I came back recently because of the new expansion, and I was halfway through SotO.. as a firebrand main, the pistols are AMAZING to play and sparked in me the will to keep playing again 🔥

end of dragons - great. its fun. a very nice treat by the end. end of a cycle so a little sad. soto - hated it with a passion, then hated it some more. i still hate it. had the worst time of my life. i dont touch those maps unless i absolutely have to. janthir wilds - beautiful maps. love it. will stay in these maps forever. feels like tyria feels like home. very demure. very mindful.

You have to get Secrets... to not only unlock all the Elite Weapons for your Profession (Reapers with guns, Scourges with Great Sword etc) but get a new bonus weapon (us Necros got Sword for example). And the new Wizard's Vault log in rewards are way better if you have it. Janthir Wilds is well worth it though. Spears? Yes, pretty fun. But the souped-up Warclaw/Journeykin Mount is amazing. No fall damage, triple air jumps and if you got it through WvW originally you get a nice compensation package and ALL the skils (Chain Pull etc). Oh, and there's your actual Player Housing. PLAYER HOUSING. A HOUSE YOU CAN DECORATE. The full area is huge. All your Home Instance nodes, cats etc will be there along with all your alts if you park them there and they get an xp bonus. And they wander around. And your Mounts are in stables. And it's Legendary level of grinding to get all the cool stuff. So yeah, might be worth a go.

If you're looking for new content that's been implemented, the new strikes are good. Also if you can manage to get a group together for it, convergences can be fun. CM convergences are a pain to organize, vut a nice challenge if you have the patience and time to wait around for the groups to fully form. Ridts are fun events to do on maps all throughout the game. The Inner Nayos Meta is pretty fun and the Janthir Syntri meta is an intriguing one. Hopefully this helps.

I play for the story, to be honest.

It's for you the guardian pistol is important go for SOTO, if not go for janthyr wilds the expension have a very good start.

I have full Leggies too (except rings because I refuse to grind for that many Gifts of Battle when I hate WvW with a passion, like when I finished my last Leggie weapon I did a dance around the house that I'd never have to do WvW again, kind of hate) and I have my own guild and hall so I've decorated that a few times, and I have pretty much everything and have played less the last few months because I had nothing left to grind for. I had my alts parked for farms and wasn't doing anything but Dailies still. Then Arenanet said "Hold my Beer" and now Janthir Wilds has Homesteads, which is Player Housing! So yeah, that's what I'll be grinding for now!! I would suggest getting SotO too though for the weapons and the story so you aren't totally lost in Janthir, but so far JW is awesome! Gonna go play it more NOW!!

To have spears and pistols and all the new weapons for classes you need Secrets of the Obscure and Janthir Wilds.

Necro/Reaper with double swords!!! You need SoTo for that. That expac is ok, nothing wonderful. JW is beautiful though so you should definitely get that too :P.

Although it pains me to say, but you should probably play SotO for now. At least the first Act. There you get all relevant info you need to get what happens in JW, as well as the weapon master thingy. First two maps are also pretty cool, also new strikes with cms. CM convergences also pretty fun imo. Everything else in soto is a bit blegh. You can make the new legy armor tho, if you like. But if you want story and lore, definitely jump into JW asap, after catching up on soto. I havent seen such a lore heavy expac since PoF and im absolutely here for it. Gonna set aside my current project for a while to make a short vid about it myself, because i think a lot of ppl missed out on a really intriguing story as well as just earthshattering lore. Maps in JW are also amazing and you wont run out of stuff to do or see for a while.

If you want just one go for the stabby spear. Additionally, some teddy bears will give you your own ranch and the battle cat is much cooler in open world now.

If you already have your lego armor and your Skyscale then you really don't need Soto which I thought was the worst expansion they have released. JW has been pretty good so far but, really just more of the same. I guess the housing might be worth it if you like that kind of thing but if not then the choice is yours.

Was great seeing you online today! Pistol for Guardian is the goat and very much worth the try! Willbender spec from EoD is epic so also try that! Spears are a lot of fun so far. SotO story.. um that's complicated.. but Janthir Wilds is great!

Yeah, buy both expansions and do secrets first so that the Kryptis story makes sense, as the janthir adds upon that and will need the backstory. That and the only way to get the pistols oand or other weapons is in SOTO alongside the nifty can use the elite spec weapons on the class of any elite spec without having to be IN said spec.

You do have to buy the expansions to unlock the new weapon options. It's a bit like elite specs being tied to expansions but without the traitlines.

For the new weapons, yes you do need Secrets, for the spears, Janthir Wilds. New story and maps are worth it especially in Janthir Wilds. Janthir is very story heavy compared to other expac openings.
