- The Gospel According to Thomas, commonly shortened to the Gospel of Thomas, is a well preserved early Christian, non-canonical sayings-gospel which many scholars believe provides insight into the oral gospel traditions. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945, in one of a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. The Gospel of Thomas was found among a collection of fifty-two writings that included, in addition to an excerpt from Plato's Republic, gospels claiming to have been written by Jesus' disciple Philip. Scholars have speculated that the works were buried in response to a letter from Bishop Athanasius who for the first time declared a strict canon of Christian scripture.

I am sorry, but I have read the four synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In comparison, the Gospel of Thomas, even NOT in comparison, sounds like a SNL script mocking the Lord Jesus.

Man, I desparately needed this during my depression. Crazy to know that it was discovered in 1945 Egypt, I think this should be in the Bible. After all, Thomas was one of the 12 Apostoles. He died in 72 AD, and he wrote this most likely in 60 AD.

Hey guys, I have felt exactly how this Gospel says. For just a moment in my life, the whole life felt like I was sorrounded by all loving presence, I had absolute no-fear and even after people laughed at me, I didn't feel anything. i have had quite a few different near death experiences. i have had my soul start being pulled out of my body but in yhwhs mercy he saved me from all my troubles.i am not scared of where igo when i die but i do not lukethe proccess of dying. i had the most intense pain worst feeling of doom and my body losing all supportand its no fun. the first nde i had were not my soul leaving body but my predicaments i found myself in and when i had 2 choices i prayed and 10 seconds later i was delivered from being murdered . he is awesome and patient to us and i know his great live for us. there is no reason to fear death especially for followers of yeshua.

I wouldn't doubt if these were the real Jesus words and were hidden from most religious people who believe strongly solely in the canonical biblical books of the west. These words are a breath of fresh air. They fill me with joy and happiness. They calm me and make me wonder. I can listen to this on replay over and over and always come away with new insight. Having been born raised and educated as a Catholic, I cannot help but be amazed by the Gospel of Thomas. The logia St. Thomas have written uttered by Jesus is so real and I feel the real truth is revealed. Unfortunately, I csnnot avoid having doubts to some of the teachings of the Catholic faith. I don't know if I am the person who feels this way.

I wonder why the different churches reject the gospel of Thomas, if anything, I believe this gospel will reinforce the truth teachings of Jesus. I grow up Catholic but now I'm practicing spirituality witch now makes more sense to me, it's not about the great temples, it's about getting to know our truth self and caring for those around us. I'm blessed by my actions and condemn by them too.
God doesn't want you attending the established Church. He is spiritually burning it down, to prepare the way for the coming heavenly Church. This is the true Church he has desired for all along. That was my first hearing of this Gospel. Did you know that this was the prevalent Gospel of the first century church? Also that Mark was called the unknown Gospel. John is the only Gospel written by an eye witness to the Savior, which is a reason I really love the Gospel of John, it's also the only one of the four not to use a parable! This Thomas has me a bit confused in areas, some feels dead on to our Lord's teachings while other portions seem unfinished and almost contradictory. I know as in all Holy inspired scripture it's a living force, meaning it can have different meanings at different points of ones walk, but some of it felt so dark, and almost hopeless. I have struggled my whole life with my perception of Christ while in the flesh. At first I pictured him as the Jesus of Nazareth movie, down cast, saddened, almost starving and dirty in appearance. Then I went with the handsome, witty, vibrant Christ, and then the mosty average, human, laughing and dancing at weddings, maybe even with a good sense of humor. Now I'm back to the man of sorrow image. In truth we can paint all of these images from scripture, so maybe he was simply a combination of it all as most are, or maybe it was a progressive from a typical guy who enjoyed life, to the down cast, with tons of cosmic pressure to drink the cup given? Who knows, I'm just glad I received his eternal work on that awful cross, that stamped my name in the book of life. Thank you Christ Jesus.

Many sayings resemble passages of the Bhagavad Gita or sutras of the Buddah. Many metaphors refer to Consciousness as "fire" and "light". The "dead" world that Jesus is talking about is Maya, illusion. Many references to the thought processes ( the small fish is bad thinking ) etc. These sayings are far more important than the Dead Sea Scrolls, they are a real Gem.

Many claim to walk in his light, yet they have no light.
