Some thoughts I didn't get to mention in the video: - The PowerGrade already has some default settings applied that hopefully look good already. This video was created to walk you through those settings so you understand what they're doing. This will help you decide what to change if you want to achieve a modified look. - This flow, like grading in general, will work best if you filmed with a wide colour space format (e.g. LOG, HLG) - Since this flow depends on the "colour space transform" effect, your footage format will need to be supported by the effect. For example, DJI's D-Log M isn't supported. If you're looking to use this PowerGrade for your Osmo Pocket 3, I've had really good results filming in HLG instead
As the designer of that PowerGrade, excellent work on the video! Just a few comments to clarify some things: The tone mapping option in the initial CST is enabled as a “backup” for those using Rec.709 \ G2.4 inputs, so you’re absolutely correct in disabling it for log sources. The Sharpen node is set to the LAB color space. By only using the R channel, we’re limiting sharpening to the Luma (L channel) instead of both Luma and Chroma data-not the red channel as mentioned in the video. Since our eyes are far more sensitive to luminance (thanks to having way more rods than cones), this approach ensures cleaner sharpening without breaking up color information. The Halation Compound Node (inside the compound) uses both the Blur tab and the Gain wheel to achieve its specific halation color. You can enable the Fuji FPE compound at the same time to create a nice blend between the two print emulations. It’s one of my favorite features of the PowerGrade! The raised black levels (soft blacks) are common in print film emulation looks but can easily be adjusted for deeper contrast by bringing the blacks down to 0 on the scopes. It’s purely a stylistic choice. Funny enough, we’re about to relaunch that toolkit with additional free resources-and hopefully better documentation and training this time around! Keep up the great work! 👏
Oh sweet, thanks so much for weighing in with the background of the creation this PowerGrade! These are some great learnings that I'll take back, and I'm sure others here appreciate them as well!
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW YOU LIT THOSE INDOOR SHOTS 😭 I created reviews and desk setup content and the shots of your sm7b, when you tinkered with the camera or the guitar look exactly like something i want to achieve for my tech content. And thank you for this free powergrade! I will download the free version of davinci later and play around with it :)
Thank you! I initially had lighting tutorials on the drawing board, but moved away from the idea since there are tons of other videos out there already. But if that's something people are interested in from me specifically, I can definitely dive into the topic!
Could you please make a video on exporting settings? how I can export with the adjustment clip? Any additional help on how to make videos feel more cinematic would also be great! thanks again!
Amazing videos in your channel, just the kind I was looking for. Great work. I am planning to start a TH-cam channel with my wife and I am doing some research. We are planning to start with filming on iPhone 14 Pro and edit on Da Vinci Resolve on Mac. If we want to be serious about it, we will invest starting with DJI Osmo Pocket 3 probably. For the start, I believe I can take OK videos with iPhone and edit them well. However I believe I need a microphone solution addition to the phone. Can you suggest any mic (preferably wireless) that could be used in a vlog/travel type videos? It can be an iPhone accessory or standalone solution. It just needs to upgrade the phone mics, needs to be better.
Thank you! Your iPhone 14 Pro should be a great way to start your journey! The default camera app can create some beautiful images. However, when/if you're up to it, the Blackmagic Camera app will allow you to film in the HLG/Rec.2020 format (iirc), which gives you much more latitude when colour grading. It's basically the "almost-LOG" format available on iPhones that don't have the actual LOG format. As for wireless mics, I only have experience with the DJI Mic 2, but I love that mic. The sound quality is great and the noise reduction feature is killer. If you decide to go with the Osmo Pocket 3 in the future, then this mic will be able to move on with you since it can automatically connect to the Pocket. I've also heard good things about the newer DJI Mic Mini that just came out. It's also cheaper and smaller, if those are things you are looking for!

@ i would love to see that! Most people sadly just focus on how to light a person but never how to light the environment or products. 🫶
Great video Eric!
thank you for your help!

I can start jotting down some notes for a potential video!
where can I download the power grade?
It's the first link in the description!
