I was on my first solo cross country flying into Ottawa Int. My biggest concern was not screwing up on the radio. When I radioed in 30 miles out, the controller responded, not with the normal, but simply stated: "Delta, November, Alpha, squak ident." I did and he instructed me to descend to 2000 at a heading of 30 degrees, to which I followed. Seconds later, he blurted out about 8 separate instructions to the major airliners on approach. Before anyone could confirm their individual instructions, he came back on and stated: "Sorry guys, that's not going to work. Give me a sec." Yes, we all got in safely with new instructions. These guys in less than one hour were the equivalency of 8 hours of hard labour and they will not put you in a dangerous situation. My hat is off to all of them whether approach, departure or ground.
I admire this guy so much, so much patience, its not easy to deal with so many planes at the same time, let alone all those distracted pilots who dont follow instructions and thus creating a complete mess.. I am an ATC at a small airdrome and I do sometimes get stressed by way fewer planes , but jfk is another level
At first I was thinking this guy's an idiot then he sits silent for a minute and boom gets the entire line moving without incident and my draw basically dropped.
When in flight training I was permitted time in the BFI tower to watch the proceedings - and later knew someone who worked at Seattle Center and had a first class tour of the place. Controllers are superb folks (99.9%) who manage a herd of cats with aplomb. Well done. I enjoyed this clip - it is nice to see the map.
Actually this was probably a regular day for ATC at JFK pre pandemic. Especially during peak times, when all airlines were trying to have a flight leave at 6pm.
Make more of these with some other funny ATC conversations... This kinda visualisation with the captions AND a map is epic and helps when learning to understand ATC language :D...
sure did. the conversations are great to follow but with the view on it ads to the thing, again great job.. hope to see more, allthough it's a hell of a job to make it ;)
Man I'm too ADD for being an air traffic controller... I'll probably have planes crashing into each other, forgetting a plane still in a holding pattern and crashing because he ran out of fuel 😂😂
We don't need your disclaimer, thank you. You've done a helluva job and everyone who knows anything about airplanes understands that shit does, indeed, happen all too often!
wow. ive listened to this convo before & seeing the runway made it so much better. to actually "see" the planes & how the ATC sees them is aaaaaaahmazing! thnk u very much for sharing!
Love the way this is presented. as someone who only flies out of small regional fields it's a helpful learning tool for American procedures and int. airport charts :) subbed
The all time best lines : ATC : Delta 929 just follow the Hawker, (just when he tought he would have clarified the whole mess), and then the Delta 929 says : OK, well the Hawker is 2 planes in front of us... cracks me up every time even after 20 years or so :-)
This controller is hysterical and I love his New York accent! He does an amazing job with professionalism, sarcasm and humor! Does anyone know this guys name? He should have is own TH-cam channel.
Anyone know of similar videos with the visual of planes taxiing? REALLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO & WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE!! Lots of respect to the ATC's out there.
Thank you very much sir! I would do something like this again if I find some ATC recording that has so much chaos in it that it needs to be kinda "splitted" and needs a visualization. Thanks a lot, though! :)
No thank you! Really appreciated the effort to make the video! :-) Been watching (listening) to videos of ATC for the past few days(In bed with the flu) & this really helped understand what was happening visually. I've been using airport diagrams from the FAA website to figure out some of the more complex videos & its a pain.
yeah thats kinda how i ended up doing that video :D was listening to it, in bed, sick :D but got up and worked a bit and as the vid was finished i was okay again :D
Wow, this video is amazing! I've listened to this ATC conversations before but having the visualizations make it so much more clearer. I think you did a great job, are you considering making any more of these?
That 3rd issue was nuts. Props to that guy for managing to clear everything up. those jetblues got him all fumbling them trying to figure out who's where and what.
There's a saying for pilots: "They don't die, they just fly higher". I once overheard a friend (ATC) say: "We don't die either, we just control upper airspace". May your friend rest in peace, Sir.
Sorry for your loss, too. He wasn't a smoker sir? I know you can get cancer virtually in any tissue or even bone area of the body, but that one sounds about as rare as ear cancer. Sad
Mid 90s on Dixie KATL a Delta heavy told ground that Delta has a schedule and ask the Fokker F-28 in front if he could stop riding his brakes. The F-28 has a speed brake mounted on the tail. The Fokker opened the speedbrake/clamshell and made a farting noise. It was dead silence and then then ground could not keep his composure.
