A baby meerkat crawling all over you while you're ethically-obligated to refrain from snuggling him/her could be a very innovative form of torture... I'd spill state secrets in about 10 seconds.
Right?! Such torture!
Especially when they're named Arnie ❤❤
I confess I cheated on my spelling test in kindergarten. Let me pet it now, please! 😂😅
Queen Mao Asada Oh my!! So true!!!
😂
They knew who he was, and that he was a living creature.
But meerkats are incredibly social, are very intelligent, and they've got an amazing sense of danger.
He didn't pose a threat, so it was safe to investigate and play with.
MakoRuu hgsdcdcgqwcdeaadfvc seeyb
El Pondros
If you watch another of the other videos it shows him stroking this one as a baby when he first came out of the burrow. There are a couple of weeks in the early life of mammals like these called the socialisation period. Within this period is when they learn to socialise with their family and if there are creatures of another species around socialising in a way their family allows they will often become comfortable with them in a familial way. With kittens for example, they can be socialised with one to two humans or dogs and they will become comfortable with just those humans or dogs or those they are introduced to by those animals. If they are socialised with a wider range of humans in that time they will become very friendly cats who will say hello to most humans who present with the right body language. I would say these meerkats know this man as an animal it's safe to be around even if they don't consider him part of the family. Cats which consider you one of their own will rub their facial scent glands on you which marks you as family. I don't know what behaviour shows this in meerkats but they're definitely socialised to accept him at any rate.
El Pondros
Oh! 😂 Was that a complete context failure?!
MakoRuu Absolutely... Looked him straight in the face. I think there's a backlash against anthropomorphizing animals when in reality they display many many many "human" characteristics.
El Pondros I'll concede they probably didn't know his name, that he was British, that he worked for the BBC, etc. But they knew he was another potentially-sentient being... They looked him in the face and that gives me no reason to think they simply perceive him as a "rock."
You know your a professional when you resist the urge to pet something so adorable
Amen to that 😂😂😂
So true!
😁😁🐱
petting a wild meerkat and even zoo raised meerkats is a very easy way to lose fingers
True! I wouldn't be able to resist.
Timon: This is the weirdest lion I have ever seen.
Funny thing I read this comment with timings voice in my head
Funny is that this video is from 2008 and people still commenting

Meerkats be like "Why humans don't move too much?"
lol
They’re all so jittery, it’s adorable.
So they're basically like a cat, but with a meer.
And all the while it’s no mere cat
Yes and no
Meer is Afrikaans for more/beyond
Kat is Afrikaanerised for cat.
So basically a morecat/beyondcat..
Iv never come across an English version.
But there is an English version for a Dassie viz Rockrabbit.
Language if it's your thing can be fun.k
@@markwillies4330 Delightful explanation. Thank you.
While we're being boring and missing the joke, we may as well get our facts right. "Meer" ("mere" in English) means "lake". It's possible the first Dutchman to see one was by a lake. More likely, "mier" is a slang word for a termite. Meerkats do like termites.
Your pfp fits this comment so well.
Them: What do you do for a living?
Me: I’m an arm cave for a meerkat.
One could do worse in life.
Sounds like a dream job to me.
@@ultimategamer2669 I was just going to post that!!
anyone who gets to interact that close with any wild animals are so lucky... wish it were me....
Nunya Biznis a bunch of wild pigeons sat on me once
Kalle Scope i cant stop laughing
Kalle Scope you must be Snow White then.
Kalle Scope 😂😅 so lucky!!
throw him to the crocodiles guys
1:31 dude that meerkat is pickpocketing you or im just seeing things
I'm sure he was looking for bugs in his pockets!
Trying to level up his skill tree
Hahahahah
LMAO 🤣 🤣🤣 🤣
Memeo he was looking for that prison wallet
I loved "Meercat Manor" on TV in the 90s. It was like a meercat soap opera.
I miss that show so much
☹ now I have to go find it
I watched in in the 2000's. Was great until they suddenly canceled the series. Mozart was my favorate and I recall little me running to my parents "Mozarts alive!" on that one episode.
The show started in the mid 2000’s.
Me too I loved that show
1:30
Learning to check for the wallet. The first step to showing the gang you're figuring it out.
So adorable little cuties. You are one of very few luckiest people in the world to experience close up encounters with these darlings. I am jealous...
I want to be able to say that--about something--one day!
@@moniqueloupe8867 Maybe you will! You can always donate your free time to local wildlife sanctuaries. They need plenty of help! (Just an idea assuming you have the resources of course)
I love the smile on his face. How cool is this to watch! Makes my heart sing!
A smile of pure joy and fulfillment!
Not sure about those sharp teeth
I love how they stand and stare. So freaking cute.
