I've had a Polaris side by side since 2008 (of course various models) and the information Polaris has provided on belt management in this video is the most helpful thing Polaris has done for their customers! Most of these things I picked up on the rzr forum in the early years of ownership and hold true today. And to those thinking that it is impossible to have a belt look like that after a few thousand miles, it is not. Belt management is how that is achieved. Oh....and I have never install one of those belt temp gauges either! The other thing not mentioned here is blowing out the clutches regularly after a ride. I blow mine out with compressed air after every ride and pull the clutches for inspection1/year.
Hey Polaris, maybe make a video on towing a trailer with a load using an ATV and SXS. I use my Sportsman 500 mostly for firewood cutting and I use a 4x6ft trailer to haul it out of the forest. When the trailer is empty I use 2hi to get me to the cutting site fast, and when hauling out a load I'll be in 2low and never go faster than 15mph. My trailer when its loaded will be right around a 1000lbs when the wood is green. I have never worn out a belt using my machine and also use it for plowing snow in winter, again in 4low and never faster than 15mph.
Best thing I did on my XP1000, was a razorback IR belt temperature gauge. I run dunes with paddles and if I see a spike above normal, I can back off and cool things down. One thing you didn't mention is the importance of clutch alignment! Hard hits can move the transmission in regards to the engine, and then belts will keep blowing.
Not sure if it was mentioned, make sure the primary and secondary clutches are aligned. On the Pro XP the secondary clutch has shims to adjust alignment, makes it very easy.
Great tips. Im still on my original belt in my 04 700 Sportsman 😂. Dont use it much tho. Got over 1000 miles on my 21 Ranger 570 fullsize used for hauling and snow plowing on 29.5”s. Looking after your belt is crucial. Thanks for the tips 😊
On your chart I had the second image and I didn’t know what it was, I got line used and was doing that since I got it, was soooo bad that I thought was the main shaft bearing broke, it would jerk hard taking off over time gave me a code for miss fire but only would do it if I hold the gas pedal for long (1 full min) at more then 3800 rpm I changed fuel pump, fuel injectors, and spark plugs and kept doing the same, so I was just using it going pressing gas and let go pressing gas and let go so it wouldn’t pick up the code again until my belt actually broke off last trip installed new belt, no more jerking at take off no more weird noises no more codes I can go full throttle as much as I want, something sooooo simple I didn’t know could give u so many problems
Now I have to go out and see if the secondary on my 2022 General xp4 has that threaded spot for the tool to spread the clutch when removing/installing the belt. Didn’t know that existed…LOL.
Excellent video but as a newbie Im trying to learn alot of this information in a short period of time. So in the CVT belt driven transmission does the belt spin on the primary and secondary clutches ONLY when you step on the accelerator pedal? Thats the major point I was able to learn which would explain why you should let your machine idle for a few minutes to dissipate the heat on the belt and clutches. Hopefully my assumption is correct.
The low throttle thing is the reason we got a Pioneer 700 for the farm, specifically because of the torque converter automatic. My dad spends his whole day spraying or whatever, just at walking speed or below, stopping and starting, in the hills. Also, following the tractor through the woods, clearing trails.
Another Polaris mechanic said to NOT idle because the belt is just sitting loose on the pulley as the engine spins. I think most of these “never” scenarios, are based more in opinion than research.
Dear Sir, I am mostly blind. I have a Poaris Trail 900 and take it to Walmart and to the fuel station. It gets sporty. My problem is that the unit makes a lot of noise at slow speeds which I need. I do not care about money... What do I do?
My launch control wasn't working properly and hourglassed a new belt. is there any way to repair it? It slightly chatters on acceleration but not bad. If I take off quickly I don't feel it at all.
I have a 2015 RZR 1000 two seater I have no shims in my secondary clutch and right now my secondary clutch has to come out a little bit because my main clutch the belt is riding on the inner wall of the clutch so I need to bring out my secondary a little bit Will those shims work

This was great. Just got a buggy, and I'm proactively getting as much knowledge as I can to be prepared for my first failure
Great info, especially breaking in your spare belt before you need it.
Thank you for smoking a belt in the name of science, although it did hurt to watch lol
Thank you for the very informative video I will operate my 23 570 differently now safe n happy trails bud

I
3 years and 2,700 miles on my stock yamaha belt still have 7 years left of belt warranty on my rmax 😂.
Yah. Yamahas have wet clutches so it’s a completely different ball game. Replacing the wet clutch isn’t fun though, a lot easier to change a belt.
The embarrassing part is you drive an RMax though. 😂 Kidding.

I need to do that to my 2016 ranger… I hope it has that tool…
2018 570 ranger full-size still on stock belt 😊
Good to know, that’s why I bought a Yamaha.
But I do have a belt drive machine also.
The Speed car next? Probably better compare the xp or turbo r at most. Thought this video was great.
When I advise new drivers, I say go no go. Don't hesitate or hold power without moving.

Taking notes, getting my 24 Ranger Crew 1000 base this week 😃
great to hear! Enjoy your new unit when you get it😎
Same geee

Still on my stock belt 3 yrs now!👌🏽
Very good info on belt etiquette.
Great video
How about letting the machine idle while in gear. Like for a short time when stopping on the trail to talk. will that cause hour glassing?
Excellent video!

When you are in the dunes running in all wheel drive, are you in low or high range?
Over 2800 miles on my pro xp and still stock belt
Do you get the same belt system on the kinetic?
5200 miles on my 2021 original stock belt. Belt looks good but gonna change it anyway and keep the old belt for a spare.
Should you be in low up to 40 MPH on a pro xp in sand dunes
or better in high above 25?
Whats a good price to pay for a offbrand polaris general belt?
Hi
What would be considered as high speed for extended times on the 2024 XP RZR? What speed and how much time?
What year is that pro xp? The secondary looks different
Never Broke or lost a belt on my 19 rzr xpt4 5-1/2yrs of ownership. Traded last week for a 2024 rzr turbo r premium hood stuff
Thanks!

👍🏻good info
pressure washing video
BUt but the customers and backyard mechanics know way more than Polaris engineering. (SARCASM)
No way this belt has 3000 miles lol...
My pro r is at 800 miles stock belt still looks new
@@nitostowing5782 when my belt has 800 miles it is already exploded
I had 3500 miles on my original belt
How Come The Guys That RACE HAVE THEM CRYO-TECH ??????? No Breakin NEEDED ?????
I got 5500km out of my stock belt on my old rzr xp 900
Buy a Yamaha!!
Problem solved
You misspelled HONDA! BUT POLARIS HAS BEEN GOOD
It is pronounced like the knife used in prison.
Shive. Just ask a crane operator, like me.
Let’s go Brandon make sure you vote or you will be driving electric toys.
Another way to make your belt last longer is stop driving it like you stole it, don't be a a*s hole!
