    Informative video! Good explanation of procedure, I have ISF and the Lexus ISF repair manual. I few additional details for a "Fill Transmission Pan with fluid. Spec says it should take 3.4 L or 3.59 US qts. Toyota makes it possible to check fluid levels without Techstream, this may be similar for other vehicles, but this is what my manual states; To check fluid temp without techstream, wire jump between pin 4 and 13 on OBD port (DLC3). Turn off all electrical items, start car, move shift lever between P and M return to P. Now shift between N and D rapidly for 6 seconds, P indicator will turn off when fluid temperature mode is detected. Put car in P, remove jump wire, while car is still running, the P light will turn on at 95F and blink at 42 F. With engine idling and between noted temp, remove overflow plug, catch fluid that comes out, or add fluid until it comes out. Transmission is at correct fluid level, reinstall plugs.

      Yes, this is the correct procedure.

    • @markmoosai
      @markmoosai 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not entirely correct for the GSF and RCF. Replace P with D will cycling through the gears. The D indicator will turn on once it's up to temp. So basically when you going back and forth from D to N. Once correct temp the D light will come on when the car is in neutral. I just did a video I can post it if anyone needs it.

    i recommend doing it on a cold fluid in the morning, first is to make sure that the fluid that suppose to be in the pan are all in there, next is that atf that are in the normal operating temperature are already expanded, atf tends to expand when its in the normal operating temp, thats why when you drain your atf while still hot you took 3 quarts rather than 2quarts when its cold. those 3 quarts that you took will became 2 quarts when it started to cold. then the bad part is that you put 3 quarts of cold new atf back in in which it makes your atf level inside your transmission 1 quart more, so it ends up you over fill your transmission with fluid that is technically bad for your transmission. you would put cold fresh new atf that you buy on the store which is still not on normal operating tempt (fluid that are not yet expanded) . youre not putting hot new atf in (fluiud that are already expanded). so for me draining it on a cold engine usually int he morning is far more safer, fluid level wise than doing it on a hot engine. this is just my opinion.

    How will tech stream help

    • @thehuangbros
      @thehuangbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So toyota techstream will allow you to monitor the transmission’s actual temperature so that you can then open the check valve, which i did not show, to allow the excess to overflow out of the valve. It will overflow at I believe ~130F and once it comes to a trickle, it will be the correct amount since ATF fluid expands with heat. Non F performance cars I believe are a little lower like 113-117F.

    • @thehuangbros

      Ouch that is a tough one since youre past 100k miles which you should not do a flush if never done once before 100k. But youre in luck, add atf fluid the way you see it in this video. Let car idle and measure transmission pan to 113-130 deg. Once its in that range open the transmission pan check valve that requires a allen key. In that temp, once you open the check valve, the excess should flow out then come to a oozing stream and not a trickle. But if you see no stream, then that means you need to add more atf.

      Stick to Toyota ATF WS. When you drain these systems, you do not get all the fluid out. Not even close. So you'll just end up mixing fluids. If that's ok with you, fine, but not sure it's worth the risk. Toyota's version is readily available on the internet and at the dealer via the parts counter.
      Also, in this video, it's unclear if the volumes of fluid were checked at the same temp. If not, you'll get an incorrect reading. Better to do this using the built-in fluid temperature check mode that other commenters here have mentioned.

    • @thehuangbros
      @thehuangbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. You are on the borderline. So at 100k miles or more, it is not recommended to do a trans fluid drain and fill because in that old fluid, the metallic can be what is causing your transmission to not slip. However, If you do one drain and fill, you will still have old fluid in the system which will have metallic still so it would be okay. If I were in your situation, I would do 1 drain and fill and drive for 10k miles to see what it is like, then do another then monitor again to ensure you don't get transmission slippage. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if I need to explain more.

      @@thehuangbros 08 LS 460 when I got it, it was reving over 3k rpm between 20 to 35 mph alots. I had local mechanic drop pan replace filter gasket and fill. He told me the pan was clean no metal shavings just fluid was dark. Still reving same so I took to Toyota and asked them to do a flush and add bottle of Lucas stop slip. My receipt I noticed the only charged me for 5 quartz so I'm sure they didn't flush but just did a drain and fill. Car was shifting just fine after for 1500 miles or so. Last week I had to drop off at Lexus dealer to get all my interior trim replaced for free, I asked them to check battery and transmission fluid level. Trim was over 10k that I got free. When I got car back home now not alot but every now and then it will reve to 3k not often. I hope they didn't drain some fluid but idk. I think I gonna take to Toyota again have them flush or drain and fill with another bottle of Lucas since it was shifting just fine after that and see. Thx for ur help this is by far best car I've ever owned and I just want to get it right 👍

      Glad you are loving your car. So it sounds like you do have transmission slippage that is why it revs high. So because there has been drain and fills, multiple times it sounds, you may need to add the additive for non slip stuff from Lucas like you said.

      @@thehuangbros Yea I'm probably gonna have them do 1 more drain and fill with Lucas. What do u think about having them fill it with Amsoil? Capacity is like 11.5 quarts and drain and fill only like 4 quarts so it will be like 7 quarts or Toyota WS mix with Amsoil 4 quarts?

    Where did you learn that over 100k miles you should not do a drain and flush? That doesn't make any sense to me.

    • @thehuangbros
      @thehuangbros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the car has not done any trans service for 100k, it is recommended not to do a drain and fill due to it possibly draining what could be keeping the trans from slipping
