if ur just doing a pad swap... you dont even need to pull the caliper.
just pull the pin. its top loading.

that only works if youre old brake pad is the same width as your new pad, otherwise itll be a tight fit since the caliper is pressing against the rotor and you need to push it back - easier when it's off.

No. Pads are usually bigger going on. Use a compressor. Screw driver anything n compress gently.

This guy shouldn't be making videos on stuff he clearly knows little about . No mention of watching the reservoir levels when compressing the pistons to accept new brake pads. NEVER EVER EVER use a G clamp to force pistons back There's no "feel" due to the mechanical advantage and you could easily damage the seals / dust covers. Just use the old brake pads as a lever to force back the pistons.

The stock pads on the FJR are more than enough for me, I have no need for change at all.
Do you plan on doing steel braided lines? I've thought about doing them on my MT 07 when I need a brake job

Okay, we got confirmation 2 sets are needed and FJ and FZ brakes are the same. But the fact is, is this pad model meant for FZ09s? Amazon says otherwise. Anyone can confirm? and I have a '14, anybody know if any differences in the pads?
My tracer failed its mot on pulsating discs,it was cheaper to buy galfer discs than yamaha ones,the difference even still on yamaha pads was very noticeable i had to backboff the adjustment on lever.

Stock pads will do an endo too.. no need for new pads.. comming from an a brand new gsxr 600 to fz09 so ive “experienced” better brakes.

I'm such a dumb Neanderthal, I would never think of putting protection on my paint. I ended up scratching my swingarm paint installing the Stoltech rear reservoir relocation bracket when wrenching on the back nuts. Didn't take much to leave a scratch. A great video as always, thanks for the content and pad recommendation! Just thought I'd mention for others reading comments that I did the job without removing the calipers. Removing them is easy, but it's one less step and was super-easy with calipers in place. Same method, pads slide straight in from the top. My bike has 10,000 km on the clock, pads were mildly worn. Apologies if this has been written elsewhere. Rainy day here in Perth, want to break the new pads in!

Finally swapped my front brakes in my 19 Tracer for the EBC’s… Huge difference.. Much better. After they broke in I felt my ABS kick in for the first time since I bought it new in 20. Great advise, happy I did it and excellent video…Thanks.
Not sure if you still know much about this bike. I have the Tracer GT. I have dialed in the preload in the front all the way and still getting 45mm. I have the back to 35 3 clicks put on the preload adjuster. I only weigh 85kg. It seems a bit long for being all the way in. Do you think I need harder springs? Thanks.
Right on again. My Ducati monster 796 surprised me when I first got it. Very powerful brakes, my rear brake was useless as the rear wheel was always up or floating. It just needs two fingers for standard braking.
The only concern with fitting high quality sintered pads to a bike which has oem rotors is the potential to warp the rotors under heavy use. Not suggesting that this is the case with Yamaha, other manufacturers, or particular models, but there's a reason top drawer sports bikes have top drawer rotors with pads specced to suit. Material composition and thickness affect heat dissipation, fade etc. It's a factor you need to weight up in terms of braking performance versus longevity of parts. Personally, I would never skimp on braking, so accept the additional cost.
idk about the tripple family but the fz-07 is fine and doesn't take much to send you OTB
Set of stainless braided lines and a thorough purge/bleed would also make a world of difference. That, and higher spring rates, better compression damping in the forks.
Why did you go for the Double-H and not the EPFA?
These calipers are very similar to how Brembos work on a car, the pads kind of just slide out so you dont have to remove the caliper. ALthouogh I would remove them anyway just to clean and observe for damage.
I literally was looking for someone to show me that half my brakes were not missing hahaha. Why do the brake calipers look like it's got it's cover missing over the shims.

spoiler alert,you dont need to remove the brake caliper,remove the pin,take the small rod out,wiggle them a bit with a flat screw driver,and pull the pads out

no probs,didnt meant to sound offensive or a know it all,mind you,but spreading the pistons on this bike is very easy,as it is still new,and generally kept clean,also not enough time has passed yet so that there is excessive grime buildup to make the pistons seize(at least not so much that a brake cleaner cannot clean easily),you can use either a plastic spudger or even with your fingers if you are afraid of damaging the disc or the pistons,or the special tool that looks kinda like a clamper but reverse,but the whole point of this brake caliper is to change the pads without removing it.
the ABS sensor is very easy to damage,and most people dont have a torque wrench to put the caliper back in,or are accustomed to the force you need to tighten it,risking overtightening it,or not enough,both bad for the caliper,the nut and the seating.
ive changed countless pads on calipers like these,not only on axial mounted calipers,but on normal ones as well,where you dont have enough space to remove the caliper without removing the wheel together as well.
i find that way a lot easier and mess-free,as you dont really need any tools,except some hard plastic or a screwdriver covered in a cloth or ductape

I have big strong hands and still needed a c-clamp. Most bikes have the ability to remove the pads on the wheel, but having them off is the best way to go and always works.
Good video, thanks. I'm used to riding an S1000RR and it has terrific front brakes. Two weeks ago, I bought a black 2018 MT09 as a second bike. Initially with only 3 miles on the bike when I did my test ride, the front brakes' initial bite felt pretty weak compared to what I'm used to on the BMW. I now have about 330 miles on the MT09 and have been riding it a lot in our local twisty canyons. After about 100 miles, I remember saying to my wife that the front brakes feel really good now that they are bedded in. Bedding in made a huge difference. I brake with one finger and have no trouble stopping with the stock brake pads. And I rarely if ever use the rear brake. But I'm lighter than you at about 195 pounds. So maybe that's the reason the stock pads work for me. In any event, I am happy for now. I may very well install the EBC sintered brake pads when it is time to change out these stock pads. Thanks again for your videos on this bike. They have really been helpful for me. My next project is to install Pazzo adjustable shorty levers. Then the quick shifter...
Yes bedding makes a big difference but mine were long before the switch. The sintered are day and night.

