyond any recognition. But I had no idea that it was *this* bad. This truly fucking awful with monetization. That store is utterly horrific. And seeing how they butchered progression; jesus. I was thinking I'd maybe try again if they ever got back to the ruleset that Overwatch 1 died on; but if the game is like *that*, I don't think it can ever lure me back.
I think the core of Overwatch is still fun especially with friends, but I can't play it for more than a few days every few months because I don't really have a reason to play other than personal enjoyment. No objectives to go after, nothing to unlock, just playing for the sake of playing, which is nice, but only goes so far.
Overwatch Classic is kinda silly, since the thing most people complained about with the move to Overwatch 2 wasn't how different the game was (in fact, people were saying that calling it a sequel was kind of a joke). It was that they had purchased a game, and were told that this purchase would give them access to all the future content of that game, save a few skins locked behind the lootcrate system. So uh... unless they wanna ditch the f2p model, I don't think an "Overwatch Classic" is going to be very successful, but who knows. Maybe nostalgia runs deeper than reason.
All OW2 did was remove a player form each team and axe an entire game mode + it's maps. Sad how removing content is seen as an upgrade, displayed perfectly by this classic mode event.
I do have to say, the breathless "this is what it will cost to buy EVERYTHING!" reporting has never appealed to me. Why do we apply this model to games? Does anyone make a list of how much it would take to order the entire menu at McDonalds? Or to clear out a Macy's? I think Overwatch has gotten a lot wrong over the last few years, and if people playing the game are not happy with the cost of things, that's fair, but I don't think that "buying every single thing" should be considered a reasonable goal for an average player. The whole point of a F2P system is that most players will not have ALL the things, that is what whales are for. I think the standard for the average player should be what it costs to get SOME of the things, one or two items that you _really_ want, rather than what it might take to also acquire a bunch of stuff that you probably don't personally care about because they aren't for your main anyway.
Yeah especially with cosmetics, take Call of Duty - I have a lot of cosmetic stuff on my account, but I only use less than 1% of it because I don't care about the other stuff.
He didn't do that, though? The points were about singular skins costing more than entire games, and free players having nothing to chase. The cost of one or two items you really want is still prohibitively expensive compared to it's contemporaries.
@@mintparfait And those are fair points, I was not disagreeing with those. There was still a lot of "oh, there's this, and then there's that, and then there's this other thing you might want to get" talk. It frames the discussion around the volume of options as a whole, rather than each specifically, though he did _also_ get into that part.
I think if the game were to be released for the first time today, as it is in its current state, nobody would be that pressed about the pricing yeah some would complain about the high prices, but not nearly at the levels people do today. I think there's an emotional component to it "I bought Overwatch 1 for $40 and therefore I deserve to get all future content & skins for free, FOREVER. And now that I have to pay for things again, I feel betrayed." I think the real sin here is that they sunset OW1
@@UncleJemima Yeah, probably. They were in a bit of a no-win scenario there. OW2 is clearly not worth the name change or model change, but they really wanted to change the model because I get the impression that OW1 was losing its profitability, and they needed to figure out a way to change things. If they'd just changed OW1 into what OW2 became without the name change people would have been even more upset, but if they'd left things alone then the game might have drifted to unsustainability. I think their biggest failure was in not staffing up the team enough when OW was in its prime, so that they could both manage the current game and also build out the "OW2" they wanted and launched it years before OW2 actually came out. Instead it was way too little, way too late.
Imagine having better rewards by watching the game on Twitch than playing the game! Its just hilarious at this point! I'm guessing the ship is going to sink once Marvel Rivals drops, unless they are as predatory and greedy as Blizzard which at this point in time wouldn't even surprise me.
Overwatch beta wasnt in 2017 it was actually in early 2016 and alpha was in December of 2015. Overewatch's full original release date was May 16th, 2016
Why in the hell do people still play Overwatch? I don't care how fun the gameplay can be at times. I don't care how pretty the characters are. I don't care how well or poorly balanced everything is. With the way Blizzard is handling it, they don't deserve ANY players. For me, the only good parts of OW are the cinematics.
I play Overwatch casually, I don't want to engage with battlepasses, and I thought I'd get all the heroes as that's what OW promised me when I bought it full price. I did not expect infinite skins, nor am I asking for that. I don't even understand how to unlock the heroes now.
@joepkippensnuiver2969 you just need to play games to unlock heroes now. i think 150 games in total, wins count for 2 games. thats just to unlock the ow1 roster of characters, after you finish that up you get access to every single character.
What a depressing video with a depressing comment section. As a person who had a fun little time playing the mode and seeing other people enjoy it, I was very interested to see the criticism when I saw the video title and thumbnail but it’s just a rant about cosmetics. And barely a peep about the gameplay. Rewards? Like at some point I’m not Pavlov’s dog, if the game is bad, I don’t care what reward I get for sitting through it. Why is a videgame being mainly merited based on cosmetics? You can’t even pick your skins in the event?? It’s just default. Madness. The catgirl bundle being $50 is wild tho.
@ Which is why I said it’s depressing. It’s obviously farming the discontent of the people that have long decided they don’t like this game regardless if they ever played it or not. The most interesting part is where he talked about the comparison of what Warcraft is doing which provided context of how they made more efforts in their remaster of that. But that conversation was towards the end and cut far short for what it could’ve been. Instead there was just droning on about cosmetics not being rewarding as if that makes any significant impact in gameplay. But what it does do for his video is engage people who don’t care how well Overwatch did or didn’t do on the game mode but like hearing about larger narratives such as “live service games bad” and “games used to be better”.
@@DoctorPhileasFragg I dunno. I thought it was kind of funny, as long as the meme poses don't become every single victory screen ever. If that happens, then it just seems like it'll turn into the OW version of Fortnite making Goku or Wolverine do the griddy. I really hate that that is a sentence.
