Lots of negatives about Kennedy get posted, but usually when weather, bottlenecks etc. happen, these guys are right on it. They had only one runway available during a snow event and handled it very well. The largest line up and wait line I ever counted amounted to 23 planes waiting their turn. The ones at the end looked all jumbled up as control was trying to find spaces for them.

Non-English mind responding to "Are you cleared to the gate?":
      Internal monologue:
      "Am I cleared-to-the-gate?"
"Wait, why are they clearing the gates?"
"Is it something special they do in this airport that I should know about?"
"Anyways, I wasn't clearing them, I was just flying the plane"
"Wait. Maybe they mean if the gate is free and available"
"Maybe I should have called the gate and asked them to clear previous passengers or something"

Lined up for departure at Tullamarine Melbourne, early evening, only one runway in use for arrivals and departures..was about 5 in the line, and out to the right as far as I could see was a line of lights of incoming flights..it was like watching a really well choreographed dance...with such precise timing, I wondered what would happen if the timing got stuffed up. The answer came a few years later when an aircraft was too slow in clearing the runway, which caused the incoming plane to make a go around, which in turn put him within 1km of another aircraft...it was a great piece of flying..by that pilot..who managed 3 big moments all at once...and 3 plane loads of people all got home safely for dinner.

Wonder if that Delta close to timing out took off in time, or had to return to terminal and face pissed off passengers, while a backup crew was found?

I know this is a year old but if they were 10 minutes from timing out they were probably arrivals waiting to get into the ramp. That 10 minute call was probably them being like "hey, we are legally obligated to get where we need to fast."

quite nice to see the destination next the plane names, noticed a AMS (The Netherlands, Schiphol). there is usually only 1 flight (sometimes 2) a day for each North-American airport they fly to/from, the flight lands in the morning and leaves a couple hours after.