Woow looks very dramatic even pulling a stoppie with much heavier bike!! I ride a '22 Tracer 7 and done a couple of advanced riding schools where they teach you to do emergency braking from 55mph, I always traveled the most distance of the group, never engaged the ABS and squeezed the brakes with 4 fingers as hard as I could! This is a no brainer and gonna put some on ASAP!!

Non-issue, they are no where near that aggressive.
Pads and rotors are wear items. Expect to replace either if you own a bike long enough. The main concern is great breaking response, power, and feedback.
Another video showing the hard way to replace pads! Just get some Vesrah VD-248 pads and install from the rear, don't remove the calipers. It's 2019 for gosh darn sakes. Much better than EBC.

Difference in this case is GG vs HH (organic vs sintered). On motorcycles that comes with hh pads from the Manufacturer, difference is smaller, if any (in both directins: for worse or better, but for road use, not that much of a difference). My OEM pads for front wheel (Nissin HH) are 3x more expensive than EBC HH, so no brainer, and braking efficiency and durability are more or less the same

They do. You are probably doing something wrong. They use the same parts.

I bought this pads and i was too lazy to install them myself but when i serviced my MT09 i gave the mechanic to change it for me.... I've been riding for 8,500km or 5300 miles and i love them... much better than stock and i LOVE the power the way i can quickly reduce the speed so drastically

My brakes on my MT 09 2017 sometimes make a clunk noise when braking. I have installed these pads and the clunking was there before. It came after adjusting the front suspension to tightest spot. Works great though and no issues. But it's there sometimes and I dont like it. Any tips?

I am going to install Spiegler Stainless Steel Brake Lines for the front and rear. Quick question... What size tool did you use to remove the front wheel orange reflectors? Its a small nut and screw. Any advise on getting that off the wheel?
I have an XSR900. The ABS kicks in too early. I find it obtrusive (it sounds like the MT09/FZ09 is the same)!
Hmm, now that you've been riding these new brakes for awhile. Are you getting any vibrations while braking? I'm only asking because I know when you replace pads on cars you generally want to resurface the rotors because they conform to the older pads. Just seeing if the same logic applies to bikes
Bike rotors wear out much slower with stock pads than cars. These were virtually new when I changed them. They are perfect.

Great reminder to upgrade the front brakes. I have a V-Strom and have noticed the mediocre front brakes. Front pads are now on my list

Great information, going to order these pads soon for my XSR. Do you have any personal recommendations for the rear brake? I'm also thinking of doing a line upgrade to braided lines, however I feel the ABS will negate the positive effects of the harder braking. What do you think?

The rear already locks up easily and I find no need for braided. Feel is very good stock.

I’m gonna do this to my 19 Tracer. I’m not very happy with the stock brakes. I used your video for installing the quick shifter. Your video was the best on TH-cam. Was a big help. I love that quick shifter and now can’t live without it. I think I’ll feel the same way about the brake upgrade… Thanks
How did you feel about your quickshifter when you first try it? Was it smooth or kinda clunky? I have the same bike you have and just installed quickshifter as well.
have you thought about upgrading to stainless brake lines? I installed stainless lines on my last bike and it was pretty easy and was about 100 bucks for the front which I didn't think was that bad. I see your FZ has ABS, which may complicate it though
I have in the past mostly for looks. I have zero need with this setup, the feel is excellent.
Just installed mine a few days ago, and holy crap the new pads did make a HUGE difference, thank you for making this video and thank you for making me spend more money, I did the ECU re-flash and the brakes now, I wonder what is next on the list you gonna convince me to do, haha!

You may have tightened your calibers slightly off. Loosen the mount bolts, hold the brake and snug them back then fully tighten - to better self center.

With the c-clamp. Put one of the old pads in, compress one of the pistons all the way to make room.

Just a simple comment. Often folks change their front pads to anything even the same brand model pads and all of a sudden wallah the brakes are better. Why? Because what they did is and especially if the bars were turned right is they got rid of an air bubble up at the banjo bolt next to the master cylinder when they had to compress the pistons back in to make room for new thicker pads. Been there, done that. Some of the newer bikes I've come across already had pads as good as the EBC HH, and I am a big fan of the HHs.
Not this issue whatsoever. This was a new bike and they are known to be crap pads.
@@TwoWheelObsession Understood, just wanted to inform as so many forget how common air in the line at that point is and how important it is to get rid of it is. The same issue with hydraulic clutches happens and sometimes you must do a reverse bleed to cure it on certain bikes based on how the lines are routed. Look up reverse bleed if not familiar.

you need to clean your piston and either rubber grease them or lithium grease or you will end up with seized pistons.
as for the pads, never put pads in dry always copper grease on the back of the pad so that they dont seize to your piston rim and also helps with micromovements so they dont ever scream.