I'm done with people expecting rewards! rewards! rewards! Why can't we just have GOOD GAMEPLAY and that be enough anymore?? I've never completed any Rocket League challenge because I absolutely refuse to be controlled by them.
@eldenarmortem975 i played the game recently and it was really fun. I realize I'm just not into hero shooters anymore but it ran well, gunplay was nice, it looks great, playing between matches is great.
Im not disagreeing with the video but I want to point out that the mythic skins is not hard to get, unlike other battlepasses, you dont have to pay for the premium battlepass to get the gold coins and the mythic skins stays in the mythic shop and you can choose what to get so knowing that I have a chance to get them is great unlike every other skin in ow2
I feel like everyone talking about "yea the lootboxes were better in OW1" is gonna teach these companies the wrong lesson. I want to earn an actually usable amount of premium currency by just interacting with the game, something like a free battlepass or some other system that rewards me so I'm encouraged to play the game more rather than exploiting my psyche and giving kids a future gambling addiction. I want respectable methods of earning decent amounts of premium currency. I want to have a shop where i can go DIRECTLY buy whatever item I want for REASONABLE PRICES and not 1 skin being worth as much as an entire game (the entire masterpiece that is Terraria cost 10$ on steam how do we let them charge us ~20$ per skin)
There was no premium currency in OW1. The currency was earnable from lootboxes which can be earned fairly easily for free just by playing, I don't think you could just buy the currency with real money, only lootboxes. You can then use the currency to buy any items which were all fairly priced based on only categories and rarity. It was honestly one of the fairest lootbox system. But if there were a way to earn it consistently it would have been better, yes.
But lootboxes were unironically better. That's it. That's the entire reason. There is no actual reward structure anymore, so we all damn well know the fact that we would prefer lootboxes is sad as hell that even THAT is preferable to what little we have now.
@@UltimaKeyMaster ...I don't really care that they're "better" (those that choose the lesser of 2 evils often forget they still chose evil) my whole point is I think the common phrasing needs to be addressed. You actually took time to nuance out my key thing: LOOTBOXES ARE VERY BAD. That's the important thing to note in these discussions, the fact that we have somehow gotten worse is insane yes we agree. My whole thing is though we cannot let them get away with 2 steps forward 1 step back. Their dream situation is for us to want the lootboxes back means they can dodge all flack "we listened guys", all while still encouraging outright gambling. I just want a direct non-exploitative storefront and an actual free battlepass other than a fkin spray or charm every 20 levels to give me progress incentives.
Time for my boomer moment. When I was a kid (02' baby for timescale) If I saw someone with a cool ass skin or something all I needed to do was level up enough to get it or at worst figure out what achivement they had to get to unlock it... not have to beg my mom for her card to buy this weeks item shop trying to FOMO me or go to a virtual casino and pray the numbers that are algorithmically driven to exploit peoples (and most importantly children's) "gambler instincts" are somehow in my favor.
Exactly. People were out here badmouthing the loot boxes, including YTs, for what a year. Besides, Blizzard overall was likely making less money as time went on since there was little reason to buy them except for the FOMO during events if you cared that much. You were still paying to play the game anyway since you needed a subscription. What's the problem with just being able to control what you buy like right now just charge some skins with credits and premium currency while gaining credits through playing like with the flex rewards. I'd rather that than spend 20 hours to earn enough boxes to force the game to give me a legendary that I didn't even want. I didn't even start getting duplicates until I think three star silver border. That's a huge time investment to get the ability to get any credit before flex offered you rewards because the only other way was inconsistent drops from boxes. Stop lying and saying you were happy to get blues and whites constantly.
Eh, JQ is genuinely the best thing to come out of OW2 imo, so that's one thing ow1 didn't have lol (yet...because I'm pretty sure she was teased during ow1?)
Hey guys im going to talk about overwatch classic.. by talking entirely about the cosmetics. We know afterall that ow1 won game of the year because of cosmetics. I'll disregard ow1 vs ow2, 6v6 vs 5v5. A shooter games progression shouldnt be about getting better at the game and the experience of gameplay. Its about skins. And please dont look up if my facts about how well bundles and battlepasses did for ow. Take my word for it. Im sure what i say is true. I play overwatch for sure! Thats why the entire video is about cosmetics. I wont talk about ow1 time having horrendous long waits to actually nerf things like brig and mercy meta or the communication of devs and patching things faster. Truly no one cares about the actual experience of playing the game. Cosmetics are everything. I play overwatch i swear. Thanks for watching
Yeah no shit, all thats in these comments are haters who are here to hate and no one addressing that Bellular News didn't cover shit about the actual event or the game mode. Just how unlocking skins isn't fun any more, yeah we know. But nothing here is actually addressing the issues with OW2 as a game, just battle pass (which every live service game has) and that you have to pay money for skins because Blizz marketing knows how to get easy money out of people who are willing to part with it.
The fact they are even bring out a "classic" mode and not having it be classic at all should tell you exactly the type of company blizzard is. The fact they are even trying to bring classic out in the first place tells you they know they fucked up pulling ow1. Not ever fucking buying shit for ow2 ever, not investing into a game for them to decide they are gonna make another game and just shut the old one down to make way for the new one.
Bellular talking through all the steps about the currency is hurting my brain. Remember when we used to just play and unlock shit... whats with all these damn hoops I am forced to jump through... its so convoluted. Its no wonder these games lost me.
You're not forced to jump through any of the hoops though. You don't need every mythic skin to play the game and have fun. Once upon a time we used to play games and have fun without unlocking anything.
@@stevedave2027 Once upon a time we unlocked everything by simply playing the game. Multiplayer games like Overwatch need sense of progression, and you're not always ranking up or getting drastically better at the game, cosmetics are important as well.