Makes me wonder what was being said when my flight arrived early, gate was not yet available, then the plane broke at the gate. We got moved twice on the tarmac before a new gate was assigned.
Thanks for gathering these, adding transcript, and planes on diagram. That was a lot of work. This is so funny because it is real. Nice that the controller plays the hand he is dealt and keeps the planes moving safely.
Extreme Patience and resolve.. ATC Departures And Arrival Got nothing on Ground Control. Ground control guys Got pressure.. At least at Major Airports. Great work ATC professionals. You really Earn your salary..
As he was lining everyone up I was relating to the first day of school as a teacher trying to teach Kindergartners how to line up, where to stand, what to do, what not to do, what to do next, and then wondering where Johnny disappeared to(in a cubby next to the line because he felt that was more important)…let’s try this again. 🤦🏽♀️ 😂
First one is definitively JetBlue's fault. He proceeded to taxi when specifically told to wait for Delta - just because Delta said he was also not supposed to move. If both of you think you are to wait, clarify with ATC! Don't just go. It's not like a faulty red light where the order of cars doesn't have an impact at the next traffic light...
6:25 I love how ATC's so befuddled that he didn't even finish saying "Aitalia" 10:32 x3 JetBlue's "eh??????" when ATC asked for callsign.. wonder how ATC forgot so fast lol The ATC sounds pretty exasperated but still kept his calm.. with a bit of humor.. no Kennedy Steve, but still better than others o-o
Nothing to worry about, except DELAYS! Arrival and departure delays if your flight is any time after 12ish. Nothing unsafe here, just a traffic jam he has problems getting resolved when 10 planes depart at the same time.
Someone 'Lost the Picture' ! I have worked JFK Ground Control when I was an Air Traffic Controller in the 80's. THE most difficult ATC position to learn in the FAA!....
"Aie, you guys should come up here one day." ATCs do great work I gotta say. Those poor souls go pretty much unappreciated by most passengers though I feel...
This is one of my favourite clips of all time, but genuine question (not an ATC!) - why/what is it about JB1069 and 808BL jumping the queue that throws literally everything out of whack? Could they not just continue on as before?
That third one was hilarious. Every time he thinks he's figured out who and where everybody is, another wild Jetblue appears!
Wolfeson28 cool how once he figured out where everyone was it all clicked and he had them moving.
we need ADS-B on the ground
There is ADS-B on the ground, it's called ASDE-X, which is now at JFK. Hurray!
I hope he did finally make it to duty-free in the end.
Jetblue cause ATC become angry
"*sigh* this... you can't.... yah right..." that's the most NY statement I've ever heard (as someone from the area).

"You can't just do... you can't just do that..." *sigh* -- Classic!
whirl tech leeeeeroyyyyyy jeeeeeennnnnkiiiinnnssss
Controller (off-mike): "I'm surrounded by JetBlues!"
I wanted to cheer when he got everyone in a line and on their way. Level completed. Round 2!
+Ashley isAwesome This is by far the best comment I have found on TH-cam! LOL
+Ashley isAwesome I don't want to sound like advertising but there is a very good mobile atc game in which you get to do this kind of stuff.
Lol, too stressful!
Someone should make a TV show outta these. Brilliant/hilarious to watch, and massive respect for ATC, they really do have a tough time :P
+FleeC Thanks for the compliment and even more for watching!
+Octen HBO could, realistically, do that... I am sure it would place well on a Friday evening...
Americas Next Top ATC. 15 Contestants battle it out to see who gets the chance of a lifetime...
replying to a 2 year old comment. you could watch Pushing Tin, great movie about ATC
Octen check out F is for Family
"you guys should really come up here and do this one day." Greatest line ever from controller
The guys cracking up in the background.. "You're unable to do everything on that plane of yours sir.." Priceless.
"Bravo short of victor"
"Yeah.... right"
"..."
"wh- who is bravo short of victor?!!? o.O"
gets me every time...
Haha damnit JetBlue! "You just can't.... you just can't do that!" lol. I love how the ATC guy said that. He sounded like he was in disbelief.
Whenever I think I’m having a bad day I listen to this
"Jesus Jetblue" sums it up pretty well.
At first I was thinking this guy's an idiot then he sits silent for a minute and boom gets the entire line moving without incident and my draw basically dropped.
Seeing #3 clear out like that was absolutely incredible. Massive props to this dude
GND: Follow the Hawker
DAL929: Ok, Well... the hawker is two planes in front of us.
GND: Great.
