I have the MC101 and I have produced full synthwave songs on it. There are some vapor/synthwave/retro sound packs for the mc101, too. When I want to make synthwave, I just take the mc101.
Damn this week I’ve been searching synthwave videos on the 101 wondering how well it’d work with my setup and just bought one after watching this one lol thank u for this
Excellent jam I loved it!! I listened to lots of grooveboxes then when I heard the sounds from the Roland that was it for me, sounds so good for the money!
"some of you are old" --- HEY! I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK! LOL! Roland does do a great job of recreate their old gold in Zen Core -- it really does sound a lot like a Juno other classic Roland synth. Side by side, I could probably tell that there's a difference, but I /wouldn't/ be able to tell you which was Zen Core vs. original.
Did not disappoint! Great work again. You mention how good the 101s synth engine is... I have to agree. Most of my classic synth sounds come from my Access Virus , yet I’ve been moving my songs over to a Mc101/Tr6S setup for playing DAWless live sets and the 101 is filling in for it surprisingly well. The Tb303 sounds from Roland aren’t brilliant but there is a great download pack out there by one user that more than makes up for it. I’ve also been using the multiple drum/sample trigger trick to increase the layers ans handle the more fx processed sounds from the original songs, so thank you for the original pointer on that.
When you talk about modifying patches, I wonder how this works for starting with an init patch? These are great sounds and great for songwriting, but I feel like I'm often primarily a sound designer, and love to build from an init patch. I guess I have other synths...but still...
You are so knowledgeable with the mc101 I just gotta ask, is there any way to move or shift a single note left or right in the sequencer in a tone track? If I play something quantized and the note timing is slightly off, I usually have to copy the note, paste it in the right step, then delete the original note, but that takes a lot of shortcuts (select step, shift copy, select new step shift copy again, select old step, shift + project + old step every time). Often is just faster to re record the whole sequence! I know you can shift an entire sequence left it right with a shortcut, but is there no way to do it for a single note?? Thanks ahead, I can't tell you how hard it is to find this info, I've been googling like crazy lately, and the digital manual is dubious...
@@GabeMillerMusic probably a wise move as far as demand for channel content goes. With MPC one being a more affordable device naturally its in more peoples hands so likely more of an audience for video content. Without saying too much, Force's next update is going to be huge. The beta testers have just got access to it, and I can safely say its going to place Force back at the top of a lot of peoples lists. Akai have really outdone themselves. Its likely the MPC's will share some of these features but certainly not all.
@@GabeMillerMusic I am not sure if the Force is a daw or the greatest groovebox of all time but it is very very deep I don't think anyone can know everything about the Force. , I was always intrigued by the circuit but ended up with the Force. (couldn't get excited about the no labeled knobs on the OG circuit). Certainly would love to see what you would do with one.
@Lucifer I know as much as anyone else who has the beta for the upcoming firmware, both for Force and MPC. There's a beta program anyone can apply for, but unfortunately I can't talk about the features. Thats part of the NDA, and only fair to Akai to stick to it. All I can say is theres a lot in it and people are going to be very happy.
Hey Gabe! Your videos are excellent and have been a huge help to me. Do you know where I can get the files that came on the MC-101 SD card from the factory??? I deleted those files on mine, expecting to keep it, but, then decided to return it and buy a 707. I want to be able to return it with the original files on the card. Can you help me out?
@@GabeMillerMusic Thanks so much for your reply. A Facebook user referred me to the place on Roland's website where they can be downloaded. I just didn't scroll down far enough to see it the first 8 times I searched for it. UGH! LOL
They're both fantastic, but have different strengths when it comes to the features. It might be worth checking out my comparison video between the two if you haven't already
@@GabeMillerMusic Drooling all over to see you on this one, Gabe! (receiving my Polybrute tomorrow (finally), so postponing ordering VerseLab for some time, for not to die of happiness LOL quite certain on MV1 as accompanying groovebox with 6 tracks + 16 ext synth recordings. I do not sing (so world is saved :) , but interested on how MV1 drives the external synth and such standalone work flow.
@@GabeMillerMusic then Ill keep looking, its quite a few to browse thru. Your videos convinced me to.get the 101, after owning a 303 and 505 in the previous millennium😂

Ok you have just convinced me to purchase this
Sounds so great, I think the MC101 would be worth buying even as a sound module for zencore. Roland is so good for synthwave

Great sounding songs. I'm waiting on used mc707 to arrive so I can hook it up to Mx1 and do synthwave.
"Some of yall are old" :)
Cool tune man.
Amazing tutorial! I love the minimalistic approach :) Solid sounds tho
Lovely Jam!
You have a very strong command of this device. Would love to see how you get on with the 707. Great vids!
Been looking forward to this :)

I never feel like I "get" a synth unless I can start from init and make something nice

I like this format of genre+box solution. Can you suggest the box for deep house? Or even release a such video 🙂
Does it sync with a keyboard chords? If I play on a keyboard connected to it via Midi will it play the chords I am playing on the keyboard?
Gabe I can't stress enough, look info the Akai Force. Something pretty big is coming. Thats all I can say 😉
It's on my list, although I'd probably put the MPC One ahead of the Force in terms of Akai stuff for me to try.

This sounds great. You can 100% sell the MC101 with this track. Not even on the 2nd one yet. Lol

I've not run into that, but you might be able to reset the device to factory settings. That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm new to this , can you borrow individual clips from the presets for your own pattern, mix n match?
Really hard to decide between this and a Circuit.

You need both, they are just a perfect combination for Synthwave ;-)

Stay tuned for next week...

Thanks! These are built in patches if I recall correctly.
