  • Let's see how the New Holland Boomer handles the Baumalight Brush Mulcher. Tractor Time with Tim has used the mulcher on the Deere 2038R and Kenton's Deere 4052R but can the blue New Holland do the job?

    While everyone is correct a skidsteer with a mulcher head would be the best method.
    I dont have any intrest in buying a second 40-60k +/- machine and 10 - 20k +/- mulcher head to sit and collect dust to use solely for forestry.
    As for renting 350$ for 3 hours to upwards to 1500$ for a week just for a small skidsteer with a bucket. Would not want to guess what a unit to run a forestry mulch head per day/weekly
    Unfortunately we did not have time to get some tall grass thru the brush buster.
    Most of what I mow with the machine is not much bigger than what we took on here or smaller down to overgrown grass.
    I already own the tractor for multiple jobs around the property & house most of my work is finish mowing, brush cutting, tilling and minor dirt/gravel maintenance, snow removal if we get any.

      Renting a skid steer with forestry mulcher attached near me costs the same as hiring one! $10,000 for a Baumalite pays for itself after a few acres of clearing

      Still think the Brown Tree Cutter @ $10,000 would be a much better machine. Just my opinion. Just don't care for all that discharge going under my tractor.

    Great Vidya Tim. The compact tractor market has lots of nuances and caveats when it comes to specs. I have a Boomer 45 with a cab, and it only has 38 hp at the PTO. It makes shopping for attachments something I can only do for my skidsteer. Thanks again buddy. Cheers.

    Another enjoyable video. I don't see this as a Deere vs New Holland video as it seems more of a comparison of different types of attachments and their capabilities. New Holland makes a series called the Workmaster which may have the same HP as the Boomer series but the hydraulics are slightly less and they also don't have all of the bells and whistles of the Boomer. Green or blue doesn't matter, just keep the video's coming. God Bless!

Just joking, like all tractors no matter the colors.(Just think of those poor saps with no tractors.) Glad to see good folks having a good time and putting some very good information out there. It is just like picking a tractor, the attachment is the same depends what you need to get done and what fits your need the best. Been enjoying watching for about a year now but this will be my 1st comment. Tim & Christy you two do a wonderful job documenting your work with your equipment. I think it is neat you work so well together. I live north of you several hours and can relate to much of what you say about climate and ground, etc.
    I found this series especially interesting since I owned a 54D for several months then downsized to a Boomer 40 w/cab. I sure would have loved either implement for clearing my tree line but used what I had (a 72" Piranha bar on my 40). I must admit is was TONS of fun using it. One thing I wanted to comment about was the CVT. When I was around my pond, inching up to the edge with the 54D there was always a HUGE pucker factor as I got my front tires near the ponds edge esp if I had to jam it in reverse real quick. That is where the traditional HS and 2-pedals of the 40 really shines.....instant reverse and no chance of goofying up. Anyway keep the tractor videos coming and stay safe !

    In a car cvt transmission there is a chain between two v-shaped pulleys. The chain rides between the v's, around both pulleys. As the v in one pulley moves closer together, the other will move apart. Giving you seamless acceleration. Kind of like a v-belt driven go-cart.

    The parts illustrations at Messicks for the Boomer 54D shows the CVT "Variator" using a belt and pulleys, very similar to a golf cart or snow mobile transmission. It also does not show the belt available separately but only as a complete variator unit to the tune of $8500.

    The John Deere IVT and Command 8/16 have the reverser on the joystick so yeah 5r/6r.
    Yeah any of the skid steer hydraulic mulchers I have used have had at least a double row of chains if not a overlapping rubber belting to reduce the ejection of debris.
    Although that makes me wonder if you could use a small hydraulic driven mulcher on the front of a setup like the 54D and get the best of both worlds. Without having a skid steer

    How often will the teeth on the mulched need to be changed. It may depend on the ground material. A rocky soil like my chaliche gravel soil reall ate up the teeth on a commercial mulcher. The machine roller was 9 feet wide and 4 feet high. The operator told me it was really wearing his mulcher teeth out. Those teeth were very large perhaps 3-4 inches wide so they were not playing around.