Valorant is one of the most played games today. Overwatch is NO LONGER pay to play game, so they need to make money somehow. They really gave a finger with these "lootboxes" and now people want a whole hand. Breaking news! You don't have to buy a skin.
Don’t compare overwatch to valorant please. Instead compare it to ow1, the game it’s supposed to be. Being okay with paying useless online skins for 50 instead of being able to earn it (which was the fun part) like in ow1 is crazy.
@ Sure cuz y’all want everything for free because you paid 40 bucks YEARS ago. You have no idea how time consuming is making a single legendary skin, I know because I’m 3D artist myself. "I compare x to y which is worse so surely x is better!!" The fact that gamers simply don't realise that the problem lies within the simple fact that we're paying for pretty pixels is just saddening. There's no justifying trying to get into players' wallets at every possible occasion. Of course you can play the game without spending a single cent, but it's hard to ignore skins and other cosmetics when the game shoves them down your throat at all times. Free-to-play games are a plague to this industry. Not a single OW1 player ever asked for the game to go free-to-play, it felt like the game I used to play was snatched away from me and replaced with another game that ended up being somehow more predatory to everyone's wallets despite being free.
I find it hard to find the “news” here. There must have been dozens of videos on this channel on OW2 at this point and they all somewhat overlap on each other. We completely understand that OW2 is scummy and their monetization is outrageous compared to OW1. I just don’t get bringing it up every month.

