I feel so bad for SSC. They got trashed for a data error, even though there’s no reason not to believe it’s faster than a Bugatti - it’s lighter, more powerful, and aerodynamic. And now their only prototype is smashed.
For the person asking for vintage watches under $200, consider quartz Citizen or Seiko from the 70s and early 80s. They were making really nice watches as quartz was the best stuff at the time, and they've aged well and don't really need to be serviced like a vintage mechanical would. Matt's advice about shock, and most importantly water resistance, is still very valid, but if you're looking for something nice and vintage there are great deals to be had in those Japanese quartz watches.
Love my King Quartz 4823-8120. They are finished better than Rolexes and Omegas of the period and cost 1/5 as much. Nice jeweled quartz movements too
@@verdict1163 Very nice, King Seiko still have good value, since the brand isn't still around like Grand Seiko is. The vintages Kings are just as nice as the Grands.
@Mr Calcium I wouldn't necessarily recommend vintage watches for a "beginner", since they can be a bit of a mine field. You need to do some research before buying anything, to make sure you're getting something well represented. That being said, you can still get good new watches for under $200, and excellent ones for under $500.
@@Zanpaa I see a made a typo and said king Seiko rather than king quartz. I agree that buying a vintage watch requires a lot of research and knowledge. That said, there are a lot less fake quartz than there are fake mechanicals

I love the fact that the two season's of Car Trek I've watched have had some financial trickery for the price of the car. No one is going to buy a base base base Corvette, so it makes sense. And well Ed could get a $500 a month payment on a Ferrari with his Shroud negotiating. It's a great show. It was good hearing Tavarish's talk!

hey zack, what software are you using for video calls ? isn't there one that records the guest's feed locally and then uploads it to you to take away any video and audio quality glitches and problems ? it makes sense doesn't it ?
We use switchercast. It does not record their call locally. To do that we would have to ask the guest to use a separate audio recorder, and not everyone has one. Also, if they get a setting wrong, the audio can slip and get out of synch with the other audio.
@@zackklapman3569 Another podcast I listen to (Scottish Watches) have the guests record their audio locally on their iphone, with some simple setup to avoid vibrations and such, and the end result sounds great. I'm sure it's a lot more work to put the tracks together, and of course it wouldn't work for the live/video part (SW is an audio-only podcast), but it may be worth looking into? I'm sure the guys from Scottish Watches would share their setup if asked. But I understand the specific difficulties for what you do on TST.

The EV market imposed by Western Governments, is the best thing, could happen to the Chinese automobile industry. Since they control the production, and now can compete with other car manufacturers with electric cars.

Tavarish has 27 cars and 2 are complete and 1 of those is stuck in the Peterson. Wish he would sell half of his cars, take some driving lessons, and then finish and actually do something with the cars he builds. The I bought a wrecked car and I'm going to rebuild it 97% of the way and then abandon it is getting old.

The bad internet connection along with all 3 of them talking over each other makes this difficult to listen to. Add 7 minutes of commercials, and 10 minutes was all I could take.
Can someone ask Freddy to plug into a hard-line for ethernet connection? The glitches are really annoying. They have to have decent internet access in Tavares. Wifi for video conferencing is not a great choice.
Yeah I mean he used to make thousands of dollars a month from ads on his extremist alt-right hate speech websites, that's kind of how he got his start, he should at least have decent internet. Seriously tho fuck Tavarish and his awful try-hard car content, it's not as offensive as the hate speech profiteering but it is offensively bad.

Hi guys! Nice video (First timer in the TST podcast here). Just a comment: 800 meters are half a mile. About to crash at that higher speeds., if the tuatara got that wreck just for a flip over of a truck, just imagine the results if that car crash at 200 mph !!

Car manufacturers and engineers should really be looking at the hobby industry RC car scene if they want to figure out how to make EVs feel different and give them personalities to appeal to die hard ICE enthusiasts. These high power RC cars going way beyond 100mph all have the same fundamental powertrain but they all feel unique to that particular RC car. Not all batteries are the same, not all motors are the same, not all ESCs are the same. They all feel different and provide a unique experience. Full size car manufacturers should take notice.

Guys you either need a bonus video in the reload or a set number of questions. The suggestion to record the Audio file for shitty internet is good too. This is very vauge and dependent on the mood of you on the day.
Matt has said time and time and time again that making a donation and posting a superchat does not guarantee you a spot on the show. It just “puts you on the radar”, in his own words. I’ve been skipped over plenty of times and that’s fine because I contribute to the podcast so that we get more of them. I don’t contribute solely to get airtime because that’s a shitty way to get attention.