Mentally: “Must not snuggle cute fuzzy babies”
I'm amazed that his smiling doesn't frighten the meerkats. As I understand it, in the wild a displaying of teeth is usually a sign of aggression. In any case, what a fascinating job! I envy Simon, being able to watch the animals overcome the fear that, unfortunately, is so necessary for their survival.
I imagine that they've gotten used to him simling and simon's general body language implies that he's relaxing/content
There's apparently a difference between the facial expression of snarling and the more relaxed open mouthed smile that animals can recognize. I still wouldn't put it to the test myself.
@@silverjohn6037 "I still wouldn't put it to the test myself." Especially not with apes.
@@Quotenwagnerianer
Maybe if the apes saw humans interact with their smiling they’d learn it meant something else for us. They’re pretty smart after all.
Apes, monkeys -- my relatives; yeah... gotta be careful.
They have to be the most adorable little angels, or terrorists.
@Dave Alexander i have only handled ferrets once, must admit I do like them, but i love animals especially the creatures that some people are afraid of. Friend of mine has two pythons, names, monty and polly, both have such characters. My husband is not a fan and his sister would be in another county. I've always wanted a chinchilla i understand they are social animals.
Oh man what a privilege that must have been. How wonderful.
This is ADORABLE!
They're probably thinking "He's here again, looking at us. How strange and peculiar."
This is affection, to me. He's the only one who climbs on Simon, smells him or stay close to him. So cuuuute ♥
I personally see affection. Why trust and play on him otherwise? Smell his face and look at his eyes
Because anthropomorphising, whether accurate or not, is a dangerous path to go down, in all honesty he shouldn't have even named them, but I can't really blame him they're quite the characters hehe
Curiosity.
Trust is A path to love . If you do not trust ,you cannot love .
@@Dirtbag-Hyena for humans, yes. For some animals too. But not many.
@@Dirtbag-Hyena this is wild curious meerkats we're talking about not a motivational speech 😂
Also you can trust something without loving it and vice versa, I trust my bank, don't love it, I love my teenage niece, don't trust her as far as I can throw her
The meerkats are so awesome. That must have been quite the experience.
I love how they chirp and growl
Simon King is an excellent wildlife commentator. He's great in 'Big Cat Diary' , too. This Meerkat series is wonderful and well done.
Simon...you are truly a nature lover...you deserve this...awesome man!!
I remember Simon from years ago, when Big Cat Diary was on.
Awesome show!
Loved this show!! I miss it.
I miss that show😭
Miss that show
Huge fan of BCD also! I used to watch Meerkat Manor right after♡
..and then, they stole his wallet and ordered themselves a Meercat Mansion on Amazon!
This has got to be seriously hard when not being able to intervene in anyway to save them.
Yea, that's like one of the main things I have seen, like from the directors and camera crew that studied and filmed the show Meerkat Manor. Like there was one time I remember, and that episode would still make me cry to this day, was when a young pup was abandoned by the mother and basically left to die and the crew could do nothing to help but just keep recording/filming. I want to say that time it happened another meerkat came in last minute and saved the pup before it died but I remember other times where some did. Or like one got bit by a venomous snake and over the next few episodes, progressively got worse and worse until I think it died.
Why couldn't they intervene? I haven't seen the show, but there are so many wildlife centers that take special care of animals in just those sorts of situations.
@Vergilius Brutus Logically and ethically speaking, our being around at a certain moment to lend a helping hand IS "Nature's"course. We're a part of it.
If, for instance, I see a baby bird fall out of its nest, I will certainly put it safely back in rather than leaving it to die. It's senseless and cruel to do otherwise.
@Vergilius Brutus It's very simple to me: all you have to do for such a documentary is say what would have happened if no one had intervened, then go ahead and save the day!
People can be needlessly senseless and cruel, unfortunately.
@Vergilius Brutus Sure we can go around removing suffering wherever we find it--that's what we're here for. "Any good...that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again," and all that.
No purpose is more important to me than that; no documentary can equal it in importance. But it all depends on one's values stemming from one's worldview, and I'm a follower of Christ. We know there's evil everywhere, but we overcome it with good.
Thank you, by the way, for keeping this discussion civil. These days, too many people denigrate each other instead of listening and conversing.
Such a magnificent encounter! I’m sure the presenter will cherish these moments for his whole life.
the way they stand up in a row is hilarious. They have awesome postures.
I'm so jealous! Green with envy. What a treat to be so up close and personal with these adorable creatures.
1:36 Meerkat : where's your money man, give it to me!

Meerkats are some of the most social, curious, playful, intelligent and 'family' oriented creatures on earth. Humans, today, could learn a lot from them and how to act and get along.
They have family genocides. What the hell are you on about
Haha he smiles so big after the one goes up to his face.
They were so adorable!
Of all the animals on this planet, meerkat's have to be one of my most favorite of all of them!! They are so freaking cute!! And so fun to watch!
