There are just so many brands out there and it's great to see local companies expanding into this space while adopting widely used standards for that interoperability assurance. Most of us home owners are not paying enough attention to the fire safety and cyber security aspects, with me included 😛

This video is just so timely. I'm currently exploring on Tuya platforms and I was about to purchase a host of unknown brands trying my luck on smart switches etc for my reno. Glad you brought up on the reliability issue with certs/warranty etc. Will look into NEAR products to make a decision. Keep up the good work.

I have always thought that smart homes are too complicated so having someone to introduce the smart home concept and recommend products for us to use is very educational and helpful!
I have been using only tuya smartlife products for my home. They are pretty easy and straightforward to set up for beginners to smarthome system. So glad to see you reviewing some of their products, especially from local companies! I'm definitely interested in the robot vacuum to help me and my wife with the daily house chores (:

Hi Jay, me too! I am also using Tuya products for my home as well. They are easy to set up and able to integrate with Amazon Alexa which I am using as my home assistant.

Great to see a review on local companies in the smart home market. It really hits the main reason of why we should get it locally. As cost comes down, it makes more sense to get locally for warranty and peace of mind knowing that these products are made for use in Singapore by Singapore companies. I first came across Near.SG one year ago. And been using their lighting system and have to say it’s fantastic. Kudos to them and you for doing this review!

The last part of your video is essential for all beginners, especially for countries where not all the brands are available. getting to know the process of the app and which one has linked to which platform is important.

Appreciate your concise and honest review! I like the Tuya Smart Home products, especially the Mowe robovac! I'm a foreign worker here in SG and the only tenant of 'Uncle' and 'Auntie.' I've been living with them since 2011 because they have been good to me. If I will be lucky to get selected, I would like to use the robovac in their HDB flat so that in a way I'm helping them clean the living area and dining area while they are sleeping. Currently, we are using a traditional mop.

Thanks for explaining the tuya devices. I got their ir device as per previously recommended by you and never regretted it since. Now I can adjust the aircon and fans easily from the bed.

Another amazing educational video - gotta say the whole smart home eco system can be quite confusing to navigate and I'm always so grateful when someone can translate all the difficult technical things into something that new (or existing) homeowners can understand and appreciate! It's still really easy to get confused over what brands can offer vs what their products actually do (e.g. Tuya Smart Life vs Google Home) so I found all those extra clarifications at the end of the video super useful - pls keep them up! Really looking forward to your next video and am using your videos as a quick guide to getting my own smart home journey started (just in time for my new place!). 🥰

Thanks for showcasing local companies' Tuya products! I've successfully installed Aqara switches integrated with Google Home/Smartthings for my bedroom and study room. Trialing them before i get my own place this year! Satisfied so far but happy (and open) to hear of other options that i can consider!

Watching your videos is really helpful in educating myself about the available smart home options in Singapore. Most of the content online is usually in US/CN and it is not immediately apparent how the functions translate to the local use case.
Even though its still a couple of years away till I get my own space, many of the pointers you have given will definitely help in the decision making process when the time comes for me to make the purchases.

many overseas brand are fine as well! just be careful of super cheap and brandless ones

Chanced upon your videos just when I started reno for my house. And thanks to you I am deep in the smart home rabbit hole. Your videos are straight forward and easily understood. But after watching this video I am kinda worried as I bought wireless tuya smart switches online from China. Do you think I should change to zigbee switches instead?
yeah get zigbee over wifi if possible
Good questions! Alex is right, go for Zigbee switches because most Zigbee switches do not have neutral wires (compatible with Singaporean homes) & Zigbee products act as repeaters which helps tremendously with responsiveness!