10:20 and you're where, and you're what, short of who?
JFK is such a disaster
At JFK it's never IDLE and always WILD.
ATC job looks damn tough! Especially in such a busy airport!
I love this pun lol
I see what you did there.
Nice to know that a few of us remember when JFK was once both, "Idle and Wild" (Idlewild). Thanks for the memories!
There aren't even a couple hours in the wee AM hours where it's n ot that busy? Wow
The visual representation works wonderfully! With it and the subtitles, it's much easier to understand the situation!
When in flight training I was permitted time in the BFI tower to watch the proceedings - and later knew someone who worked at Seattle Center and had a first class tour of the place. In aviation, with the meowing... literally a herd of cats
LOL "Air France 011 Heavy if you wanna push in the alleyway that's.... call your ramp for that".
Actually this was probably a regular day for ATC at JFK pre pandemic. Especially during peak times, when all airlines were trying to have a flight leave at 6pm.
If this guy quit his job he could definitely do a gig as Voice Over for Peter Griffin...
You must be from the south. Southerners have a tough time distinguishing NY accents from New England accents.
Make more of these with some other funny ATC conversations... This kinda visualisation with the captions AND a map is epic and helps when learning to understand ATC language :D...
That ground controller really had a BAAAAAAAAAD Day
was listening to this just yesterday but with this on screen it makes a bit more sence, thanks for that!
glad you liked it!
sure did. the conversations are great to follow but with the view on it ads to the thing, again great job.. hope to see more, allthough it's a hell of a job to make it ;)
it is, you're right :)
+Tom Foyle Thank you very much for watching!
i know im late as fuck but i actually like the visual representation. I makes things so much better
wow. ive listened to this convo before & seeing the runway made it so much better. to actually "see" the planes & how the ATC sees them is aaaaaaahmazing!
thnk u very much for sharing!
thank YOU for watching!
“Ya fallowed da embry-AIR?”
JFK has a knack for staffing controllers with a lot of personality
I pissed myself :') I love this controller, the Jetblue 1069 first transmission "guys this takes so much energy" omg love thisss
I appreciate these simple yet helpful visualizations of the situation
Steve Abrams would've cleared this clusterfuck in a heartbeat!
Steve Abraham, but yea!
So would Trump!!
Yup he would lol
Steve that is lol
the clusterfuck would never have happened if steve was the controller
i randomly thought about this the other day YEARS after I saw it last, had to find it again hahaha
Love the way this is presented. as someone who only flies out of small regional fields it's a helpful learning tool for American procedures and int. airport charts :) subbed

This controller knows his shit.

yeah thats kinda how i ended up doing that video :D was listening to it, in bed, sick :D but got up and worked a bit and as the vid was finished i was okay again :D
XD the frustration in the controller's voice is so funny.
The ATC-Ground kinda speaks like Petter Griffin.
Well it is the northeast
Wow, this video is amazing! I've listened to this ATC conversations before but having the visualizations make it so much more clearer. I think you did a great job, are you considering making any more of these?
I love that controller, funny and professional.
That 3rd issue was nuts. Props to that guy for managing to clear everything up. those jetblues got him all fumbling them trying to figure out who's where and what.
Man, talk about a pressure cooker. Good job guys.
Cats everywhere, begin herding NOW!
I had a close friend who was a controller. No joke, he died of vocal chord cancer. Now I see why.
If that is true I am very sorry for your loss! It always hits the best people out there.
His name was Josh and he was a member of my church. I miss him dearly.
There's a saying for pilots: "They don't die, they just fly higher". I once overheard a friend (ATC) say: "We don't die either, we just control upper airspace". May your friend rest in peace, Sir.

@@FSVectors 😭
Actually Jetblue 35 was on Bravo short of Victor not Victor-Alpha, and thats why the controller went angry lol
I was just saying, I wish someone could do a live diagram of everything moving! you should do more! 👏🏾
Great idea and project! It was great to see a visualization of the mess.
jetblue everywhere
Mid 90s on Dixie KATL a Delta heavy told ground that Delta has a schedule and ask the Fokker F-28 in front if he could stop riding his brakes. The F-28 has a speed brake mounted on the tail. That is frustratingly hard to watch. I don't know better other than situational awareness - asking for so many repeats is a big problem.
Great to see where the aircraft are and where they are going.
You can’t just… you can’t just do that… 😢😂
Good job, I worked 20 years doing airfield maintenance so I have a great deal of respect for controllers...
