    It's motorized, like a MOTORCYCLE which has a clutch on the left handle. Suing for HOT coffee. It's called getting familiar with your purchase.

      If you hear the real or rest of the story on “hot” coffee you will change your mind about that particular incident. Many positive changes came about because of that poor lady’s lawsuit. There were numerous complaints filed against McDonald’s about how extremely hot they were serving their coffee and they did nothing. It was definitely not a frivolous lawsuit.
      If you have Spotify you should listen to this podcast. It will educate you so you don’t ever use this line of thinking again. For people who know the whole story comments like yours just show your ignorance. But you know, it’s not your fault. It’s what you have been told over and over again by those with special interest- that an old lady sued because she wanted to get rich off McDonald’s -

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad I don't know if it's a law but in Europe and maybe Asia they do have the right lever the front brake. I should have said they do it that way there but maybe it's preference rather than law BUT it might be a law.

    She was stupid to use just one brake anyways and squeeze super hard on the one brake... i think she may have been attempting some stunt riding on the bike... you should always use both brakes and squeeze with equal force to maintain the control and stopping power and

      Most people riding e-bikes don’t posses the basic riding skills required. As a shop owner I see only rear brake pads worn. Then I ask them which brake they use when stopping and they either say they don’t know or both. I then say umm no you are only using the rear look how worn your rear pads are compared to the front. Then they almost always oh no I would never use the front I don’t want to go over the bars. Drives me me crazy.

    It should be like a motorcycle, right lever is the front brake and left is the rear brake. I don't understand why bicycles should be backwards ! I have been a motorcyclist for 40 years plus and think bicycles should be the same to keep motorcyclists from getting confused ! Where did this originate ??

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Regarding bikes it’s been this way since I was a kid - I’m 58 so let’s say at least 50 years in the USA. Keep in mind more people ride bicycles than motorcycles so to keep you from being confused would be catering to the minority. And yes I rode motorcycles for 20 years it never confused me on a pedal bike. You don’t have anything to do with your feet but pedal so the brakes are fine left front right rear. Thanks for watching though

    Great video. I’ve only known bikes here in the USA to have right hand control for rear brakes. I’ve also known that so many people have different skill sets when riding. Rider familiarity is so important. Equipment knowledge is important.

    eBikes may let people reach higher speeds than they could otherwise generate.
    Combine higher speeds and inexperienced riders and you have a recipe for disaster.

    I used to love riding bikes back when I was a kid. Been looking into getting an ebike. Honestly I dont give a shit where the brakes are just as long as they have them lol. Sueing over not being used to or remember which side the brake is on that is all on the operator not the bike builders or company.... people are just stupid in America and think they gotta sue for every little thing.

    I ride a motorcycle and bicycle and modulate both front and rear at the same. I just try to avoid grabbing a oh crap full brake, if I do so, am I going straight and will I lose front traction.
    The issue I have is with electric bike, some can maintain a constant faster speed than I pedal. Which makes them more dangerous and folks should be wearing a full face helmet and stay out of the bike lane and path.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you that EBikes don’t really belong on bike paths. EBikes are a danger in our hills here in San Diego. A gentle hill is 3-5% but we have lots of 7-10% hills on major streets with bike lanes and they buzz us on pedal bikes at 20 mph while we’re only doing 8-10 mph many of them try to squeeze between us and the cars it’s crazy. EBikes have completely infested our streets because it is so hilly here than non cyclists just can’t get up and down our hills without an ebike. They are everywhere and they ride them like complete idiots.

    ALL my motorbikes have always had right lever is fron brake. Including my US Harley. And my bicycles too. It would be bizarre to apply front brake using the left lever.
    If she's on an Ebike. Not using a proper motorcycle helmet but just a cycle helmet (don't know for sure) she incurred a lot of responsibility for her injuries.

    Wonder what, if any, liability a US bike mechanic has when servicing a bike brought in that already has this setup.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm… this is a great question. This lawsuit definitely makes me more aware and forces me to have a discussion with my customer. I think the mechanic is so far down the line from the root cause that we’re safe from liability. I see our responsibility as pointing out the federal law, advise them that we could re wire, re cable everything and possibly bill the work to the manufacturer or the retailer as warranty or federal law compliance. This will come up again in my shop I know it. Thank you for the discussion point.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question. Here’s the thing, as I understand the federal law is a customer can request a custom build in moto style. So no I would not have any reservations building their bike moto style.

      Here is an excerpt from the article “Penkert's attorney, Nick Verderame of the Phoenix personal injury law firm Plattner Verderame, said the right-hand positioning of the Swirl's front brake violates federal law governing bicycle design. The law states a bicycle's front brake must be actuated by a control on the left side of the handlebar. Reversals are only allowed for custom bikes.”

    I am in the USA and I ride a cheap ZNEN gy6 50cc scooter, and it has the front brake on the right lever, and the rear brake on the left. I bought it used and it came that way. It looks as if that was the factory setup. It is a 2010. I have a motorcycle endorsement and I used to ride street bikes with a clutch on the left, so having the scooter front brake on the right was familiar. I was unaware that it had an illegal setup until I saw this video. Thanks. Now, I can correct that and sue ZNEN. Just kidding.

      From the article
      “The Swirl is available for sale on Phantom-Bikes.com for $2,295. Costco still lists the bike for sale on its website. Walmart appears to have sold the bike as well, although it's currently out of stock. The number of Swirls sold in the U.S. is unknown, although Toma said in an August 2020 interview with his vendor platform, C2FO, that Costco had ordered $400,000 worth of Phantom e-bikes in November 2019. The Swirl is currently the only Phantom Bikes e-bike available for sale on Costco's website.””