But the game also felt like it was inherently fun, and the cosmetics were bonuses, instead of the core feature they eventually became.

or worse still:
"behold the amount of wealth i can burn for the sake of clout, peasants!"
Overwatch spenders will continue telling Blizzard that this business model is ok.

That's what I've been saying since the profit model of OW2 was showed : yeah, loot boxes weren't great. @@Cat_in_The-Box Getting rewards was part of the game. The gameplay is the hook, the skins were a cherry on top. The overwhelming majority of players enjoy getting cosmetics for their favorite characters. And its completely reasonable to detest a scummy monetization scheme in a game that once had a much more reasonable and generous reward system.
The gameplay has gotten stale because the devs have actively undermined the gameplay aspects that made it unique, and now they're rubbing the old version of the game and the scummy monetization in people's faces.

Yes, I agree that the way they do cosmetics isn't great. But do you honestly think people are logging back in to play ow classic primarily to earn rewards? That's ridiculous. If people played ow2 for the rewards then the player base would speak about the game more highly.
Yeah I haven't bought a single skin in ow2, or a loot box back in ow1. Was in it for the gameplay. Also with old lootboxes, if you didnt get the legendary skin, you could atleast get it next time by buying it with ingame currency. Something you earned by playing the game.
Exactly. Idk how this video is 15 minutes long and doesn't even talk about the gameplay itself, the actual reason for the mode

I hated lootboxes, but OW1 was generous and gave them out pretty often. I never usually put money into cosmetics but it was so genarous that I'd genuinely look forward to finishing a match, opening a bundle and going 'Oooo- new voice line'
For the first time in forever- I actually bought stuff.
Then OW2 was announced and I was like 'Oh? What are they going to do new? Oh! New PVE stuff? Love PVE stuff!'
Nah, it just became a more greedy OW1.
The executives who run the companies*
The devs don’t make the money decisions.

"That just tells people that they don't give a fuck about you unless you drop SERIOUS amounts of money on the store"
We knew that the second they made Overwatch 2, and all they did was remove every single aspect of freely earned skins and cosmetics. There is not a single way to earn any of the skins now unless you grind out dailies for months. We knew that when we saw the prices they asked for a single skin.

OW2 is worse than OW1 in every way, the balance, maps, progression, literally everything
I think if the game were to be released for the first time today, as it is in its current state, nobody would be that pressed about the pricing
yeah some would complain about the high prices, but not nearly at the levels people do today. I think there's an emotional component to it
"I bought Overwatch 1 for $40 and therefore I deserve to get all future content & skins for free, FOREVER. And now that I have to pay for things again, I feel betrayed."
I think the real sin here is that they sunset OW1

@joepkippensnuiver2969 you just need to play games to unlock heroes now. i think 150 games in total, wins count for 2 games. thats just to unlock the ow1 roster of characters, after you finish that up you get access to every single character.

Im not disagreeing with the video but I want to point out that the mythic skins is not hard to get, unlike other battlepasses, you dont have to pay for the premium battlepass to get the gold coins and the mythic skins stays in the mythic shop and you can choose what to get
so knowing that I have a chance to get them is great unlike every other skin in ow2
The game is the gift, not the extras. 6v6 classic is more fun than anything OW2 has produced.

the more yall talk about lootboxes the more blizzard will hear it as "oh, so they want their luck-based system back!" and insert a gacha mechanic
Except loot boxes allowed you to gain credits with which you'd be able to buy all the skins in-game for free. So yes, having a "gacha" like that would be good.
Yeah, its sad because this is the first time in years i have ever laughed and smiled while playing OW
Don't worry rivals is just around the corner
Yeah because a Chinese company infamous for its greedy monetization in mobile games is definitely gonna have lower shop prices. The way some people tear down one corporation to praise another is truly mind-blowing
@@indeboss They'll excuse it though, like they do with just about every other live service game where cosmetics cost money. The OW hate boner is so weird and just an engagement grift at this point.
I haven't played OW since like 2019 so I feel like if I touched this event it would just make me depressed. The monetization is just grotesque
Everytime I see an OW update I feel vindicated that I stopped playing this game in favor of several different indie games on Steam.
$75 for a skin? Bro that’s like 12 really good indie games.