I love the visuals. I can understand this better would love to see more like this.
jetblue screwing up everything ☠️
Oh I absolutelly loved this simulation, could you please do more of them
Makes me wonder what was being said when my flight arrived early, gate was not yet available, then the plane broke at the gate. We got moved twice on the tarmac before a new gate was assigned.
This.....this right here.
This is a nice visualization!!
THANKS for the visualization. I understand a lot better now.
Derryck L
I love this controller.
Hold on - wait ... Yup, okay, yup. Nope. I have no idea what's going on.
Watching this one with the illustrations takes it to another level. A real `reality show' waiting to happen :-)
Thank everyone for almost a 70000!
87.284 :D
Thanks for gathering these, adding transcript, and planes on diagram. That was a lot of work. This is so funny because it is real. Nice that the controller plays the hand he is dealt and keeps the planes moving safely.
You definitely should do more of these!! Loved it!!
200,000 now
200,000 now
Jeez! I could never do that job! I thought automobile traffic was bad! This is crazy! Amazing job the ATC guy did!
Extreme Patience and resolve..
ATC Departures And Arrival Got nothing on Ground Control.
Ground control guys Got pressure..
At least at Major Airports.
Great work ATC professionals. You really Earn your salary..
My favorite controller!!
I hope he never change his job :)
I would have a heart stop after 20 seconds. After 25 I would have a stroke. After 30 secs I would be dead.
Amazingly cool despite a controlled chaos.
Wow! Amazing video! Can't believe what it must be like to be a controller!
8:59, that sing-song response of Delta 929 is so addicting lol
First one is definitively JetBlue's fault. He proceeded to taxi when specifically told to wait for Delta - just because Delta said he was also not supposed to move. If both of you think you are to wait, clarify with ATC! Don't just go. It's not like a faulty red light where the order of cars doesn't have an impact at the next traffic light...
This makes me glad i fly out of a mid size airport in oregon. Just looked at the chart for JFK. Going to have nightmares tonight.
Such a good job thank you! Always have a map on other monitor, this kicks ass! Makes JFK automatic to listen to=)
I actually really enjoyed this. Pity there aren't more...
amazing. great visualization too
6:25 I love how ATC's so befuddled that he didn't even finish saying "Aitalia"
10:32 x3 JetBlue's "eh??????" when ATC asked for callsign.. wonder how ATC forgot so fast lol
The ATC sounds pretty exasperated but still kept his calm.. with a bit of humor.. no Kennedy Steve, but still better than others o-o
Kind of worries me going into JFK...
Nothing to worry about, except DELAYS! Arrival and departure delays if your flight is any time after 12ish. Nothing unsafe here, just a traffic jam he has problems getting resolved when 10 planes depart at the same time.
ATC has their shit together, it's just a very stressful job due to the aircraft load.
JFK has never had a very serious incident, not recently anyway.
***** Depends how you define recent. Remember the Lufthansa and Egypt Air incident in 2011?
Wow these are great!! Please post more like this.
When you can hear him rearranging his plates as he tries to figure what order everyone is in.
6:55 "you're abeam the alitalia" - little typo with "iberia" in there.
Funny transcript renderings here. Thank you veddy maach!
yh iknow i made that mistake...but shit happens :D
10:31 [unreadable] is 'You betcha'
I defiantly don't wanna have to do this job lol.. dam
Honestly that first controller was probably the most chill JFK GND controller. Lucky they got him.
Isn't that the same atc throughout the whole video?
Someone 'Lost the Picture' ! I have worked JFK Ground Control when I was an Air Traffic Controller in the 80's. THE most difficult ATC position to learn in the FAA!....
Listening to this stresses me out
"Aie, you guys should come up here one day." ATCs do great work I gotta say. Those poor souls go pretty much unappreciated by most passengers though I feel...
Definitely thumbs up for entertainment and educational value.
All traffic controllers deserve far better credit and more recognition for their great job in keeping us safe.
keri caye what about the delivery?
Yeezus! Thats the most congested and complex SMC I've ever seen...
I was waiting for the controller to say. You know what grinds my gears?
Excellent job with the visualization, very entertaining to watch, good job.
amazing video, thanks for sharing
This is one of my favourite clips of all time, but genuine question (not an ATC!) - why/what is it about JB1069 and 808BL jumping the queue that throws literally everything out of whack? Could they not just continue on as before?
Bloody good job man. Well done!
+Robert Pearse Thank you Robert!
Thanks for all the effort you put into this.
