As some have mentioned, the sub-zero temperatures caused a slip of the tongue. The Active Height Control suspension in the LX470 is hydraulic, not air. Forgive us, and enjoy!

I bought my LX470 in 2019 for $8000CAD, it had 317k on it, it's now at 375k. I've taken it on adventures in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. It's never broken down or let me down. I even towed a 20 foot trailer with a sports car on it from Denver to Calgary.
Best vehicle I've ever owned. And camping out of it is amazing. The drop down tailgate just makes life so much better.
Before this I had a brand new Range Rover and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have done everything my 20 year old LX.

The Active Height Control suspension used in the 100-series, 200-series and the new 300-series is hydraulic (pneumatic). It's not air suspension like on a Range Rover. The adjustable hydraulic suspension is a lot more reliable than an air suspension. Some people choose to remove it because it gets in the way if you want to lift the car and put bigger tires on.

My grandpa's Santana is around 40 years old and has probably more than those 500k miles of yours, except they were not done on highways and concrete streets but actual mountain offroads to get to his farm and back...
No poshy Toyota with an overcomplicated V8 and 2 tons of useless steel to move around will ever be a truly reliable off roader. None of them are used in the actual work environments, and when they are, they barely last. They're big, expensive and inefficient. Im quite impressed how much you yanks have fallen for toyota's marketing. Them and their japanese rivals have a lot of cars better than the LC. The LC is just another road SUV with some 4x4 capabilities. Any 4 pot diesel in Europe with a bit of maintenance can get to those 500k miles and more... Road miles are nothing for modern cars.

I have the honor of owning a Lexus LX470 and I must say, " you should have drove a model with the active suspench. Its freaking AMAZING. The ability to switch from soft to hard in the flick of a real switch. That you can actually feel and switch in an instant. Your 470 goes from rolling Rhino to performance turn hugging cheetah...No joke. This is where I really have to say OEM or JDM is the best. There is no comparison Lexus aka Toyota spent millions of dollars and hired the smartest Japanese employee to design that system. I just don't think any other option comes close. I get it its expensive to replace but it will last another 200k miles. PS also try to keep the JDM wheels if you can. The vehicle was designed and balanced with the wheels it came with.

In the 70K miles I've owned it I did the timing belt and replaced a bad alternator. That's it (besides consumables). I've taken it legit off roading, camping to the boondocks and everything in between. It's the best vehicles I've ever owned. They really don't make them like that anymore. Oh, and the AHC works like a champ and spoils you. Get on a really bumpy dirt road and click it over to soft, smooth as butter. Need a little lift? Put AHC in High and you have a 2 inch lift. If anyone is seriously thinking of getting an older LX, as I was, I suggest you look at the LX570, they started making them in 2007 and the 2007-2011 model is still good but the 2012-2015 facelift/update was a big one and that's the one I decided to go for as it had the best combination of luxury, design, modernity and price/value.
I've got a 2004 LS430 and I've found that once accustomed to Lexus craftsmanship, quality, reliability and thoughtfulness of design it's very hard to be satisfied or impressed by anything else. However I am, at heart, a convertible guy, so over the years I've test driven various year models & specifications of the SC430, about 4 different times at different dealerships hoping I'd find a version satisfying enough to finally trade in and buy, unfortunately that never occurred. *However* whilst at a dealership looking at an SC430 I saw a 2012 LX570 which I took out for a test, and then a couple more tests at different dealerships and they were all excellent. I had long admired the LX570 in traffic as the rear is tall, wide & flat with 2 huge light clusters, not at all swoopy or sporty, and the side profile is similarly flat and vast, with long straight lines meeting at sharp angles, it looks both refined and uniquely imposing, especially in all 6 layers of Lexus' gorgeous Pearl White paint, which makes it look like Apple joined on with Lexus to design a dictator's personal APC.
And I can attest that is also pretty much how you feel whilst driving one, like you're a leader of nations riding around in something bespoke, perpetually looking down upon those you encounter in traffic, able to see what's happening not 2 or 3 but 6 or 7 vehicles ahead letting you efficiently avoid slow drivers and any slow downs.
And the vehicle's power matches this grandiosity, with an enormous 5.7L V8 making 380hp with a beautiful smooth power profile. That engine is a sophisticated modern relic, the sort manufacturers will never make again. And whilst it's already quick and powerful if you're so inclined you can even purchase Toyota Racing Development's bespoke Supercharger Kit and ECU for that engine. Which then gives it a bit over 500hp and 55lb ft of torque. Giving it an incredible amount of power, Super Car type acceleration, 0-100 in the low 4's, except you're in an enormous SUV. Additionally the interior design is much more modern than the 2007-2011 models, with more metal switches and knobs plus metallic coloured plastics, giving it a real point of differentiation internally compared to the first gen models.
In 2015 they did a major overhaul which used the same platform but beside that the exterior and interior were all in effect brand new barring a couple of panels, they introduced the huge spindle grille that year too. Personally I think the LX570 lost it's character with that update, no longer imposing it looked modern, slick and frankly generic.
I came close to getting a 2012 model, even did a few tests but I had to go over season for business for a 18 months and I returned just in time for Covid so I'm still in my ancient LS430. But if you're after an older LX go look at the 2012 and make sure you study the differences between the various updates/facelifts, they make a big difference.
