This video is very true, but I actually enjoy having a (legendary) project in GW2. There are so many things to do, that having a goal feels nice. Especially Aurora and Vision were very enjoyable for me.
If you liked crafting those, I highly recommend doing one of the "long" Gen 2s. I've made all 4 and their journeys are truly unique. The rest of the legendaries feel lacking by comparison. Nevermore, Astralaria, Chuka & Champawat and H.O.P.E.
How making legendaries feels like : Step 1 : "I'm making a new legendary, I'm so excited to have this beautiful new shiny thing!" Step 2 : "oh my god, what have I done? It's taking me ages, kill me know plz!" Step 3 : "wow! Look at my new shiny weapon, I look cool as hell!" Step 4 : feeling like an empty shell without goal anymore Step 5 : going for another legendary, go back to step 1. It tooks me 7 years to make my first legendary, and in one year, I've done 1 amulet, 3 weapons and a whole armour set (and each Gen 3 variant for my dagger) send help, I'm addicted!
A common experience I'm gathering! I was the same as well.. Got my first legendary weapon after playing for 6 years, then made 2 armor sets, 4 weapons, and 4 out of the 6 trinkets in half that time. lol
This is how it feels as someone who wants to start and is looking at the step by step instructions. Also, I couldn't stop laughing at the Mystic Toilet.
there is a big sitenote as not all Legendarys are worth buying the precursor in fact some of the precursor hunts will grant you additional benefits like special mini pets, an interesting journey and even unique places to visit + other cosmetics you can't get from anywhere else. And of course you can only buy the precursor for the core game legendarys as well so you need to know what you are looking for.and check if it is worth to buy or better to craft for the benefits. (also achievement points!!!!!) ;P
I'm currently sort-of working on Aurora on and off. I really like that you need to put so much work into it, but at least I know that my legendary won't be useless come next expansion. Still a very true and honest take, though. Made me grin. Thanks for that :)
Pro tip: go to lions arch, and at least START all the precursors collections (when you are able to after unlocking the mastery). That way as you play, you'll unlock random stuff for each by killing whatever nonsense boss or opening various chests, etc.
I spent a year to make my first legendary because I refused to suffer. 😆 Also listen to the advice people, if you can for the one you want, get the precursor.
I vaguely remember the tediousness of getting the gryphon mount and am I'm at the second to last phase(I HOPE) to get the heli- drake, I don't think I'm ready to make a legendary, even after 2.4k hours.
I am currently working on finishing a set of legendary armor from WvW on 2 accounts. This spring I finished the bird stick and space axe [Nevermore and Astralaria]. With all that time spent in WvW I am sitting on a nice stash of gifts of battle. So by the end of this year if every thing goes to plan that will be 14 or more legendary items crafted [ I plan on making some of the new shiny ones that came with with End of Dragons]. .... now back to farming up them pips to get diamond rank
This is why I haven't even considered starting one. The amount of time, materials, gold, and patience required is just not worth the hassle. I simply just cannot be bothered, just looking at the very long road ahead to get it, I just don't go there. It's like everytime I come across a forked road that has the sign: Legendary this way, I swerve and drive in the opposite direction.
I understand it for legendary weapons but you should consider legendary trinkets and backpack. It's usually what people advise to do first since they are easier to craft and more valuable because you will be able to use them on all characters.
This was me!!! In time, as your bank swells, you may change your mind. Before you know it, you'll end up having half the necessary stuff already just from doing other things. When you reach that point, it becomes a easier task. Then take a couple of months off to replenish and then start eyeballing the next project. That's the best way to approach it to avoid burnout. Once you get to the point where you are farming T4 fractals daily, legendaries become much easier to get due to the loads of gold and mats you get. Not to mention trading fractal currency for clovers to help the process along. It's all about spending your playtime wisely. ;)
@@soulguardian.6203 all legendaries are shared among all characters. You can have them equipped simultaneously - no swapping around. More a description of Gen 1 than 2 or 3, (since 2&3 don't require Gift of Exploration) but yes, a lot of that is accurate. However, I never had to throw things in the Mystic Forge on the chance of getting something, not sure what that's about, unless you mean turning Mystic Coins into Clovers?? If so I usually just wait till I have 77 Clovers from log-in and reward tracks. And OMG, yeah the Gift of Battle is so tedious!! And I just buy off TP the Memories of Battle needed. And finally, I like making ones I don't see everyone walking around with. I saw many Moot, so I made Eureka, I saw many Incinerators so I made Claw of Khan-Ur, same w/Dreamer so I made C&C, Nevermore so I got Bifrost, etc etc. Next up since everyone has Predator I'm gonna do HMS Divinity Rifle. It's the best you can do to stay semi-original.

Lol, throwing things into the mystic toilet. We can only be greatful that Legendary recipes including the mystic toilet arent rng based. Well, except the clovers anyway. I sympathise with the WvW - it's not my favourite, but with the right boosts, you can condense an eight hour task into just 4 hours! And hey, doesnt matter if everyone else has the same legendary, you can transmog legendaries for free so it can look like whatever you want
Yeah... I understand the "SHINEY" aspect of getting a leggie. But... The year or so of getting the mats, raids, and other stuff? I see all that and go... Nope, Ascended is just as good. Been working on getting my leggies for like 5 years now and each time I start I will farm for a few days and stop then just do world boss trains for like 2 days and get enough mats to make another ascended.
I mean, if you log in everyday you will get the 77 clovers eventually. Also when you make your first legendary you can sell it and make more legendaries.
my tip for legendaries. Find something you enjoy to do that earns you a decent rate of gold per hour. Save up your gold, and use buy orders to get all the materials via the tradepost. Means you can play what you want to play, and only the world completion (or mapping relevant expansion for Gen 2, 2.5, and 3) and the Gift of Battle require you to do something specific. I've crafted 27 legendaries this way and it's never felt like a grind (except for the Gifts of Battle)
Finally, after owning GW2 for a decade, I made my first legendary yesterday; a Gen 1! This came on the heals of recently getting my griffon and then my skyscale. I was a diehard GW1 player, so the transition to GW2 was difficult for me and I resisted…….for about a decade. Lol. Luckily, I have not seen another copy of my legendary, thus far, so I still feel special!!😊
