Just put my early (non-abs and fixed screen) '04 ST1300 back on the road after a wee rest in the garage..for 12 years. Had to scrape and descale the bottom tank (luckily only the bottom tank had rotten fuel in it), rust converter, KBS tank liner paint, replaced the fuel pump and filters, both stanchions due to rust and pitting slicing open the for seals. All fluids and filters replaced as well. Turned the key, cranked it twice, it fired up and purrs like the kitten it always does. Bodywork is pristine, very, very small dent in the tank as a result of a head on with a car (all other parts replaced, but not worth a new tank for a 1/2" long ding)
I put the first km on it in 2004, and today put the 37,700th km on it. Yes..37,000 km. So very happy to be back on my baby.

Just listening to your comment about the weight of the Pan reminded me of when we bought our first ST1300A4 Pan from Bradford motorcycles. I'd returned to biking in May 2004 after 14 years away due to family commitments, and I so wanted my dream bike, the Pan. However, I was sensible and bought the 'baby Pan', the NTV4650 Deauville. By August 2004 I was ready for my Pan! On the 4th September 2004, we exchanged the Deauville for a brand new Pan. The 37-mile ride home to Lancashire was, to say the least, breathtaking! I had to pull over on the A629 and tell my darling wife driving behind me, just how I felt! I have this on video, too. I miss those days terribly but feel so privileged to have experienced two Pan Europeans. Great video Dave!

In my opinion they’re the best touring bike ever made and the sound as that V4 spools up is like a let engine

@thebingleywheeler Yes, it is. After owning two FJRs with essential upgrades such as cruise control, LED lighting and electronic suspension, I just wish Honda had remembered its most loyal market and upgraded the 1300 Pan. The VFR1200 was never ever an alternative option for the Pan.

big Big fan of the Pan or as we call it here in the states, the ST 1300.. I had a red 2005. This bike along with two ST 1100's( Pan European) took me all over the US 48 states and many provinces in Canada. Never left me stuck on the side of the road and was just a joy to ride. My buddy had 145,000 miles on his 1100 when the rear shaft knuckle went out. Easy fix. It kept on going..
I went a bit nuts with mine and put on custom springs, emulators and rear shock for my weight. The wheels would dance in the corners but the bike would track like it was on rails! A bit tubby moving in the garage but a small price to pay. Loved the adjustable wind screen. You could dial in the wind noise at the speed you were in... I took a few Police motorcycle courses and every Motor officer wanted to ride it.. Coming off Harley Davidsons they were truly impressed. Congrats on the new ride.
    It will probably outlast you!!!

Nice bike, I had an st1100 which I had always lusted after but unfortunately had to sell after only a few months as my short legs left me feeling nervous whenever I stopped on a camber. Heavy as he'll but all the weight disappears at 5 mph and at 90+ on an autobahn she was in a bubble of calm.

Absolutely agree with you on this electric business both you and Stuart have this completely right and yet nobody hardly says anything about this not in the papers tv nor anywhere ,we are sleepily being herded into this , and when the realization hit's it will be to late . This electric car business is a complete red herring it is so impractical it's a joke !! . Also these zones they are piloting in the Oxford area soon what the hell is that about and these ULEZ areas it's all part of the same rubbish they are feeding us .The bike is looking great luvin the colour too and look forward to the next in car chat it should be very interesting .I said enough 😉👌👍

Hi I love your view from the pan. I live in Holland and just bought me a pan europe from 2002, totaly in love 'cause of the club I'm riding in with my honda cb 750. so now I got me one also. And so I heard that these bike's are going to be fossile's ; that extremely well they are made. So: should I be worried because it got 148.000 km on it?
btw its well looked after, and looks like new ( also a red one)

    Hi
    Nice bike.
How does this compare with moving it around in the garage and getting it on the centre stand compared with your Crosstourer. I'm thinking of getting a Pan, but concerned with the weight. Had an FJR 1300 and found that top heavy.
    Regards Steve

    • @thebingleywheeler
      @thebingleywheeler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s easier to centre stand than the Crosstourer but about the same in other respects but is a much heavier bike on paper. Up and running she’s a dream and looks well ahead of her time….smoother more powerful feeling engine too

Hope I don't sound too jealous LOL... Enjoy

The cyclist in this video is a perfect example of the sort of twattery that they get up to.
He couldn't be bothered to unclip his pedal, so he just rode through a red light.
If there was a traffic light camera at those lights taking a picture of him there'd be nothing they could do about it. If you trickled through on a motorbike because you couldn't be bothered putting your foot down then you'd get a ticket through the post.

Nice one, Quite a few car channels have debunked the EV climate nonsense. My upbringing sounds just like yours, two up two down terraced house with an outside toilet, the only people on my Street who had any transport were tradesman, my parents never owned a car. Summer holidays was a week in Morecambe and we travelled by bus or train and we loved it....Subbed....

Test rode one before Winter as a "Maybe“ replacement for my 2004 Sportster 1200 Custom.
    Fantastic bike, but…
for this weight the cog is much to high and it’s very uncomfortable to maneuver this bike in the garage also it felt more unstable at speeds over 160km/h as my Sportster does…😮😮😮
The engine is fantastic, lots of low end torque and a beautiful growling sound even with the stock mufflers…
Maintenance wise it seems to be a nightmare with all that fairing around, you will need hours to get to the point of interest!
A great bike for faster country roads, but not a motorway express and to heavy for a daily…
I will stay with my Milwaukee tractor until I find something better…

You're correct about how people have to resist these policies. Imagine being in Wales with a 20 national speed limit. What's the sense? Might as well ride a moped. Not as restrictive here in the US by any means especially in places like I live. Practically no enforcement although people are fairly polite about it. Keep up the good work.
