I was really struggling with putting the new belt on until I saw your method of starting from the bottom and rotating both clutches rather than just the secondary. After doing this way, piece of cake. Many thanks.

Agreed!! I had already started from the top... and had the belt about half way on... started rotating the front clutch and it started pulling it on.. As he said still not easy.. but it was easier...

Great video - got my Ranger 700 belt changed in less than an hour, no shop fees or mechanic needed. Thanks PRC!

Thank you ! That explicitly shows the struggle I'm having. Think your going to destroy the belt when your doing it .

Sorry to comment on an old post, but my Ranger is old too :) Have a 2004 Ranger 500 4x4. I am having problems with belt slippage, so got a new belt, and installed it this weekend. Only thing is, it's WAY different than your video. My belt is not even close to being as tight as yours. It slips on & off the secondary with perhaps 2 fingers worth of pressure, and barely any need to roll the secondary. When sitting idle with the engine off, there is probably 4-5" of belt play between the primary & secondary. I verified the correct belt several times, cuz it just doesnt seem right. Anyway, great video, just not the same situation I have.

You're able to seperate the secondary by hand, just push on the back plate with one hand, and turn the plate with the other. Once you get the sheaves apart you're able to drop the belt to the center (so it holds the sheaves apart for you) and you can pull the belt off the bottom first, then make yours way around. That won't stretch the belt, where as if you force it over like you did, it will stretch it, and reduce the life of the belt. Other than that, it's a very helpful video.

Thanks for posting, I was wondering what would be involved in changing the belt on my 500 ranger if I needed to. I should be good for a while I only have about 35 hours on it so far.

great video, this is the only one i have seen that has any valid meaning...thank you for the posting....I do have some questions for you...
1 you stated 05 to 08. What yr is urs? I have a 12 and want to know if the same?
2 How many miles/hrs did you hav on ur belt?
3 on my maintenance schedule given to me by polaris there is a drive belt & clutch belt reference for inspecting & adjustment. So my question is how do I perform an "adjustment"? you did the clutch, what about a drive belt?
    thx

Great video! I guess my 2010 800 ranger must be different than that one. On mine, the belt cover seems to be much lower in the frame? I couldn't get the cover free and out of the way like you did in your video, my belt was fine so I didn't bother fighting with it. Any suggestions for next time?
    Thanks

I had to take out the battery box and then I had enough space to take the clutch cover out.

I noticed that too. I have a 2008 Ranger XP with the non-adjustable sheave. I am have great difficulty getting a new belt on. I have a strap wrench with a piece of conduit to create some leverage to help turn the secondary sheave. I hope this helps. I'm going to try this Saturday.

Be great if you mention the year or model of the ranger in the title... Or even Spelled Polaris correctly.
