  • Comparing two service carts for use in an automotive repair shop. Cornwell and US general. Who do you think makes the better cart? Maybe surprising.

    Harbor freight is running rings around the "Box Truck" tool carts. It just takes time for the little guys to catch up and shame the others.

      Only if you’re cheap ! Other than that it’s decent

    I bought two of the HF boxes one for home and one for work they are hands down the best deal out there and they're made well. One of the guys at work liked mine so much he bought one and loves it.

    Almost bought the US general but my Snap On student discount let me get their version for around $200 more. But it is a sturdy cart and if I didn’t have the discount I would have went for it. Though I think the 90 day warranty is too short. But it’s funny that you mention the pry bar area, i dropped something in there when I was putting stuff in my Snap On for the first time and it took about 20 minutes with a claw tool and a stick magnet to get the item out. Huge oversight.

    Harbor freight just needs to offer a slide top

      Agreed. I just traded in my orange 6 drawer full bank us general for a 5 drawer slide top Cornwell. 7 if you count the two slide drawers. I thought I'd lose space but between the top and slides I fit the top of my us general and a drawer and a half in the slides and top of my Cornwell. I wasn't going to do it at first because I wanted the 6 drawer snap on but it was too expensive so I was content with the us general. Then Cornwell guy comes with a brand new scratch and dent (scratch on handle from pallet jack at factory) from $2600 to $1950 plus gave me $350 for mine. So I couldn't pass up $1,600 for a $2,600 cart that I wanted to begin with.

    I bought the harbor freight box just like he was in red a couple weeks ago. Harbor freight has them priced at $599.00 now, they emailed me a coupon for 25% off any item so I ended up picking one up for $450 which I thought was a terrific deal and it is a very well made heavy duty cart

    I remember 20 years ago - with my father - making fun of the, "cheap, Chinese junk tools" from HF... Then about 15 years ago, we stopped talking about them altogether... 10 years we picked up a big prybar cuz, "what's the difference..?"
    then yeah, got a bunch of stuff from them since... Decent enough to save money on infrequently used tools

    Have the same Cornwell cart I got used for $1000. Looking to upgrade to the harbor freight. The extra drawer on the HF cart is really tempting

    For drawer liners....either of the two yoga mats will work. Just cut to fit....very affordable.

    Having one more drawer always wins. More the better.
    I think US GENERAL has the space to add 2 more drawers within the same space

    Fairly new to Cornwell as I've spent near 15-18k with matco and a few snap on tools (mainly zeus scanner). But those bumpers make me seriously doubt the value/quality. Though I have a 12 year old set of Cornwell 1/2 drive impact sockets that haven't split yet that have seen some very harsh work.

    I bought the US General and agree, it's great, especially for the money! I also have a used Cornwell cart with 3 drawers....my Cornwell man said that one is better built than the new ones.

    I have the same Cornwell cart but slide top the one thing I wish it had was the slide lock on the drawers. I really pondered between these two for a while I got a scratch and dent for $850 otherwise I would’ve bought the Us General.

      Lucky. I got a scratch and dent matte red slide top (scratch on handle from pallet jack at the factory) for $1,600. It was originally $2,600 marked down to $1,950 - $350 for my orange 6 drawer full bank us general like the one in this video.

    The Cornwell is such a horrible deal. One of my co-workers got suckered into buying a used one from a Matco dealer for $1,400 lol

    the biggest issue i have with the cornwell cart (i have one) is that the drawers slide open on thier own after a couple months. i have to lock all the drawers everytime i have to move. Be careful with that thing if all those drawers slide out at the same time its gonna be bad.

  • @Xerthedragon

    Another important difference to note with the US General is the mounting location of the gas struts. They're higher up and mounted on the outside of the tool tray area. The Cornwell struts are gonna steal a ton of what would otherwise be usable space there. Having 6 drawers vs 5 is also a huge difference to me, can store a lot more things in there

  • @haroldswick9962

      ive had the cornwell for 4 years. its terrible. casters falling apart. drawers all open when you move it if you don't lock it. less space. its horseshit.

    Either remove the bottom drawer or reach in with a grabber or turn the cart upside down (remove draers first obviously), its easy

    HF drawers have tooooo much slop. They can go side to side which makes a full drawer (not overloaded) annoying to close.

      they all do that. including the cornwell in this video that i have.

      @@Yonny316 I have the Cornwell power cart, a pro series 76, two monster Mobile carts a Matco retro series and a us general cart. The us general has the worst drawers of them all.

    • @Yonny316
      @Yonny316 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BigRockyD is it the new us general? Remember it's $600 not $1800. My cornwell casters imploded, I have to lock the box to move anywhere because all the drawers will slide open the damn thing tilts back and forth. After 3 years for $1800.

    • @BigRockyD
      @BigRockyD 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Yonny316 my nice boxes stay where they are and the carts are what move around and take the abuse. The general is a couple years old so not sure if that’s the new design or not but the Matco cart has held significantly better than the general and i treat them the same. I do indeed like that Cornwell doesn’t have locking drawers because I work on the fly but I can see how that would be an annoyance if you’re moving them around. Can’t speak on the casters yet, once they 76 and the power cart arrived they stay where they are.

      My us general had deep gouges on the sides of the drawers from play in the sliders. My Cornwell slide top is a lot more solid. But I liked my 6 drawer full bank. Only traded it in because I got a killer deal on a new Cornwell slide top. Scratch and dent (pallet jack hit the handle at the factory and scratched it.) plus Cornwell gave me $150 more than I paid for the us general. Got it on marketplace for $200, Cornwell bought it for $350 and sold it for $420.
