- A super auntie meerkat named Cameron loves to babysit cute mongoose babies for the mongoose family in Namibia. Meerkats, like banded mongoose, are highly social animals, and their survival depends on being social. For this meerkat's mongoose brothers and sisters, she might speak with a meerkat accent, but she thinks she is a mongoose and they consider her as being part of the family.

I don't understand people keeping Meerkats as pets. They are cute, sure, but they need more than human companionship.
That is to me also animal cruelty!
They appear to be on a reserve and not pets but voice-over narration is awful and uninformative.

And auntie is safe from all the poisonous snakes. Cause a family of 50 (!) mongoose is going to literally eat any snakes stupid enough to even slither into the proximity of their nes, den, whatever.

I’m the same way. It looks like they’re wearing sunglasses. Mongooses are very fearless animals. I’ve seen one run full speed when he spotted a Cobra and fought with it. They have to be the bravest animals for their size

These animals are actually related to one another, as they are all members of The Viveridae Family, which includes Meerkats, Mongooses, Binturongs, Fosas, Civets, and Genets
They aren’t in the viverrid family. They’re in a sister group, both of which are included within the infraorder viverroidea. Only civets, genets, linsangs, and the binturong are included in the viverrid family.

If you somehow didn’t know, taxonomy changes all the time when new information is discovered. This year, the mew/common gull got split into the common gull and short-billed gull, and it was changed immediately on pretty much every major resource. As soon as the AOS declared it, pretty much every major resource updated its information. That’s what the internet is for, making information easily accessible so you don’t have to read and research a ton of books from different years that might have conflicting information.
So yeah I don’t care if you claim to have been studying these creatures for years, so have a lot of people from some of the most prominent scientific authorities that have done DNA comparisons on these creatures. If you got a problem with how they classify things, bring it up with them.

Meerkats are mongooses, a mongoose is any carnivoran that belongs to the family Herpestidae, there are only 36 extant species of mongoose within 16 extant genera, mongooses are found only in both Asia and continental Africa, there are no mongooses in Madagascar.