    I’ve watched all the videos in “this series” and I get it, as Tim says, they want to do work with tractors - but to do those tower areas with those thick trees, to do it properly and somewhat efficiently, you need a forestry mulcher on a skid steer. Until tractors come with 20 + GPM internal my dream (that is ALL I can do is dream) is a PTO mounted hydraulic power supply to feed: mowers, snow blowers, brooms etc. I would worry about a hydraulic pump bolted rigid to the draw bar and mounted to the PTO spline shaft. I can see a shattered rear end housing. Quick Attach makes the HP35 (80+ HP) that uses a shaft and clutch or shear pin driven pump. M K Martin and Land Pride also makes similar units. These are all expensive but I can dream. The HP15, HP20 and HP24 all look like a bunch of other hydraulic units. I think the ag tractor / implement markets are populated by manufacturers that private label a bunch of other brands. These last videos have been fantastic. Say hey to the camera operator. Thanks and take care.

    I have an acre or so that is over grown with brush and small (< 3") trees, similar to the tower property. I've used the backhoe to dig out some trees in a small area, but that is slow going and leaves pock-marked ground. Is there an attachment that you'd recommend for a 1025R that could clear an area like that? It doesn't have to be as fast as what you're doing, but as you say, I'm not 25 anymore and it would be nice if the tractor could do the bulk of the work.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I fully intended to try this mulcher on the 1025r. However, after I got it, I realized that the 1025r would not have enough umph!
      Adding a heavy hitch toothbar to your loader would allow you to dig out some of the brush much faster than a backhoe.
      Not sure it will get the 3" stuff, but it WILL get the 1-2" trees, honeysuckle, rose bushes, etc.
      Maybe you could get them all except the largest, then use the backhoe on those?

    • @ptek1185
      @ptek1185 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TractorTimewithTim Thanks Tim! I do have a piranha tooth bar on my loader. I had read that the HH toothbar is better at digging and the piranha is better at removing brush. When I tried it (don't remember what size brush I was working on - probably attacked some of the larger stuff right away), either the wheels (R4s) would spin or when I got a good bite on the brush, the hydraulics would go into relief when I tried to curl the bucket to pull the brush out.
      Either I've found the 1025R's limit or my technique needs work. I'll try starting on some 1" stuff and hopefully learn some tips for tackling the larger brush.

    I’m looking to purchase the MP360 for a Kioti NX5510. Wondering if you could answer a couple questions for me. First, how are the teeth looking on this unit? At $1000 to replace a full set on the 60” they’re not cheap. Have you rotated your teeth at all or are they still going strong? How many Acres have you cleared so far with this unit? What about the belt, still in good shape? Secondly, my main concern is the material being shot back underneath the tractor. The Kioti is notorious for having a weak exposed belly including a belly mounted gas tank. Have you torn anything off the bottom of any of the tractors you’ve used this on? I love the finished product that this machine offers but it’s not cheap to purchase and if it’s even more expensive to operate I may look more along the lines of their CP560 brushmower.

    Tim i have a question, you said that brush mulcher is rated for 45ptohp. What happens if you go over its rated hp?

    • @TractorTimewithTim

      Maybe gearbox failure, maybe shaft failure, etc...

    At 13:49:you need chains on this mulcher!Look at the wood piece flying!

    on the brush mower if lack of chains is for cost reasons i would rather pay the extra instead of possible paying for new hoses or pipe

    • @KevinBenecke
      @KevinBenecke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another good solution would be if the companies that made the tractors also put removable guards over all of the hoses and wires that run underneath the tractor so people wouldn't have to worry about ripping things off if they run over things or things are thrown. Maybe even skid plates.

      This was the point of our discussion about things being cut all the way to the ground. I do not think there will be a problem where the mulcher was ran. I DO think there will be issues where a brush mower was used.

    Man backing into brush and tres can easily put a limb threw your window not to mention your head. You guys are rookies for sure, so your lack of experience shines through... is it good for some things yes. As far as a skid steer goes, I do not like that method either. Put a forestry head on a excavator and keep all the danger away from you... I am not saying it is a nice set because it is. Danger is surely a issue with that set up. Ask me how I know? I swear by an excavator with a mulching head, keep the danger away from you

    That thicket looks like my farm! That stuff is hard to get down! Every since you Tim got me into a tractor and now a grapple I been cutting with a chain saw. Then grab with grapple go pile burn and repeat. I'm in my 40s. It's a bit tuff but I'm getting there. Your videos have helped tremendously! Keep up the great work Tim and Cristy!!!