1:02 the face of a man whose dreams are coming true
That's experience that will last you forever that's so cool
That one meerkat was clearly trying to take his wallet
Why we can’t show love back to them ☹️. The are such adorable, curious, and intelligent little creatures ❤️🥰❤️
Simon King is the best naturalist, gets wild cheetahs to relax on top of his land cruiser with him 2 ft away up through the hatch, and then this
I saw you do a TH-cam where the lioness was frantically searching for her two cubs and you rooted her on until her cubs came out of the tree trunk and nursed. I knew everything I needed to know about you then.
You are a wonderful soul who loves wildlife like many of us do. Keep on mate. 👍😘
Awe those meerkats are so adorable. They are so sweet they really like that guy. I think the reason the Meerkats like him , is because he is on Thier level.
I remember how upsetting some episodes of Meercat Manor were. Meercats aren't "sweet" w/ other meercat family groups or their own outcasts.
I love Simon King and Meerkats.
Nature is the only true perfect way.
0:56 "You - ah - you hiding any food up there. pal?"
Personally I see trust, acceptance and even clear signs of affection.
Simon, you have the most rewarding job in the world. Your interaction with the meerkats is measured and sensible enough to earn their trust.
I have a very small bucket list..highly unrealistically any of them will have come to be and they’re all with animals. Doing this such thing is one of them. I absolutely adore Meerkats. This made me smile ❤️
These creatures are really cute, curious n displaying very
interesting behaviors. No wonder they are called meerkats, the name somehow fits them well.
love them both, Simon and the Mercats! so sweet!
Awesome video.....
You remind me of a time I took care of an abused dog .....
( 3- month old Husky )......
She was terrified of humans....
So I got a sleeping bag and layed in the yard at night close to her safe spot....
All body in sleeping bag covered but face...
Little by little she came close to me....
One night I fell asleep in the back yard and when I woke she was sleeping across my stomach.....
From then on it was progress.....
I kept her as I had become too attached and her to me......
God bless all who love creation ♥️
Did you know, that to find work as a wildlife photographer or wildlife filmmaker, you have to pass a series of tests that measure your ability to handle vast amounts of cuteness? Some say there exists a test where you must survive an hour in a room full of puppies, without moving or smiling. Apparently a man panicked when he couldn't handle the high levels of adorableness during such a test, and suffered major high levels of The Cute. Unfortunately, he had to find work as a stay-at-home puppy foster. Poor guy.
I love Simon!! Been watching his work for many years now. Ur such a treat Simon! Lol. The meerkats are so cute! That is a wonderful feeling to b recognized by a wild animal like that! Good for u!
Awww...Soo cute!! Dieing of cuteness overload...🎊👾
What an incredible experience! A just reward for all of the time and openness that he has given these animals.
I could watch meerkats all day when I go to the zoo .they are so cute and family oriented.❤
You are so blessed to have an experience like that.
First I was afraid that the little guy was going to bite his nose off . And then I was afraid that he was going to tear him a new one ! Hahaha!
Wonderful! Such close interaction with a wild creature. Magical!💟
What a wonderful experience to be so close to cute little creatures. Thank you for sharing
I think they think that you're dying or in distress and they're trying to help you. He's trying to dig you out of the ground. He thinks you're stuck.
Friends: What is your one of lifetime goals?
Me: This..
I believe Meerkats are one of the most studied Animal in the World. They are fascinating and gorgeous too. 🇦🇺😀💗
The visual definition of trust! Warmed my heart! Thanks for sharing.
I saw these wee cuties at the San Diego zoo. They were with the elephants and cute as a bug.
It is a form of affection. They like bein' around you.
Meerkat kisses...I'm MELTING because of the insane cuteness!!!
That is so special those little animals are so intelligent they have my respect 😀
I could never do that job: I'd want to interfere in case of trouble.

It's like quantum physics: You can't observe without becoming entangled...
Dave Alexander Oh, but what if I said: "It's like porn: You can't watch without becoming complicit"?
Dave Alexander You can't observe without becoming entangled... Same same.
Dave Alexander 🙂 Yeah, but the complicity is much more real than we like to believe. Have a gander: th-cam.com/video/FYMI6Shd7BU/w-d-xo.html and tell me what you think.
Nice.
Oh I love these video's. Meerkat families are so cute.
What a wonderful blessing this is so precious cxc
They probably think he's a dying animal or something since he just lays there every day.
You just cant find stuff like this anymore.
Now it's just reality shows
It IS a reality show. It's just that wild animals are more pleasant to observe than a lot of humans ... especially the kind that have reality shows!
WHAT BEAUTIFUL AND ADORABLE ANIMALS LOVE THEM
OMG, they are so sweet I love it❤💚💜💙💛💕
I know the BBC likes filming nature as realistically as possible - but do we really need the video in the Meercat-vision of 144p?
Was filmed in 2002, before digital video broadcasting was adopted.
