In India it's called the Hunter 350. Comes in 2 variant, Retro and Metro. The Retro appealed to me, all black, spoke wheels and ₹20, 000/- less than the Metro. I had to wait 40 days for delivery. That waiting period is now 90 days. I ride a lot on winding mountain roads and the bike has enough power and great handling to make the rides on the ghats a pleasure. Big difference from the 100cc commuters I've been riding these past 20 years. Takes me back to the days of my youth and the old Bullet I had then.

I'm 6.1ft and 80kgs, i find hunter very comfortable mainly because of the riding ergonomics. I was previously riding a taller motorcycle and felt little hesitant about this bike but it seriously surprised me. The rider triangle is so good. It'll suit all type of riders.

It's a fantastic machine... They all are truth be told but given 95% + my driving be around town Hunter makes the most sense.. It's a tad more perky and more suited to flicking around amongst traffic.. Also very comfy over longer trips.. Had a marvelous 350km tour on it.. Don't think I've ever enjoyed a day trip more.

So you can either buy one of those with the mags or if you don't like those at the very least you can can order the mag wheels and switch out the spoke wheels for the classic 350 you want or already have.

First time I had a proper look at the RE. In my young days we had the three major Japanese bike's....also in 50cc so that over 16's could get wheels. BMW and Triumph which we promised ourselves will be bought as soon as we were finished with the Army. The Germans had two makes in 50cc, quite fast compared to the Japanese bikes but they did not last long. Through the years I heard the name RE but actually forgot about it. I agree with you it's a very neat good looking bike, 👌bit of retro in there which is cool. Thanks. 🙃 (and also a 🦴 from my 50kg Boerboel puppy)

Good moto bike , i have seen it 2 months ago.. the difference this moto bike has is , it mostly stands differently from the conventional royal Enfield family members. Lets consider it as an evolution. Btw your explanation is wonderful.. one thing you need to add is the detailing about the technical aspects.. ❤️

    • @tomboyabit
      @tomboyabit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I though so too. Fits the gap in the niche.
I deliberately don’t add much of technical aspects as that can be found on the website and in the vlogs where people specialising in that sort of reviews. I try to give what you can’t get elsewhere. The feeling of it. How is it to ride.
But if technical information is important to add, that’s easy to do. I research it before any bike review ride, to know what to expect from it.

I have few hundred miles on my Hunter here in sunny Indonesia. Few observations from an older rider.
Rear shock springs are too stiff, there is almost no static sag and very little rider sag at my 175 lbs. The front is sprung much better (softer) which makes for an un balanced suspension. The rear end is simply not compliant, this is the biggest issue with the bike. Take a look at the 7:00 min mark, when you sit on the bike the front sags, the rear does not, this proves my point.
I have big hands and find the leavers at the far end of comfortable reach, with the clutch lever adjusted with some extra free play, the clutch is spot on. I wonder how you find the levers in terms of distance from the bars? I would assume, riders with smaller hands would start feeling that the levers are too far.
Clutch is nice and smooth with good feeling pull. The engagement point is however on a short/little clutch lever movement side. I wish that the the cam on the clutch was not as aggressive.
If I just ride without looking at the speedo, it seems I always end up around 50 mph, the bike is super happy and relaxed.
The shock will have to be upgraded, the rest are just few personal observation. It is a great "big" bike, here in Indonesia we ride 150cc mostly.

The Key is deliberately in tad off position. Placing it in the center would have impacted its aesthetic with the main dash.
Yes, visually you want that to be horizontally distributed with the left and right end. But breaking that norm makes the design interesting and shifts it away from the Normal.

I like the look of the engine; with a bit of a cosmetic tweeking , tank, pegs, exhaust, bars, etc. and wire wheels, it could look like a very passable retro Gold Star type bike (now that they're coming back). I hope you can get a shot at riding outside of the city but this was the review I wanted to see. You touched on all the things that make sense to consider for city riding. I would be curious about your thoughts on the Classic 350 in comparison. I hope you can snag one to test soon. Good review. Thank you.

@@tomboyabit I guess it's like how the Interceptor is called (officially) the 'INT' in the USA… but everyone still calls it the Interceptor anyway - Honda have 'stolen' and registered the name in the US… RE were using it in the sixties. Honda have form for using older manufacturers' model names, like Norton's 'Dominator' and Triumph's 'Hurricane' (The old Triumph company came to an agreement with Ford in the fifties over both using 'Thunderbird'… 'Bonneville' could be used by both Triumph and Pontiac cars because it was a place name originally, like 'Capri', which was used by Italian scooter manufacturer Agrati before Ford used it on a car).
I wonder who 'owns' Hunter in the UK?… There was a car called the Hillman Hunter, but Hillman are long gone. Perhaps Ariel (sports cars and bespoke bikes) own the rights to the name along with the 'Ariel' brand (the original Ariel motorcycles used to have a 'Hunter' model back in the fifties and earlier).
I can't realistically imagine anyone calling the bike the 'HNTR' in the real world… It'll be known as the Hunter, whether they like it or not.