Really like Tavarish and what he brings on his channel. Sadly I can’t same for Hoovies and Ed, just find them boring. I tried to watch car trek…. Felt like a boot leg top gear challenge and couldn’t take hoovie or Ed after five minutes. Enjoyed this episode with Freddie seems like a cool dude. My useless 2 cents

This is like the 4th podcast these two have done together. I feel like these two are gay for each other...
idk why people think ICE is done, its at around 30% efficiency at best in real world conditions, they still have so much more potential where electric is pretty much at maturity, especially when the emissions advantage for electric cars gets thrown away when you use renwable fuels, a energy source that you can actually store and that it reduces the atmospheric carbon (for any given moment the fuel is fixed CO2, from the plant growing until its burned by the cars you actually have carbon that was taken off the atmosphere ... a net loss unlike EVs)
I am not a EV fanboy but I respect that it's got advantages over ICE and disadvantages as well.
I wouldn't say EV tech is mature; they are continually getting significant improvements in range from the same way size battery pack - isn't that the definition of improving tech? We have probably pushed ICE tech to it's limits and it's only about 20-40% or so efficient and that's taken us 100+ years...even hybrids can't eek out tomorrow much more.
As for the synthetic fuel - we do not have anywhere near the capacity to produce it at a scale to supplant crude oil sources of gas and diesel and we won't for a long time. The EV supporter's arguement is sound that if we have to invest in all new infrastructure for both EVs and synthetic fuels, why invest in something that will have still has significant air quality and other pollution issues.
I will also accept that batter tech is not clean - lots of waste and pollution issues in its end of life cycle too. The complete life cycle impacts for both ICE and battery electric is pretty horrendous but Jason Fenske (Engineering Explained) has done great vids showing that even with it's entire lifecycle, EV is better for the planet than ICE...🤷♂️
Besides, I don't think we need run around cars and most of the shit boxes on the the road to be ICE....the people driving them generally don't care about driving experience...they care about efficiency, ease of use, cost of acquisition, cost of operation, and cost of maintenance....EVs outperform ICE at all the above other than ease of use and cost of purchase at the moment, but both are steadily improving...
IMO, if they can bridge that gap, let the mainstream shit boxes go EV and let's preserve the synthetic fuels for fun cars and such. Better for everyone right!?
@@triaxe-mmb i'm not against EVs at all, but they are not worth the hassel when the infrastructure is already there for liquid fuel to be used,
switching to synthitic fuels isn't that hard, you need a sugar source and a strong yeast for fermentation, so all you need is to harvest some fast growing plants and use them, if the land isn't suitable or you don't have enough water you can use straw, cellulose can be broken down into sugar by the gut bacteria from cows, its just an extra step
most oil producers will switch to it if there was an insentive to go clean, but if there is none they won't invest in it, especially since most of them have been battered the last few years.
it all boils down to two things, the grid isn't reliable enough at least for me to trust it wil transportation, you don't want all your eggs in one basket, its a strategic flaw, and the second one is that there is a better solution out there.
the more i look at it the more pollitically motivated it seems, one is based on reliance and the other on relative freedom, we will see where it goes from here, there are bigger problems out there, the chip shortage will burry a few automakers, the Q2 results are going to be decisive
@@ssllhh100 synthetic fuels is exceedingly difficult to produce at the scale and volumes that will be needed. I don't know the tech & science behind it but people I trust to know it (including people who have been on this show) have said it isn't a realistic solution for a everyone.
How much sugar crops would we need? Where would the arable land for they come from. Where would the water come from to grow it all? Most straw we grow now goes to feed cattle - are we gonna grow more or grow something else to feed them? Cattle may or may not have their own planetary issues - are we gonna raise more cattle to help with the digestion? If so, where is the land and water for that coming? If we are gonna use the waste the exisitng herds produce, where are we gonna get our fertilizer and other such things from? Half of all fertilizer and almost all organic fertilizer comes from the current livestock herds and agricultural industry waste products. My point is that there is no such things as a free lunch or easy commercial scaling of a technology.
Like I said, synthetic fuels will serve a purpose but how about we make they purpose more narrow and let the mundane daily commuting, freight moving, etc all go electric over time and save this synthetic stuff for uses they are fit for purpose and possible lower impact over time?
